SLEEPER

The Good;
Love the gag that Billy Idol stole his image from Spike rather than the other way around. Some very effective horror and some nice comedy with Anya and Spike .

The Bad;
Nothing bad but this is a bridging episode

Best line;
Anya; "If I get bitten I'm going to come back as a vampire and bite your ass!"
Xander (smiling) "Wouldn't be the first time"

Women good/men bad;
When Spike rejects her Anya fears she's fat? (One of my favourite aspects of Terminator;SCC was Cameron's attempts to fit in as an American high school girl which she largely mastered by remembering the phrases "Bitchwhore much?" and "Does this make me look fat?")

Jeez!;
Spike biting pretty coeds

Kinky dinky;
Naked Spike under the sheets. Anya suggests some kinky stuff with the stake and says unsouled Spike would have her upside down and halfway to her happy place when souled Spike rejects her. Spike has no problem picking up women who seem a satire on the Spikettes. Xander seems to have a pornographic magazine on his table when Spike walks out. The bouncer is happy to let a girl as hot as Buffy in the club for free. She describes Spike as sallow but in a hot way. See also best line.

Captain Subtext;
The vamp at the Bronze suggests she'll take the boy and Spike can take the girl or 'the other way around'.

Guantanamo Bay;

Scoobies to the ER;

What the fanficcers thought;

Questions and observations;
Xander refers to CSI (another point against Normal Again being true). He also remembers Holden Webster from SDH referring to him as 'Webs' (but then he'd have gone to school with him longer than Buffy did). One assumes the harmonica player Buffy passes is The First as he plays 'early one morning' and The First knows what Buffy is wearing when it appears later. Aimie Mann is great and she plays one of my favourite tunes from the Radio Sunnydale album. Oddly the vamp at the Bronz speaks of her and Spike being 'soul mates'. Vamps in the basement are very Evil Dead. What's the First's plan for them, is it just building an army to try and take over Sunnydale?

Not a bad episode, but I don't know why I always skip it, or just watch it to see the consequences of Conversation With Dead People and Aimee Mann singing(+ talking 😀). 'Pavlov's Bells' is one of the songs I'll never get bored. 🙂

Lol, I love that Cameron's scene too.

I always thought it was a pretty clever joke to have Billy Idol as having stole his look from Spike. *giggles*

I can totally imagine Spike being a roadie to the Sex Pistols and having met Idol along the way.

Uh... the one where Spike hits Xander? Oh, the one where Anya acts like she wanna sleep with Spike so he won't find her out yet he turns her down!

Sleeper:

Here's the Xan-man, how I missed him, opening the door to his pissed off friend. (I think missed 'girl' before 'friend' ) I'm not sure it should be there, hon. Okay, now Buffy is in there just for Spike, that bitch, I bet she never visits Xander if Spike wasn't there. (She does! Remember in The Replacement? She visited Xander for a movie night.) *snort* I guarantee you it was Riley who dragged her in there, she preferred studying, when did Buffy ever like studying? (What are you aiming at? That Buffy doesn't like Xander?) I just don't want your impossible-to-happen Bander dreams to fly so high. (Look who's talking) Hey, I already know Spander is not canon, I'm accepting. Can't say the same about you. (For the hundredth time, I'm not a Bander!) You keep telling yourself that.

"I don't know, creature of the night, Buff. He's probably out creaturing. Why, what happened? Is he in trouble?"

Xander cares! Xander cares! Awww. Notice Xander's easiness about Spike's creaturing? I think the only Scooby who sees Spike's vampirism and later on accepts it is Xander. Buffy is still unsure what part of Spike she wants, the man or the vampire. Xander, on the other hand, sees both. He still sees Spike as a vampire, which is very smart, because no soul will make Angel and Spike magically something other than vampires. Angel, while with Buffy, wanted to feel human, and Spike wants that to some extent, only if these two accepted that they're vamps, life for them will be easier and they won't live in a lie. (Of course Spike accepts that in Spander fics. ) Totally, because Xander never forgets that Spike is a vampire, and that's much easier than Buffy's view about them being men and treating them like something they're not.

We're back in the Summer's residence, or what's left of it, where Willow dashes inside looking for Buffy, but sees poor Dawnie all bruised and broken, emotionally at least, and I'm kinda bummed 'cause I wanted more Dawn-trying-to-trust-Willow-again stuff before we get to this point. But as we all know, the writers hate me. And Dawn falls for the same mistake Buffy fell for. She should have learned a thing or two from S6, damn it!

She doesn't tell Willow about what The First/Joyce told her. That Buffy will never choose her, and I think by that they meant the LMPTM bit when Buffy tells Giles that she'll sacrifice Dawn, however I believe Joyce meant the incident earlier in the same ep when Spike knocks Dawn out, but instead of 'choosing' to check on her sister, Buffy 'chooses' to check on Spike. (You know that makes more sense than what the writers planned.) I know, I'm smart.

Buffy and Xander chat. Xander thinks that Spike's chip may not be working and that maybe Spike is pulling an act, and Buffy is all he's changed, I can feel it. Spuffy Awwws everybody.

Anyway, Spike enters 'his home' and is surprised that Buffy is there sitting with his boyfriend. (*rolls eyes* )

Spike: Well, this can't be good. You here at this hour.

And I so agree, Spike! I mean night is for lovers to unite, and here Spike is back from work, in need of snuggles and some sweet Xanny moans, yet finds her Buffyness here breaking the love with her slayer troubles! Grrr.

Anyway, Buffy is being her sweet Spander self again suggesting that Xander needs to stay home and keep an eye on Spike, but Xander being the jerk he is, blabs some lies about an important client just because he's more of a Spanya fan.

Anya is freaked with her 'Harris's, why is she calling Xander 'Harris'? (I guess she's bitter 'cause Xander didn't let her carry the name.) Anyway, Xander, with the knowledge that Spike is on the killing again, lets Anya do the baby-sitting. I guess he still has some issues with Anya sleeping with Spike, and wants his revenge. (Sure, he lived three years with Anya after all.) I really think Xander is being a jerk here, first he doesn't want to stay with Spike and that alone makes him win the jerk trophy of the year, and now he's leaving Anya in danger! Jerk, jerk, jerk"¦. I'm so mad at him right now.

ANYA
Better be, because if I get vamped, I'm gonna bite your ass.
XANDER
(walks out the door) Wouldn't be the first time. (smiles)

*slowly beams* Well, not when he's smiling like that. And I'm so biting that ass too! *drools* (Stand in line then, sweetheart.)

Buffy meets up with Willow and is all 'Dawn, Dawn, my sister, I care' but then learns that Dawn is fine and asleep. Hmm Willow is acting all witty like Xander in the earlier scenes, however, the only lines that made me laugh were the 'biting Xander's ass' ones. I think the writers should work harder on the jokes. (Well, best witty comments were in the high school years.) True.

Anya walks into Spike's-should I say room or closet? It's certainly as big as the royalty room- room with a stake in her hand. I must admit that I startled when Spike grabbed her hand. Cool touch. Hated how Anya went all 'I wanna have sex with you, Spike' humiliating herself in process. (Well, Anya is a sex-addict, and the show's comic relief.) She shouldn't be after Selfless. And I dunno about Spike, but *I* don't like your haircut, Anya.

Spike is off killing while Buffy runs in the crowd. Later in Xander's place, Buffy is there for Spike again, and doesn't let the poor vamp sleep. Buffy accuses Spike for killing the girl, Spike, going all defensive, tells her that she's insane to think that he had gone all the way to Africa to get his soul and then starts killing again. Spike, honey, this is S7, Buffy is allowed to be a bitch and in the end she's always right. Message of the season: Be an ass to your friends 'cause you're always right.

Anyway, I'm fast forwarding the scene 'cause it's one of the many Spuffy scenes where Spike starts acting pathetic and I *hate* watching my men pathetic.

Fast forwarding"¦ fast forwarding"¦ ooooh Xander! Eating and watching TV, we have so much in common. Squee! (*rolls eyes*) Spike comes out of his room, and Xander is exclaiming: "Whoa, whoa, honey, where are you going? We haven't had sex yet." Spike: "I'm sorry, pet, but I gutta get to work." Xander: "But I'm your husband. And the three sacred 'how to treat your wife-which in our case husband-' rules are three. One:"¦" Spike punches Xander on the face. That abusive bastard! Is that the way to treat your beloved husband? (Yeah, Xander should ask for divorce.) No!!! (LOL)

"He hit you?" Mommy Buffy exclaims on the phone to her little son. "Yes, mommy, he did," Xander sniffs. "I knew that little punk was no husband material! I'm gonna kick his hairy white ass so hard he"¦!" "No, mommy, you just bring him here and I'll do the spanking."

Okay, stuff happens. (Maybe you should recap that stuff that happens instead of your slash nonsense.) Well, my slash nonsense is more interesting to me than the action of the ep. Anyway, in the end, Spike looks up at Buffy with big blue eyes and cries again. You know, Spike, instead of mocking Xander's manliness, why don't you ask him to teach you how to keep those tears in? (That's not fair, Xander may have never cried on the show, but he didn't go through all that trauma Spike went through.) Spike lived for 140 years, he should learn how to hold them better now, and Xander is just a 21 year old guy, and I think he had his fair share of trauma for someone his age, I sure didn't go through all that and I'm 25. Besides, he still has more to come anyway. Sniff.

Hmmm apparently Xander had dumped Spike 'cause the vamp will stay at Buffy's. Pouts. Bad enough we didn't get some interesting Dawn/Willow interactions, now we're not getting Xander/Spike interactions? What's wrong with this show? These two pairings have many issues raised in S6, why don't these writers deal with them?! Sigh, hopefully now that Spike is back at the Summer's house, he'll have a chance to talk with Dawn about their issues. (Somehow I doubt that will ever happen.)

The Xander/Spike odd couple was a interesting concept for a few seasons, too bad we didn't get any more depth in it
