The Good;
Kathy is a wonderful character and I wish we'd seen her again (the actress later turns up as recurring character in Desperate Housewives, the nurse who accidentally kills Carlos' mother). I was genuinely suprised that she was a demon, I thought Buffy was going nuts (great performance from SMG, amazing what a little eye-shadow can do). The fight between the 2 at the end and the argument between Kathy and her dad is terrific. The final gag is excellent too although Buffy's scarf makes her look a lot like Joyce when she's had her operation.
The Bad;
Exactly how long would it have taken the demons to work out that Buffy wasn't Kathy?
Best line;
Kathy; I just wanted to make sure we didn't have a thief or somthing?
Buffy; Like who? Sid the wiley dairy gnome?
but I also like Oz; 'On the plus side you killed the bench which was looking shifty' and 'No one deserves mime'
Wheldon Cliches;

Character death; none
Shot;
Tied up;
Buffy is netted and tied up by Xander, Oz and Giles. They need to work on their Boy Scout skills though (Buffy's been tied up and escaped countless times and I'm sure escapology must be part of Slayer training?)
Knocked out;
Yep, Oz and Xander by Buffy
Women good/men bad;
Patriarchical demons not letting their daughters go to college. On the other hand it seems that Hank still helps out with Buffy's tuition.
Jeez!;
Kathy slamming the phone into Buffy's face is gruesome yet oddly funny
Kinky dinky;
Xander wonders why Giles doesn't have any manacles like any self-respecting bachelor? Both Oz and Xander admire Parker's 'driveby' hitting on Buffy.
Calling Captain Subtext;
Kathy puts the moves on Parker much to Buffy chagrin. Buffy and Willow end up in the end being roomates. And here is Veruca for the first time, the little scene between her and Oz subtle but incredibly significant. Willow refers to Parker as the cutie-patootie once again casting her as Bi rather than gay. Willow refers to Giles as their 'grown up friend' but not in a creepy way.
Guantanamo Bay;

Scoobies to the ER;
Buffy isn't hurt despite the no-holds barred thrashing she and Kathy give each other
Where's Dawn?
Kathy comments that Buffy has always been an only child, well not always. She also says she and Buffy are like sisters, well Dawn and Buff fight too and Dawn turns out not to be what she seems

Questions and observations;
Giles reads Scooter and Motorbike magazine, did he sell Wes his? A funny but pretty slight ep with some good performances from the leads. I think season 4 is just taking a little time to find it's feet.
Marks out of 10; 6/10, a slight ep but a cracker, funny and interesting.

Eek, one of my fav, but not in good way. It just can relate to my life very much. 😀

I, too, thought Buffy went nuts herself. Who wouldn't go nuts if you have annoying roommate. I love the scene when they started to 'share' in the room. And Buffy drinking milk! LOL 😀

Currently reviewing Lonely Heart over on Angel boards, please fell free to join in

You're watching Angel season 1? Cool.
Though decent, I thought this episode was a little boring and wished it would've dove into something relevant to the plot. Granted, it was only the second episode of S4, but I can only take so much filler (unless it's hilarious!)

Kathy was ridiculously annoying! I watched this episode recently, about right before I moved into my new dorms, and was so nervous that I would have a Kathy!

I noticed that it was one of times when Buffy is ignored with her suspicions. They expect her to her job and know what's going on but whenever she voices an opinion points out something important she is ignored with the rational of saying that it's all in her imagination. No wonder she flipped at times!

I know! People don't appreciate how on the mark she often is.
It was a funny episode! I have to see more of 4th season to decide its quality...

Buffy was funny! "she is evil...she irons her jeans" hahaha! and Parker seems kinda cute...but he is a jerk right? hmm anyway i will see more episodes and i can comment on that!

Omg, how much would you have told kathey to cut it out with that Cher shit before you smashed the cd player up! Episode was ok, like a 6 maybe.

OMG, it was playing on my nerves too
I found the measuring of the toenails to be really funny. Possibly the best part. Which is actually pretty sad. This is just not a great ep. Kathy got on my nerves (like I'm sure she was meant to) and I didn't like the riff that was started between Willow and Buffy and will continue through the season.

Although, I did like the bit of Will's foreshadowing... at least, I think it's this episode. I could totally be wrong, but if it's not this one, it's close, so we'll deal. But Willow says something along the lines of college being an opportunity to experiment. Oh yeah. Bring on Tara!!

It was a decent episode. Mostly humorous scenes! I like the one where Xander and Oz get knocked out by Buffy :lmao:

Glad Willow moved with Buff in the episode ending.

I actually liked this episode a lot. No, not on the deep side, that's for sure. But I thought it was funny. and I actually liked Kathy, in a quirky, annoying way LOL. I thought it would've been interesting to have her continue on the show and join the Scoobies, then again, we'll have Anya who kind of fills that same role.

Loved hearing Pain at the end of the show. One can't hear Four Star Mary without thinking about Buffy! Liked the Veruca meeting, er, rather passing. Loved the conversation in the cafeteria btwn B, W, O, and X. Not gonna be on my top 3 of the season I'm sure, but not terrible!

Kathy for me wouldn't have had the same effect as Anya. Kathy was just annoying whereas Anya's stupid behaviour was actually likeable especially in season 5 and season 6. That was Anya's role and for me she played it better than Kathy would have.

Me too i found it hilarious. :biggrin3:

You're probably right! I just like the Buffy/Kathy interaction I guess.
Just thinking some more... I really have been underwhelmed by Anya thus far. I love Anya, she's one of my favorite characters, but season 3 Anya is not the same as the rest of the series. I know she gets better, and you start to see hints of it in Graduation Day, but she doesn't do much for me...yet.

I'm reading a transcript of the audio DVD commentary, and Joss says that the Veruca scene was added here only because they were 5 minutes short for the episode. It turned out pretty cool that way, though.

I absolutely hate this episode. I've had horrible roommates, don't get me wrong, I just didn't care for this episode. Can't stand it. I thought it was really stupid.

Oh and as for the where's Dawn comment from the original post, it's still the fourth season. Dawn hasn't been introduced yet. Not until the very end of Buffy vs. Dracula in season 5.

This episode is definitely not one of my favourites, but I do enjoy watching it.

It was one of the silliest episodes of the series in my opinion, but pulled off the silly reasonably well.

The thought of having Kathy for a roommate makes me cringe! And I love the scene where Buffy is complaining about Kathy while Willow clearly has problems of her own (the party in the dormroom is so un-Willow!).

Urgh, I've had housemates who have done similar things with their food. One housemate in particular that even went as far as getting her own damn fridge that was just for her food! So it definitely brings back some memories!
