Beer Bad

The Good;
Okay there is some, Willow's Jerry Springer style confession (anyone ever read the hilarious Buffy Springer Show fanfic? Buffyspringer, a Buffy: The Vampire Slayer fanfic - FanFiction.Net). Much of the Xander the bartender stuff is funny. Giles describing caveBuffy as walking with a 'sideways limp'. Willow's confrontation with Parker. Buffy's great dream sequence (is that chocolate chip cookie dough fudge he's holding?)
The Bad;
Everything else, possibly the worst Buffy episode ever?

Best line;
Xander; "Nothing can defeat, THE PENIS!" (how true!)
Wheldon Cliches;

Character death;
Nope, no one dies at all
Shot;
Tied up;
Knocked out;
Yep, Willow, Xander (and Parker)
Women good/men bad;
The first thing the cavemen do is find a pair of pretty girls and drag them back to their 'cave'. Buffy's mooning after Parker does her no favours, he's treated her badly so she still wants him? When it comes to Parker and Buffy I always wonder what if the roles were reversed, if Buffy dumped Parker and then when she changes her mind and tries to apologise he knocks her out? What would we think then? And in fairness Parker does go to help Willow when the cavemen attack.
Jeez!;
Kinky dinky;
Is it just me or does anyone else deep down want Parker to succeed in 'jumping Willow's bones'? And then mid-coitus she should turn the tables on him American Pie style. "Say my name bitch!". Also Willow seems to think that Buffy had group sex with the 4 students, love the way her mind works! Buffy calls herself a slut, Veruca thinks Willow is a groupie.
Calling Captain Subtext;
Willow tells Parker she's 'Tired of you men and your manliness'. CaveBuffy thinks Xander smells nice
Guantanamo Bay;
Parker tries to apologise to Buffy so she bashes him over the head with a lump of wood
Scoobies to the ER;
Where's Dawn?
Apparently Joyce always said beer was evil which is weird when you see teenage Joyce in Band Candy and considering she wanted Buffy to be at a college with boys and keg parties?
Questions and observations;
Quite possibly the worst ever episode of Buffy although rewatching it is does have some quite good humour in it and SMG gives a tremendous performance as Cavegirl Buffy. Feels like an ep of Charmed. Again, not sure about Parker, he doesn't actually do anything wrong, he just doesn't want a relationship with her as he explains to Willow (in many ways he reminds me of Barney from 'How I Met Your Mother'). Willow compares Veruca to Faith (not a compliment in her book) Oz's growing attraction to her is clear to see.
Marks out of 10; 4/10

Not quite, there's another episode later on that's pretty bad.

I usually skip this one. I give it 3/10.

I'm not saying it's only you but it's definitely not me.

Not the greatest episode no but I don't think it's nearly as bad a it's reputation. I can never skip this episode. Love cave Buffy way too much for that.

No, it's not bad for me. I watched this episode more than some of S4. I love the Cave Buffy and how she hit Parker(twice 😀).

And Willow wouldn't ever do that with Parker, IMO. But I was worried that Buffy would got jumped by those guys.

Eh. If an episode if entertaining, I enjoy it -- same goes for this episode. I had my laughs, but the general plot was blah. Caveman Buffy was cute in a strange, unintelligent and prehistoric way.

One of the weirder episodes, funny in places but I've seen worse in the shows. Funny thing is I always thought that too much beer did that anyway!

Again, what if buffy had broken up with Parker and when she tried to apologise he hits her? I know it's sexist, Xena used to bash Joxer around all the time and I was ok with it but when they switched bodies and Xena-as-Joxer hits Joxer-as-Xena I was outraged

Oh, I know what you're saying.

There's no real logical reason for it.

Although, Whedon wouldn't get as much feminist love if it were the other way around!

This is actually one of the episodes that sticks out in my head. Not one of my fav 5 or anything but Cave Buffy is so cute (not looks, but way of speaking). It was very funny, not one of the best plots, but in a bland season 4 it's one of my favs.

I didn't love this episode. I was VERY glad Willow didn't sleep with Parker! Yuck. I was so happy she saw through his crap. Even if she hadn't, she wouldn't have done that to Buffy.

For some reason I don't get up in arms when Buffy gets hit, probably because she's stronger than all the men already. It took some getting used to but by the time she and Spike were using each other as punching bags (among other things) I was totally used to it. But if Willow, for example, were to get punched, it would be totally shocking and awful. I totally see the point, about liking her hitting Parker being kind of sexist. But I couldn't help but be happy about it; he so deserved it.

I replayed the last scene for 5+ times when I watched this episode last summer and my mom went "What's wrong with you!". She doesn't know how much Parker deserved it. 😀

I actually thought this episode was pretty funny. Buffy on the chair was too hilarious for words.

Jep and this was pretty funny too:

I'm probably one of the few people who actually kinda liked it. Only the story didn't make any sense to me. But it was a funny ep.

lol, the Bored icon made my day. :)
I kind of liked this episode, I mean, it was funny with the whole 'cave girl' thing going on with Buffy and I was amused when she hit Parker over the head. Though i'm not the biggest fan of season 4, this episode has to be the best one of the season...For me anyway.

I, too, am in that minority. I do think the episode is a little...Weird? But, at the same time it's one of my favourite season four episodes. Whereas the storyline of the beer turning the consumers into cavemen is a little odd, I still think the episode is hilarious. There are so many funny scences with cave-Buffy.

However, despite the humor of the episode, I really dislike Parker; especially the way he comes onto Willow. I have to agree, in the fact that Buffy hitting him over the head at the end was just epic. 😉

I really laughed! I just watched it!

Congratulations to Sarah! Really great performance!
"Buffy strong" "Buffy get beer" haha! Great!!! and she hit Parker with that wood! Go CaveSlayer!!!🙂 And Buffy turning around with that chair!!!and the tv!"Want people" hahahaha!!!LMAO!:lmao::lmao::lmao:

I actually really liked this episode. *finally* Buffy got over Parker. I'd have no problem with Parker, except that he led Buffy to believe he did want something more. His tone, his words, his body language all pointed to his being interested in a relationship. I found it majorly satisfying to have her hit him over the head and it lead to Buffy going back to being strong and not Parker-crazed.

I liked Kal Penn turning up as one of the smart-guys-tuned-cavemen... he was in an episode of Angel, too, as a different character, but he dies then, I think. I loved him on House and in Harold and Kumar.

Buffy as beer-obsessed cave lady was awesome. "Beer foamy..."

All in all, it was a pretty light-hearted episode that served the purpose of getting Buffy back on track, introducing Riley's good-guy manners, and showing the rising tension in the Oz/Veruca/Willow triangle. Willow asking Parker "How gullible do you think I am?" was great, esp. since his face was priceless. BUSTED!

agreed!
I actually liked it! I think Buffy is really funny as 'cavegirl'. It's light-hearted even with the final scene. The opener with Buffy dreaming about Parker offering her flowers and chocolates(?) :lmao::lmao::lmao: Gotta love the cheesy music!

I liked cavegirl Buffy and Xander scenes in this too. 'Beer is bad, bad bad beer!', lol.

I didn't really expect Buffy to hit Parker at the end, but she was still cavegirl so she didn't hold back what she felt like doing =P

Outside of the funny moments though, the story didn't really feel like anything worth showing. Sure they introduce Veruca a bit more to us but they didn't show much about it.
