Buffy in school

Have any of your teachers showed you Buffy in school (no doubt eliciting some sort of squee from you)? Maybe you chose Buffy for some kind of project? This is the thread to post. Oh, and if you did do a Buffy project/paper for school, can you include it here?

Unfortunately, I haven't had any teacher reference Buffy or had any assignments that was Buffy-appropriate.
 
Mhm, no and I guess we will never see a teacher who will. My last hope was that at least our English teacher, who spent as child a year in America would show/tell us something about BTVS. He didn't. He told us that we have to make a book presentation, I asked him if I could present a book of a TV-show called Buffy the vampire slayer and if he would know it. He said yes, he would know about the show, he didn't looked very happy. But he allowed it for me. I guess my other teachers don't even know about Buffy. Blasphemy if you ask me... 😀
 
One of the substitute teachers we had at my old school watched Buffy & Angel and she mentioned them at times. We never did anything about it though. Don't think we ever had to do any projects based around T.V or Movies unfortunetly.
 
I don't think my teachers even knew the show in France!^^ But in english class, when I had to wrote a story for exemple, I used to write Buffy's quotes without tell that it was from a show. Thanks BTSV for all my good results in english! 😀
 
I believe that I have two or three times. I tried writing an argumentative speech about Buffy, my teacher thought I was joking and laughed at me. Oops.
 
I would imagine that the reaction to mentioning Buffy in class now would be just about the same as it was when I tried to do a paper comparing James T Kirk to Captain Horatio Hornblower. I escaped class with my life, and luckily it was a Friday, so the teacher had the whole weekend to get her blood pressure back down. But I will always believe that she lowered my grade on the paper that I DID write (the literary, NOT the movie, Tarzan as the perfect Byronic hero) got a lower grade than it deserved. She admitted later that she had never even heard of Edgar Rice Burroughs before I mentioned his name in my paper.
 
I tried to get my Drama teacher to let us watch "Hush", but we didn't have a lot of time left in the semester. He did however showed us "Dr. Horrible", so of course he was the greatest teacher of all time just for that. 😀
 
I first watched Buffy in college--my next-door neighbor was writing her Honors Thesis on Buffy as Archetypal Super-girl or something like that. Kind of counts?
 
Never personally had a teacher that showed us any Buffy/Angel material or talked about it. I could imagine that they do have a lot of interesting symbolism and social commentary that could be referred to though. Then again, so do a lot of other TV shows and movies, so I guess the professor would have to be a big fan of the show to include it! Which is probably more likely now that the people who grew up with Buffy are at the age where they may be teachers themselves 😛
 
Yes! Actually my Writer's Craft teacher last semester is a Buffy fan, so we often talked about the show together during class. 😛

And for my summative, I wrote a Buffy fan fic which I think she liked. And since we had to present our summatives to the class, I got the chance to play a few clips of a few episodes as my presentation. 😀

Also, I'm using a quote from Buffy to put next to my name in the yearbook since I'm graduating this year.

Ahh, no!! 10 years of school and you'd think they'd bring it up once...I used to fantasize about the day one of my teacher's would ask, "So...who wants to watch Buffy!?" it would have been totally relevant in...a bajillion of my classes. I might just force everyone in my film class to watch it. My teacher hasn't really seen much of it and I am just dying to show her Restless. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it'll be relevant to...whatever the hell we're learning this semester haha.

I did write a poem about Buffy once for English class when I was 14. My teacher wanted me to email it to her and I totally forgot to. Darn.
 
I did a project on it for Young Adult Literature in my first year at uni. I can't remember much about it, I never presented it to anyone, just handed it in to the teacher.
 
I got into Buffy because my History teacher (who now takes me for two subjects in a row in the coming year) got us to watch OMWF in class. I actually think there was a vote thing but no one wanted to watch a lame cowboy movie and nobody wanted to watch Ice Age so somehow, and I deem this to be fate because I would have thought they would have chosen Ice Age, we ended up watching Buffy. I voted for Buffy, even though I had no idea what it was aside from the familiar name.

Since then I have talked to him several times during school. I told him when I first started watching Buffy and he told me I should watch Whedon's other stuff too. He has made several Buffy references in class since I got into the show. And everyone now looks at me because they know why Buffy keeps getting worked in there.

In my English class we had to do this sort of paper of connecting themes in various texts (movies, television, books, poems) and I decided my theme would be 'You don't know what you've got until it's gone.' I proceeded to write about several things including...Buffy! I wrote about Buffy and a normal life and I also wrote about Spike and his chip, quoting him directly from the episode Where the Wild Things Are. I got a good grade on this paper too, so I'm pretty proud.

OH, and also in my speech I managed to begin wtih an Angel quote. Since my speech was about finding your passion...can you guess what I quoted? 🙂

So, as you can see I always find a way to work in what I love when it comes to school. It makes it more fun, and I just love it so much. I will probably find many more ways to work it into my school work this year. English, Media Studies, Drama...challenge me!
 
I remember when I was in High School there was news about there being Buffy courses in college.. some sort of film class.. which I was heading off to Film School anyways. Well I remember being let down when I never saw Buffy Storytelling 101 on the college courses options.. hah.

I became really good friends with (and still today) with one of my English teachers.. we both were both Buffy fans..

I remember when I first started the show in Middle School, and Willow kept substituting in the classes.. my idea of High School was so different. Between Buffy, 90210, and Saved by the Bell.. I thought you could teach class, skip class, and pretty much do whatever you wanted. I must say, it wasn't too far off, but not quite the same, hahaha
 
I have encountered Buffy a few times in school.

My professor mentioned Buffy in Popular Culture class, when he was discussing strong female characters in television.

I once used some clips from Buffy in a presentation I did on the evolving nature of language for History of English class. I talked about slang and used "Buffyseak" and th book Slayer Slang as an example of clever slang.

I also ran a group in college called Whedonites, where we would get together and watch Dollhouse.

I also know a few peofessors who use Buffy to teach. Here at UW there is a whole class on Buffy you can take.
 
Buffy, Dollhouse and Firefly get mentioned a fair bit on my course at uni. But I'm doing a Film & TV course so it's a bit more likely! Buffy gets brought up most, but we've not actually watched an episode yet. There was a big pic of Buffy and Faith in one lecturers powerpoints last week though! (She even mentioned how she prefers Faith to Buffy and wished the show was about Faith.)

Last year a different one mentioned it quite a bit and I was close to having a heartattack because twice in her power point on the subject she had written FIREFOX instead of FIREFLY. raaaggeeee!
