Buffy/Faith This Year's Girl 4:15

In Faith's comatose dream sequence at the very beginning of the episode, Faith says something about getting ready for little sis - I know Dawn arrives later (this is my first time watching Buffy - I'm only up to 4:18, and have no idea how the season ends) but for those who watched this when it first aired, was this completely baffling? I'm curious about this, as it is an unusally blatant foreshadow.

Trust me, you wouldn't have gotten it so easily if you didn't already know Dawn was coming. I remember seeing that the first time and going, "Huh? Little Sis? What's she talkin' about?"

I remember thinking that maybe there would be a new slayer arriving coz Buffy refers to Faith at first as her little sister slayer.

I didn't even catch that part till I watched it after I saw s5.

Oh, new slayer. That would have been an interesting thing to chat about during the rest of season 4.

yeah they made alot of references to Dawn, I think they also made one in 3.22 Graduation, with Faiths Little Miss Tuffet rhym and they also made several refrences to Buffy dieing, Willow made refernce to herself being Gay in Doppleganer(3rd season) even though she was referring to her vampric self but its all Seths doing in that department(since he left JOss decided to make the Willow/Tara thing go deeper)

Yeah, Joss had the Dawn thing planned out pretty much two years ahead of time. So you'll see alot foreshadowing towards that in later parts of season 3 and all of four. The biggest one however was in "Restless" where Tara tells buffy to be back before Dawn.
