No offence but not sure if Buffy is that suitable for children. Did you let your 5 year old watch Smashed?

i think i was 7 when buffy first came out and i watched. god that was so long ago... im 21 now. lol

Not that it's anyone else's business, but they've seen most of the first 4 seasons, part of season 5, the first few episodes of season 6 (the musical is their favorite) and the last few. They love Dark Willow. They're not allowed to see the middle of season 6, from Smashed through Seeing Red. I was pretty much raised on horror movies, and they love stuff other kids might find scary. Maybe it's genetic. I think there are many things about Buffy that make her a really fantastic role model. They're growing up (not just from watching Buffy, but in part) recognizing that women are strong, and we don't need men to rescue us either physically or emotionally. From seeing Tara and Willow together, they've seen that love doesn't have to be heterosexual to be "right." The value of friendship and family, and also that slaying vampires can be fun 😉 I'm not at all conflicted about letting them watch it. They have a good grasp on fantasy v. reality. They do understand that it's not real.
 
Not on the top of my list but in the top 5. It is an excellent episode and could be scarey at times. I thought the idea of having a practically silent movie effect good and it is one those episodes that you have to actually watch and not have on in the background.
 
I rewatched this episode with commentary from Joss yesterday. 🙂 In the victim-POV scene where the Gentlemen take their first heart from the college boy in the dorms came from a dream Joss had, with the monster floating to his bed.

Creepy.
 
I finally saw it. What can I say? Joss is a genius. Really.

Every single actor and actress did their best. Amazing. They proved that acting skills and awesome stories can exist without talking.

Interesting appearance of Tara. Spike is great and hilarious while he still has his voice. "Xandeeer" hahahaha!

Buffy and Riley working together! I really liked that!

And of course the scene in the amphitheater...ahahahahaha!!! poor Buffy! I really love her and her clumsiness!
 
Never knew about Andy Hallett in the this ep, rest his soul. Will watch it again right away.

In all my love of the 'verse I often lose sight of the fact that it is horror. This episode is truly disturbing. Like a real nightmare, you cannot speak. I love the scene of downtown Sunnydale and the way people are reacting.

Wow i didn't know about Andy Hallet in this either.
My favorite part is when Anya is sleeping on the couch and Spike has just drank his blood. Then Xander walks in to see Spike by Anya with his vamp face. Its hilarious how Xander goes after Spike

Really great episode! What's great is you can still read most of what the characters are trying to say on their lips(and so do they) =P

The scene when Xander wake up is hilarious HAHAHAHA! He goes on to blame Spike and then try to call not even thinking he won't be able to talk:lmao::lmao: Then Spike just look at him like he's saying 'what an idiot'.

Then you got the scene with Walsh, Riley and Forestt with the sign stating 'In case of emergency, use stairwell' :lmao:

It's really great how EVERYONE, just not Buffy and friends are affected and how some of them go around it. You can really feel the anxiety from everyone.

The lecture hall scene was hilarious, like Giles putting the paper the wrong side and realizing it lol!

The final in the clocktower was awesome. From the moment Riley and Buffy saw each other to his stunned expression when he saw what Buffy could do. Really great action scene with some humorous touches ending with the princess scream :happy53:
 
I've been looking, but I still can't find Andy.
The girl's rhyme gives me the creepies! Also, the gentlemen? Totally one of the scarier monsters on the show.

Beautiful introduction to Tara. She and Willow are just wonderful together. The "Wicca group" made me giggle. Willow was so annoyed at it. Tara was funny when she was trying to "hate" on the group and was like, "I think if they ever actually saw a witch, they'd... run the other way." Complete with stutter. It's so interesting to see how she grows!

I think Andy is one of the gentlemen.
I just watched this episode for the first time today - in my opinion it's by far the creepiest episode up to this point. Its something about the gentlemen.. I think it's their stillness that creeps me out, the way that they move so slowly and deliberately - it's so much scarier than something running flat out at you. And not forgetting those smiles! Any kind of fixed expression is somewhat unnerving but they've got 'eery' down to a tee.

Like many of you before me have said, the silence is the main part of the fear. It's quite a nightmare situation. But I loved the funny ways they showed people dealing with it, like Giles explaining the plan with the projecter and the part when Buffy and Willow are walking through the town and they see a guy selling whiteboards (there's always someone who can make a buck out of a bad situation) - the balance of humour and edge of your seat creepiness is what makes this episode so great.

Excellently done - I'd give it 10 out of 10 anyday.
 
Just skimming through this and I think someone said the 1st guy who got his heart cut out deserved it?! :eek2: Pretty harsh oh a random stranger aren't we? lol I re-watched this last night with my boyfriend and for a second he thought that guy was Parker and was gonna cheer but realized it wasn't. Now that would have been someone deserving of it. 😉 hehe.

I love this episode. It's one my non-Buffy friends will actually watch with me 'cuz it's so good. My only question about the episode is WHY do the Gentlemen need the hearts? It may not be that important but I've always wondered and it's always bugged me that it's not mentioned.:confused2:
 
the best episode of tv ever made in tv history! this episode changed my life. I used to be a very quiet girl, until I saw this lol I was scared to death by those gentlemen. and that song...that damned song....*shudders*

oh and I also love when they have their meeting and giles is used picture slideshows and Buffy was trying to motion staking, and they were all like 😵 and she had to take mr pointy out of her bag to get her point across lmao!

great episode, scary, but great

On its own merits, definitely one of the best episodes of the series, probably in my top 5.

However, in retrospect, it did set up one element I didn't enjoy - The Willow/Tara relationship.

Looking back now I think this episode is overrated. I say this because why this is the only episode that was nominated for an Emmy is beyond me. I just think this series had episodes that tops this IMO.
I will say the gentlemen are creepy I enjoy this episode is it my favorite though.

I would have to agree. It was something about they're creeepy confidence and permanent deadly smiles that just made me shiver. They had a weird grace....floating silently with only one intention. To kill you. Getting my heart cut out is NOT a way I would want to die!:eek2:

and not to mention the fact that you won't be able to call out for help. THAT to me is the creepiest thing about that episode(apart from the actual gentlemen). If I'm dying, I want to be able to at least say a couple of curse words and threats to my killer lol
