Um, maybe Spike was just boasting/exaggerating that the 'last slayer i killed begged for her life', y'know, like guys do, just to intimidate Buffy. I wouldn't put too much emphasis on every single thing thats said.
This is a vampire who can clearly still feel emotional pain and it is perfectly seen in this episode, i struggle how anyone could not feel sorry for Spike when Buffy says "Your beneath me". In a way it reminds me of "I'am Sorry William". It has a similar effect on Spike. In "Fool for Love" it leaves him dejected and the same happens "As you were" as he knows its finally over....
...Both James and SMG deliver awesome performances in this episode, one of the best episodes in the show's history and that's high praise indeed.
I wonder about the "you're beneath me" quote. There is an episode in season 7 called "Beneath You". Now, I know it refers to the monster in this episode, which moves beneath the ground. But does it have anything to do with what Buffy/Cecily said to Spike, because in this s7 episode Spike can also be beneath.... something or someone, emotionally or physically? Do you think it's all conected?
Oh, and James? Amazing actor, I'm so in awe. And the last scene is one of the best ever! I mean, Buffy had just hurt his feelings so badly, he went there to kill her... but he can't. Do you assume he would have killed her if she wasn't teary? I think not.
And I don't think Spike could have killed Buffy. I think even if she wasn't crying, he'd pull the gun up and then realize what he was about to do, put the gun down and run away.
About that, come to think about it, wouldn't it be sort of like what could happen in "Seein Red?" If Buffy hadn't pushed him away, he would have continued until he'd realize what he's doing and run away? Theoretically of course.
Define if she hadn't pushed him away. If she hadn't kicked him across the room but kept resisting, I think he would have realized what he was doing and run away. If she hadn't kicked him across the room and stopped resiting, it would have been like the rest of Spuffy season 6.
yes. He would have stopped. If she had kept struggling and saying no and crying, I think he would have realized what he was doing and stopped.Say if Buffy, although resisting (not physically), couldn't do anything for some reason (for example if she wasn't a slayer, or too hurt to even move...), and Spike had a "fair chance", and was "going for it", he would have stopped after realizing what he's doing.

Username said:I must be in minority on this but i think this episode is the most boring one in entire show. I´m always dreading watching this whenever I do a rewatch of the show, my heart won't allow me to skip any episodes so I have to watch it, though I would even rather watch an Ingmar Bergman film than this.. It just has too much Spike, I like Spike in small doses but here he comes off so ridiculous.
The only thing I do like is the beginning before all the boring flashbacks starts, Dawn covering up for Buffy was awesome
🙄
Definitely one of the top five episodes in the entire run. There's a lot going on in this episode; so it might go over some peoples heads. Don't fret though; you can always watch something slow like Band Candy. Might be a more appropriate pace for some people.
Yes thats why I don't like this episode, I´m just to dumb for it... prick
🙁
It's okay, knowing you have a problem is the first step to getting help.
And I'd only be a pr*ck if I went into a thread I had no real interest in; just to dump all over a fictional character.
What are you doing when you rag on this episode? You're singling out Spuffies to give them a hard time so don't pretend like you're a victim.
I don't mind you expressing your opinion; but when it's a blatant way to irk Spike and Spuffy fans; I'm firmly inclined to call bullsh*t.
