LIFE SERIAL

The Good;
Buffy in the workplace, funny...

The Bad;
... but ultimately a bit depressing

Best line;
Spike; "C'mon, someones got to stake me"

Women good/men bad;
The guys on Xander's building site are pretty sexist towards 'Little Britney' even though she saved their lives.

Jeez!;
Shouldn't Buffy make sure she rescues all the kittens?

Kinky dinky;
About the weirdest fanfic I ever read had Buffy having sex with the mummy hand. In the follow up story she lures it out of her using a magic charm then smashes it to atoms with her troll hammer (although surely all she needed to do was go upstairs and start the cycle again?). Buffy thinks that the candle buyers' girl isn't going to sleep with him whatever scent he chooses. Anya pictures HERSELF naked when selling, talk about 'sales figures' (the corset top Buffy wears to university would certainly do the trick! And check out the stripper heels she crushes Giles' specs with). Andrew thinks that Scully from the X-files 'Wants him so bad' and envies Jonathon that Buffy 'touched him'. The Nerds find free porn at the end. Lots of gags about Jonathon's 'magic bone'.

Captain Subtext;
Willow is a 'breast girl'. Andrew is hesitant to hold hands but as Warren observes you know what homophobia REALLY means. Spike tells Buffy she's a creature of the night, we'll later find that's true. Anya and Dawn dance together.

Guantanamo Bay;

Questions and observations;
The woman who asks for the mummy hand reminds me of Elle McPherson. The introduction of Clem, here unnamed. If I ever write a TV show I'm going to include a box of kittens in every script (I understand Marish Carey does the same thing?). The Nerds testing Buffy is reminiscent of 'Lois and Clark'. For my money Roger Moore is the greatest James Bond and Dalton the 3rd best after Brosnan. The foreman refer to 'Gidget' as did Joyce in Prophecy Girl. Britney of course, huge now, all conquering at the time. Warren's right about the o'clock thing. Connery is Warren's favourite Bond, interesting that he has a reputation for being misogynist?
Marks out of 10; 8/10

I love this episode. The part in the store is hilarious, things happening over and over. Gotta love it.

This episode was pretty funny...loved the X-Files bit because I just happened to watch that particular X-Files episode today.

8/10

I think this episode is pretty great. One of my favorite parts is when the Trio argues about James Bond actors.

Warren: Connery is the only actor of the bunch.
Andrew: Timothy Dalton should get an Oscar and BEAT SEAN CONNERY OVER THE HEAD WITH IT!!

Ahh, I forgot how much I love those guys.

10/10 for this epsiode 🙂

The trio <3
Although, i have saw this episode like a million times, and sometimes it does tend to get boring 😛

'Ya like slug?Go with slug! She's not gonna sleep with you anyway.'

Which bit? Does Spike ride his bike in this ep?

Yes, it's mentioned right after the kitten-poker game
Cut to Spike coming out of the bar, walking quickly, waving his hands in annoyance. He's looking at the ground, so he nearly bumps into Buffy who's standing on the street, arms crossed, staring at something down the street. Spike sighs and rolls his eyes.

BUFFY: That van.

Spike looks where she's looking. Shot of the black van parked by the sidewalk.

SPIKE: You wanna steal a van, I'm with you, luv, but we have got the motorcycle. (gestures behind them)
BUFFY: (shakes head) I've seen it before. At the construction site.

I wonder if she wore the helmet also.

I wonder if she wore the helmet also.

A proper one or Hanks old football helmet? Great powers of observation on your part:coolman: and yes, Buffy and Spike on the motorbike would have been a Spuffers delight.

As for Tim Dalton he's had a bit of a renaissance lately with Hot Fuzz and he was excellent as Rassillon in the Dr Who ep The End of Time

Buffy drunk is *so* cute!! "Be free, kittens!!" It's just so adorable! But SMG always is. Loved the "evil lint." It seems they hadn't decided to press the homosexuality of Andrew. Hmmm

I also thought Buffy drunk was hilarious, and the time loop was good too. I didn't like the construction site scenes though, Xander's coworkers came off as real jerks. Good ep though.

Watched this episode yesterday and I loved it! I liked it when Buffy called Spike a 'neutered vampire who cheats at kitten poker' and he replies with something like, "So you saw the cheating, then'. I loved the whole kitten poker thing and seeing Buffy at each of the jobs. I also liked the Trio and their bickering. And how Andrew spray painted the death star onto the side of their van.

kitten poker was hilarious, "your going to play for Kittens?" lol

That design was the flawed one, lol!
Excellent episode. Probably the funniest thing to come out of Season 6. The Trio were best when they were played for laughs.

When Buffy calls Spike "lame" to his face, I laughed out loud. Johnathon's "magic bone" also a winner.

I do wonder though ... all those tests that Trio were running on Buffy. What sort of data did they collect on Buffy's strengths and weaknesses, and how did they apply this later? Or did they forget about once they discovered free cable porn?

I saw this episode again recently, but I think it gets funnier each time I see it. 🙂 It's so funny when Buffy gags after drinking, the kitter poker (You play for kittens?!), and the trio's argument over who the best Bond was. (Timothy Dalton should win an Oscar and beat Sean Connery over the head with it!) I'm a Bond fan, so maybe that's why I find that part hytersical 😀

Best bit about this episode "Kitten Poker" and Buffy's disbelief when she finds out that it is indeed Kittens they are playing for. :biggrin3:

I don't think anyone will agree with me on this, but Life Serial has to be my least favourite episode of the entire Buffyverse by far.

The Trio can indeed be funny, but in this ep they're just plain annoying. I was begging Willow to come down and flay them all.

Everything about how Xander, Anya and Giles treat Buffy in this episode is just completely out of character and contrived. You're telling me that Anya and especially Giles would just stand there and watch Buffy weep in the Magic Box? It's partially Xander's fault that Buffy has to work at the DMP later, since he, you know, fired her. Oh, and I still don't buy that the job at the DMP was her absolute only option. That's not realistic at all.

This episode is just SO upsetting because Buffy is going through all these horrible things and the only person who cares is... Spike??? It's honestly not surprising that Season 6 Spuffy happened, given the way that everyone else is treating her in this episode. I refuse to accept that these are the same characters that have been supporting Buffy for 5 years. The only people that I don't despise at the end of Life Serial are Buffy, Spike, Dawn, Willow and Tara.

And one more thing. It really sucks that Buffy ended up never returning to school.

I so agree about almost everything you said but i think Xander had no choice but to fire her with all the trouble she caused his foreman.

The Spuffy scenes were great and so was the Trio, but Jonathan and Warren flexing the time like they did was just so overpowered. It's like the writers totally abandoned a proper balance of powers for some cheap jokes and a depressing plot and that's so not what S6 lacks of.

I always wondered why Buffy didn't asked the Council for financial support, they are somewhat her employers and the Summers Estate is pretty much their one and only line of defence. Besides, it's indicated that the Magic Box is a real goldmine and Buffy got Giles reinstituted so I kind of feel like he owes her something and definitly not that troubled face he makes at the end.

I love this episode, so far in my season 6 rewatch it's my favorite. Definitely refreshing to have some comic relief from the other first 5 eps.

And the Trio with their van always reminds me of that Altell wireless commercial with the guys summoning the wizard painted on the side of their van LOL!

Love the part with Buffy drinking at Spike's place. She makes that sound everytime she takes a drink!

Aw, I suprised myself by actually liking this episode. Namly because some of it was amusing to me and I liked the kitten poker.
