Something Blue

The Good;
The ep to put joy into the hearts of Spuffers everywhere. Brilliantly funny with some emotional resonance with Willow and Xander and Anya's relationship taking a step forwards. Plus AMY! Nice little touches too like Giles' 'Kiss the librarian' mug
The Bad;
Some of the demons look a bit ropey. Why does Willow's spell on the other's work instantly but Giles only becomes progressively blind?
Best line;
Xander; "What? How? What?"
Giles; "3 excellent questions?"
Wheldon Cliches;

Character death;
Shot;
Tied up;
Spike chained in the bathtub
Knocked out;
Women good/men bad;
Buffy comments that her dad isn't too far away which means they're not estranged yet
Jeez!;
Anya says that she used to do spells to give men 'Boils on the penis'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kinky dinky;
Buffy teasing a chained up Spike with her neck. Plus naked Amy. Xander tells Anya to consider his lips the 'fruit roll ups of love'. Willow shakes her booty on the dancefloor. Willow comments on all the demons who are attracted to Xander. Buffy ponders her attraction to dark relationships? Xander pictures her in Raquel Welsh's bucksin bikini from 1 Million Year BC. D'Hoffryn strokes Will's face (he seems to consider his female demons akin to his daughters?)
Calling Captain Subtext;
Note it's Spike who notices that Willow is still in pain. Perhaps William the Bloody;sensitive poet isn't totally gone after all? Spike's 'little brother' jealousy of Angel is still evident. Riley helps out the UC Sunnydale Lesbian Alliance by hanging their banner up and tells Buffy that he's a lesbian (he wishes!). Willow agrees that Riley has good arms (another tick in the Bi box)
Guantanamo Bay;
Scoobies to the ER;
Where's Dawn?
Presumably returned with Buffy from visiting their dad in LA. Buffy doesn't seem to get around to telling Dawn and Joyce about her engagement.
Spike seems to cast aspersions on Joyce's naming of Buffy which is weird as he normally thinks the world of her.
Questions and observations;
Hugely funny, nice to see that Willow mourning her loss of Oz hasn't just been forgotten about. A step forwards for Spike and D'hoffryn back again. Buffy again refers to her not being the greatest driver. Willow still has the pics at the peir from season 3 of Buffy. Buffy kills one vamp and Xander drowns a demon. Buffy says that they may be into a forgetting spell later and indeed in season 6 they are.

Haha funny episode, I liked 'Kiss the Librerian' mug too. I really like this episode, when Xander ask "Can I be blind to?", and Buffy and Spike with their wedding plans, haha so good, I just never liked the kissing part 😀

Amazing episode. I remember being so second embarassed by the outright ridiculousness of Spike and Buffy; at this point in time, I was like "OH MY GOD, WHAT ARE THEY DOING?!" while clenching to my boyfriend, half ecstatic, half in shock. Some hilarious stuff in here and I am so tempted to re-watch it now!

Did anyone else LOL when Buffy told Riley about her and Spike's wedding? Hahaha.

The spell wore off by the that time I think. 😉

I like this episode. It was fun. A bit of comedy never hurt anyone.

And I also like the fact Spike is the only one who notices Willow's feelings.

Yeah Buffy sells the 'crazed bride' angle pretty funnily

And that in contrast to Giles worried about her forgetting more important things (doing spells), to Buffy (the mission comes first before comforting a friend) and to Xander 'so, so tired of her moods' because having a beer is "Beer Baaaaaaaad".

Poor Willow. No wonder she was so disappointed when the q-tip didn't want to get unbendy!

Exactly. I love a big bad with a soft center.
Loved it. 🙂 Buffy was acting slightly weird though, other than being engaged to Spike. Like, the way she talked was a bit exaggerated. For example, when she was talking to Riley she was like "Spike!!" and she just looked and sounded so incredibly ridiculous it almost seemed like she was trying to act happily insane, IMO. But it was still fun. 😀

It seems a bit odd that Buffy and Spike only got engaged. The spell was to make them married, and not all marriages begin with being engaged.

Why does Willow's spell on the other's work instantly but Giles only becomes progressively blind?

As seen with Spuffy, some of them WERE continual. But I think with Giles since she said that he didn't see anything, not that he was blind, he began to not see anything. If that makes sense. 🙂

Something I've always wondered about is what exactly Spike meant when, right after Willow broke the spell but before they both went all "Ugh lips of ---", he raised his eyebrows at Buffy. It was like he was silently communicating something to her. Makes me wonder if the conversation of "Well, I've got to have something. Still have BUFFY taste in my mouth." "You're a pig, Spike." Meant something a tad different. After all, he wouldn't be a pig to bring up kissing. I would assume. 😀

So, while there were some things that could be thought of as mistakes in this episodes, I loved the seddie and it was pretty cute. Also, I like Riley in this episode, which doesn't happen often. "I don't think NO is a strong enough word.." "No I am!" Too funny. 🙂

Ag! I never noticed that! It's too funny! And it opens up a whole new world of possibilities.

I would say that Buffy looked incredibly happy rather than insane. In her mind, at that moment, she had been proposed to by who she believed from the spell's influence to be the man who she loved more than other (which is ridiculous, since all Bangel shippers know that Buffy loves only Angel) She was HAPPY. That made her seem to act strangely because of one major factor. She had spent so much time since coming to Sunnydale being frightened, depressed, alone, and/or abandoned that she had plainly forgotten what sheer joy was. She had completely forgotten how to handle that emotion. You want proof? Start from Season 1, episode 1, and watch all of the episodes and seasons up to "Something Blue." Count the times that you saw Buffy actually laugh or express great happiness. Those events atr very few and awfully far between.

As for Buffy and Spike only getting engaged, a lot of Spuffy shippers wuold be quick to point out that Willow's spell would have only caused them to get married, not engaged, and certainly not be so happily and completely in love the way that they were.

(I read somewhere that "Something Blue" was intended to be a sort of trial run to see how the fans would respond to a Buffy/Spike relationship, and the returns were so favorable that the plans proceeded slowly in that direction, just in case the Buffy/Riley dynamic played out.)

And playful, and possessive, she bit Spikes ear. Did we ever saw Buffy playing with any of her lovers?

She played football with Riley once, but the ball got broken,

Well she does promise Riley 'outfits'? She might have the hots for Spike but as she says to Riley she doesn't actually like him. And until season 7 that's pretty much their relationship

Season 7? Ah yes the Robin Wood pear thingy, as for Spike she bit him constantly in S6, kinda weird to bit a vampire.

Haha, yeah. Dead Things: "Wanna see the bite marks?" :)
Buffy and Spike's relationship was different from all her other ones. I realized last night that a big part of why I like them so much is that they're not sappy at all. I'm watching the series for the 2nd time, with my DH-it's his first time. During season 3 with the Angel/Buffy stuff he said, "UGH! What is this, True Blood?" because we're always making fun of how sappy and annoying Bill & Sookie are. She was totally sappy with Angel. Then she was almost as sappy with Riley (and he's really sappy too). With Buffy and Spike, there's passion and humor and an absence of sappiness. Gotta love it.

Yep, but still annoying to watch. To me that is-I know some people love it.

I so disagree with you on so many levels.

At least Bill & Sookie had hot naked sex (it's not their fault that only dreaming of Eric was hotter)
