Buffy ep by ep; THE HARSH LIGHT OF DAY

Interesting episode! I like the fact that Spike is back! I think James looks hot and hilarious!!! "I love syphilis more than you!" hahaha! So the next episode is supposed to be "In the Dark" of "Angel" right? where Oz is taking the ring to our sweet angelic boy! 🙂

I feel so sorry for poor Buffy!!! Is that jerk always using that thing about his father??? really pathetic and immoral!I really don't like him!If he wanted one night stand he should have been clear about it!Maybe he doesn't have the courage to say what he really wants...maybe he is THAT pathetic!

Beginning of Xander and Anya! Anya is so "direct", Xander was right!I think Anya is like a robot turning human...or sth like that!I enjoy her talking! And i think she starts falling in love with Xander!
"Still more romantic than Faith" of course Xander!Every girl is more romantic than Faith. For now.

The fight with Spike was really good. But I didn't enjoy her being humilated by him...(foreshadowing sth else in the future perhaps...) the way he talks to her...and mentioning the thing that hurts the most...Angel. It wasn't Angel who commented on that night with the Slayer...it was Angelus.

Poor Buffy. The second time she acted spontaneously and the next day she gets rejection. First from Angelus...and second from that jerk!!!

Sarah has said she didn't agree with Buffy sleeping with Parker because she felt it was out of character; since it was too soon after Angel had left. I agree with that.

Regardless, Parker was a jerk and we see that later on.

EDIT: To Eleftheria;
Yes, she did 🙂 Sarah is all for Bangel 😀

she said that? good Bangel Sarah!!!I really love that girl! ;) yes it is too soon but maybe Buffy needed sth to move on...she learned from that mistake
Having gotten out of a relationship at that age myself, I don't think her sleeping with Parker was out of character. It seemed like a normal reaction to her changes in circumstance to me. I like that Buffy was never a prude. Taking risks was never out of character for her. This one didn't pay off, but it was a learning experience at least.

I know she couldn't stay stuck to the past...of course she is supposed to move on. She acted spontaneously. It seems, ironically, that whenever she acts spontaneously( "Surprise") sth bad happens...anyway.

I am not saying she should be a prude but sleeping with someone is a big experience. She shares sth really intimate. Buffy thought that too. But she was mistaken. She is not that experienced with guys. She used to be with someone who loved her more than his life so she has known love. Now she knows jerks!

it's a tough lesson to learn, but one a lot of girls learn freshman year unfortunately!
Good to have Spike back! The show is suddenly that much better. I'm not sure what I make of his and Harmony's relationship. He's certainly abusive, but in the physical sense, she seems to like it. And he doesn't seem to make any lie of his feelings toward her, and so he gets kudos. Of course he's being compared to Parker who *does* lead Buffy to think something else. It's actually quite an interesting contrast.

Parker's comment about the "dark, brooding, give me love" guys cracked me up. It reminds me of the scene in Tabula Rasa when Buffy/Joan is all, "A vampire with a soul? God, how lame is that!"

This episode was decent too. Spike coming back was great, even though Harmony was really annoying...

I think it's pretty clear they wanted us to see Parker as a jerk. I think it really show here that Buffy and Parker were not on the same level. Buffy only really had a relationship with Angel and it's like she thought it would be the same thing with every guy! On the other hand Parker must have been used to these kind of one night stands, and that's why I dislike him. He seemed smart enough to realize what Buffy was looking for with him, and he didn't tell her he wasn't looking for a lasting relationship. Just so he could sleep with her.

I don't buy the 'he thought Buffy wanted the same thing'. And we can see what kind of guy he is later on in the series.

Outside of that, I miss the library! :lmao:

This is the episode where I first thought, "Wow, Spike is hot." It's in the scene with Harmony when he pushes her against the wall and she says, "Right here? In front of everyone?" or something along those lines. He gives her this look that's totally sexy. Of course, I always have a Spike observation 😉

Well, it wasn't the first time I thought it, but yeah, they definitely turned Spike's sex appeal up a notch here. His sex scene with Harmony is even hotter, IMO.

I like the band in this, the punk rock girl singing! Good songs.

Bif Naked? Yeah, she's pretty good.

Anyway, I like this episode a lot, but I don't really have anything to add that others haven't said already. Parker is a dick. Spike is also a dick, but awesome nonetheless.

What's the difference? Does Parker just need to dye his hair?

Sorry, that post of mine was just poor. I really should think before hitting submit sometimes.
I wasn't trying to say that Spike is an awesome person. Of course he's much worse than Parker is. I just meant that I think he's an interesting and highly entertaining character, and I was really happy to see him back on the show.

I love this episode. I am a big Harmony fan so I love seeing her. Mercedes McNab is such a great actress. This is one of my favorite eps of season 4. The only thing I don't like about this episode is Parker of course. He is probably my least favorite character of the series.

My favorite part was the fight scene. By far the best choreographed to that point on the show. I know that at least PART of it was stunt doubles, but the parts that actually had to be Sarah and James illustrated perfectly just how well they played off of each other.

I really like this episode: the Xanya and Harmony/Spike interactions are hilarious. [how do you abbreviate that? Spikeony? Hike? LOL] I think Spike is much funnier, sexier, threatening on this episode than on the subsequent ep of Angel.

Anyway, gosh I like all things Angel, even when he's not there. I'll take references anyday. 😉

I like the band in this, the punk rock girl singing! Good songs.

Bif Naked. "Lucky" is one of my all-time favorite Buffy songs. It's on the BTVS soundtrack.

Wow, I totally agree on all fronts. I think Parker is a jerk from the very beginning. He wasn't even listening when Buffy was talking about drowning; he was rehearsing what he was going to say next. And...he's not even that cute! :eek2:

My fav quote this ep is a toss-up:

Anya: I like you. You're funny and you're nicely shaped, and frankly it's ludicrous to have these interlocking bodies and not... interlock. Please remove your clothing now.

or

Spike: Oh yeah, the Gem of Amara. Official sponsor of my killing you.

It's Sparmony :)
Wanted to add that I forgot how good Harmony is! I never liked her before, but I'm really enjoying her this rewatch.
