Buffy gets a reboot! It's official.

At least this should help many 12-year-olds with their vocabulary. 😛

I'd think the parents who didn't want their kids to read "Hellmouth" also wouldn't be supportive of the story itself, either.

So, Carrie Diaries, but with the Chosen One. It doesn't appear to me, at all, I suppose the formula of dealing with our problems through monster attacks works for elementary schoolers. And by now you are old enough to know that pro-forma awkward racial diversity is how reboots work, gosh, they've been doing it since... Flintstone kids? Alvin and the Chipmunks '85? Superfriends?

Yep because only men pose a danger to children apparently. A stereotype that contributes to why childcare is a predominantly female profession.

I don't disagree with you, but I understand why the publishers thought it would be a good idea to change the sex of the watcher. This book seems aimed at small children, and Buffy had a very close relationship with an adult male who tells her to keep a secret from her mum . . . it's all a bit dodgy 🙂 Of course this book might not go the same way and Joyce and the Watcher might become close friends

Here I was thinking it was getting an actual reboot on TV. I don't know if I should be relieved or disappointed that it's only another comic book! lol

I enjoy the few callbacks to the show, but as several others have said, why not focus on a new slayer?! I always thought that would be a great way to reboot Buffy as a tv show, without actually rebooting Buffy. Focus on a new slayer, there are thousands now, of all ages. You could easily go back to middle school or high school, and come up with all new metaphoric demons.

For the book series, they can easily throw the Buffy logo on the cover to indicate it's part of the same franchise. I don't see many fans going out to buy this. I'll admit I am curious to see where it goes though. I'm guessing they can't take it too deep, since it is for younger audiences.
