The Good;
How brilliant is Danny Strong? So glad we had him back in the 6&7 seasons. His final talk with Buffy is a winner

The Bad;
Monster looks a bit lame, aside from that, great ep

Best line;
Graham;(upon seeing the Initiative's 'tactical consultant' Jonothan) "About time we brought out the big guns"

Women good/men bad;
Actually in this case 'man' brilliant but it's hardly real

Jeez!;
Poor Tara, you so feel for her

Kinky dinky;
Anya moans Jonathan's name during sex and describes him as 'lickable' (as indeed does Buffy although she claims she was only joking). She also seems to find his trumpet playing a turn-on. Jonathan has a threesome with beautiful twins which appears to be an illicit yet universal male fantasy to judge by all the Buffy/Dawn/Joyce or Charmed sisters sexfic on the net?

Calling Captain Subtext;
Exactly why does Giles have a copy of the Jonathan swimsuit calender to hand? Was it a gift? Tara and Willow seem infatuated with Jonathan, one wonders if he suggested it they might come 'running back to boys-town', at least for the night? Xander also seems alarmingly devoted to Jonathan. Spike strokes Buffy's cheek, their attraction evident. Note the evidence of Jonathon's heroism, no wonder he comes good in season 6&7.

Buffy and Jonothan beat Spike up for info. The police seem quite content to just let Jonothan handle things without their help.

Questions and observations;
The first mention of the world without shrimp as far as I know? Of course it's actually Jonathon who works out Adam's weakness although surely if you cut his head off it would slow him down a great deal? Note Buffy know's how to make Jonathon's coffee. Less Adam in this ep and it's all the better for it. An ep much beloved of fanfic writers as whatever has gone on before Jonathon can always put it right. We also see Buffy show her strength, able to see beyond the illusion and show her latent power. Riley begins to see beyond the Initiative and is introduced to magic. How great is magic Jane's commentary? You wonder why Buffy is so mad at Riley, Faith fools Joyce and until Dawn shows up there's no one closer to her than her mum. Now of course this marks the halfway point of Buffy, 72 down, 72 to go.

Really? I think it's hysterical! As for Buffy's hair the only time I don't like it is in The Zeppo where it looks as though she's run it through a crinkly chip making machine

I don't know, I don't like it. Oh, yeah her hear in The Zeppo wasn't that pretty but it wasn't worst. I was all about Bangel part in that ep. 🙂

I get the impression you pick and choose your eps. Let me guess what your post season 3 favourites are, The Yoko Factor, Forever, Chosen by any chance?

Umm, no. I don't like The Yoko Factor that much, I mean I'm glad Angel is back, but it's not my favourite. Forever is nice it's pretty so I can say yes, but I do like body and I was made to love you.. and I love Selfless more then Chosen 😉
 
I liked Superstar alot too, one of the funniest in s4. Anya in particular was very funny, with her trying to explain the shrimp dimension to everyone. It was a unique interesting episode.
 
I think the fact that they printed Jonathon comic books was even cooler. Did anyone ever buy any?
 
I'm not sure about this episode. It was fun to see some of the scenes with Xander, Anya and the others. Their obsession with anything related to Jonathan gave me some laughs :lmao: But overall I didn't really like it as a filler episode. The story wasn't related to anything about the current season plot(small scene with Adam that was meh). You could skip this episode and not miss anything important for the series as a whole.

I'll rank this as my worst episode of season 4!

It advanced the plot: they discovered the location/nature of Adam's power source and, through competent counseling, Johnathan repaired Buffy/Riley relationship after that Faith/Buffy body swap.

And also, my first Spike/Buffy moment "Sweet Slayer"

Yeah, it wasn't just standing still, Jonathon actually gets to play the hero, helping Buffy with his advice at the end, even without his superpowers
 
I really like this ep. It's not the best, but it's certainly a lot of fun. Poor Jonathan. He's so tormented and confused. Every time he did something amazing, I laughed. I was just thinking, "How much can they get away with?" When Anya mentioned being at the part of the book where he invented the internet, I just about lost it. It was so over the top!
 
I loved it. 🙂 It would've so easy to make Jonathon into an annoying Gary- Stu, but no, he was completely lovable. Even I loved him. He wasn't perfect in a way that made you feel inferior, but in a way where his light embraced you and made you feel special. 🙂

And it was nice to see Buffy not acting so superior. 😀
 
I thought this episode was great - I love the contrast of Jonathan's smooth-talking confident persona with his old nervous, bewildered self.

The little touches throughout the episode were great too. All the Jonathan merchandise and mentions everywhere were so clever, they really thought of everything. The opening credits made me laugh so hard!

Anyway, I thought this episode was really funny. Who wouldn't love to be the centre of the universe for a day 😛
 
I enjoy watching this episode, has some funny moments especially at the end where Buffy says Johnathan :biggrin3:

I didn't expect it, made me laugh.
 
I like the standalones. Not everything has to be about season arcs. Danny Strong is great in this - if only they'd had Jonathan stab Andrew, S7 might have been a lot better (I like Tom Lenk though)

I wouldn't have wanted Jonathan to stab Andrew, but I wish he would've lived through S7, too. Then Jonathan could've been said to have lasted the entire show. And I just like him better.

On Superstar, it's just an okay episode. I've only seen it twice, regular viewing and with Espenson's commentary, but I wouldn't watch it again on its own.
