Buffy instead of Darla?

You know Julie played a preppy High School Cheerleader in Jawbreaker, right?

Yes, and I think she looks to mature in Jawbreaker, she is playing someone 10 years younger than she actually is after all. And also I don't think the role suited her at all.

I think Julie's voice is really made for the seductive, evil vampire Darla!I really can't imagine her as Buffy, cause i think SMG has a more sweet.angelic face while Julie is different!I think she is perfect for Darla!I wouldn't replace her!andof course SMG IS Buffy...i can't really imagine anyone else to do the work!

For me SMG is one and only Buffy. But I think she would do just fine. I heard that they were considering Kate Holmes or Selma Blair for the role? Katie for Buffy? That would be one of the funniest things ever.

The fact is that Julie or any number of actors could have played Buffy and done as good, or, do I dare say it? Yes. There are actors who could have done an even BETTER job than Sarah did. And, if one of them had actually gotten the part, we would be here right now discussing the fact that no one could have portrayed Buffy as well as (fill in the blank) did, and who the heck is Sarah Michelle Gellar? Oh, yeah, the girl who played Daphne in the Scoobie Doo movies. Right. Sure. And Freddie could play Xander, right? Yeah, right. Then we could have that guy from the "Naked Gun" movies play Giles, and Pam Anderson could be Joyce...

Well, Sarah Michelle gellar will always be Buffy in our minds, so it's difficult imagining any other actress play her.

It's possible Julie Benz could have been great as Buffy, I mean we only think of her as Darla. Each actor and actress brings something new to a role, so she may have played the role well, who can say really.

I mean what if Sarah Michelle Gellar had played Darla instead of Julie Benz. I've no doubt she would have been great in that role too, so it's the same thing again, every actor or actress brings something new to the role.

Theres no one actor/actress for a role, theres multiple choices.

It's hard to imagine things like this, but I absolutely think Julie Benz could have been Buffy, she's an incredible actress and has great comedic timing (Ex: The Girl in Question). Would she be a better Buffy than SMG? I'm not answering that one 😛

I think there's a reason Julie wasn't cast as Buffy... She wasn't a good fit for the role. I love her as Darla, and after seeing her in NoF, I know she can play "good" quite well, but she's so good at being bad.

Agreed!

Also, anyone who's seen "Jawbreaker" will probably know that Julie wasn't all too believable as a teenager. Even if she's younger than Charisma, I guess it's a look thing (though frankly I never found Charisma very high school believable either. Which is why she fitted better with the A.I team)

So I'm thrilled with having Julie as Darla, I think it suits her better and I can't imagine a Buffy who would've looked 10years senior to her Scoobies.

As much as I love Julie Benz and think she's a phenomenal actress, if Julie was cast as Buffy, then possibly, in this alternate reality, that could lead to Sarah being cast as Darla, which would completely ruin the character. Julie was perfectly cast and brought a likability to Darla, even when she was evil. She was a villain that, to me at least, much like Spike, Drusilla, Glory, Faith, you just love so much. I just don't think SMG could've pulled that off.

I have to disagree with you, I think Sarah could have made a great Darla if she had been cast as that character. Sarah can play a villian very well, I mean look at her performance in the movie "Cruel Intentions". Sarah also showed she could play evil well too, when she was Faith in the season 4 episode "Who are you". So although we will always see Sarah as Buffy, I think she could have played the role of Darla just as good as Julie Benz.

As I said before, no one actor is a role, there's multiple choices.

Obviously it's hard to picture Julie as Buffy since we're so used to SMG, but I still wouldn't like Julie has Buffy. SMG has that cute innocent schoolgirl look to her, and not only her appearance but her voice and attitude also.

I'm sure Julie could have pulled off an innocent schoolgirl attitude also (ehem, beginning of the pilot), but physically, she looks older than a teenager. I just can't see it.

No. You misunderstand. I know perfectly well that Sarah can a villain very well. What I meant was that Julie brought a certain flavor to the role. It's what made me fall in love with the character. And Sarah, while she would've brought her own flavor as well, I'm not sure if she would've pulled it off in the same was that Julie did. Sarah works much better as the hero, Buffy. And Julie works better as Darla, the villain of many colors.
