Buffy is obsessed with Angel

Well, I'm a Spuffy fan, but I do believe that Buffy loved Angel. However, IMO, it was a childish/immature (not sure this is the appropriate adjective) love. Super intense and naive, but it makes sense. She's 16 and he's her first love. Angel is tall, dark, handsome, tortured by his past and seeking redemption, it's intriguing and admirable from the perspective of a young girl (we later get to know more of Angel on his own show and we see more shades of his persona, which I personally love, I enjoy his gray morality). But no, I don't think she was obsessed with him, I think that she was young and lost in love (as the counselor said in S3), he was her first lover and was a HUGE part of her world (which is very different from the world of normal girls), so I can understand the intensity of her feelings.

In my mind the difference between obsession and love is that if you're obsessed with someone you want something from them even if it's at the expense or actually harmful to yourself and/or the other person whereas if you love someone you put them before whatever you want from them. That's why I would never argue that Angel was obsessed with Buffy- he wouldn't choose to break her heart and his heart and leave her if this was an obsession. Buffy did seem more like she wouldn't be able to be that clear headed and leave Angel even if it cost her something that it shouldn't. But then again Buffy is just a teenager and she's going through a lot so it might be that she needs more maturity before she'd express her love for Angel less like an obsession. I do think Buffy loved Angel.

Well, there's no love lost between me and Bangel (I'm clearly a die hard Spuffy shipper), but I have to disagree. Buffy absolutely loved Angel. No question. Was she also perhaps "obsessed" with him? Sure, I guess you could argue that...however, I would personally used the word "infatuated" instead. At least in reference to teenage Buffy when she first met and got involved with Angel. I think that's more accurate. Just my two cents.

If Buffy were obsessed with Angel, she would have forced him to turned her into a vampire, she would have chosen him over the world, she would have jumped into the dimension with him, she would have moped over him for av very long time. Buffy was in love with Angel which is not the same as obsession. Buffy's feelings for Angel are healthy. Though heartbroken she let him go. Someone who's obsessed will be unable to let go of their obsession

Nah, she loved him in a big head-over-heels kinda way for a long time but I wouldn't ever call it unhealthy or immature or shallow. Also she still had strong feelings for him years after they'd broken up; so it wasn't a 'kiddie, immature kinda love' either, that's nonsense.

Agreed. Honestly one of the consistently themes in Buffy/Angel’s relationship is that she couldn’t give a toss about his new life. Even when they get the Gem of Amara she doesn’t use it as an easy opportunity to go check his new life out - she gives it to Oz who was going there anyway. I think she deeply loved him but definitely not obsession, she consistently moves on from him and tries to move forward anytime he’s not around

It’s a total myth that Buffy/Angel never talked to each other though. They’re easily the most communicative romantic pairing in the whole Buffyverse. Absolutely no other canon couple cut the bulls*** as much as they do when they navigate their issues. Buffy being 16-18 doesn’t automatically make it immature

Nah, Buffy certainly loved Angel (and vice versa) during their time together. Maybe even deeply infatuated. But never obsessed. You want obsessive behavior because one is 'in love' with someone then just look at Spike's behavior with Buffy in season five.

Buffy knows about Connor. Absolutely yes. Even in the only cross-over of season ten, Xander talks about Connor with Angel. Faith, Willow, Xander and Spike know about Connor, I find it really hard to believe that the only one who doesn't know is Buffy.

Yeah, that's a weird. I think if she were, y'know, OBSESSED with Angel she might know about something like that.

But in (show) reality, Buffy loved Angel but moved on from him, and lived her life whilst he got on with living his. That does not negate the feelings they had for each other before that, because that's not how time works.


Y'know, thinking about it I just recently found out that one of my dear ex-girlfriends had a kid, and that kid is now 6 years old. And I didn't even know! Guess I never really loved her then...*sad face*

Indeed. I would have real trouble understanding Buffy's rationale or emotional state for the first 3 darn seasons if I didn't believe that she came to have powerful mushy feelings for Angel.

No she wasn't; she found Angel gorgeous and annoying 'at first' and then grew to love him because of empathy, shared experiences, caught between two worlds, etc.

lol. Nobody has ever decided to fall for anybody, that's not how emotions work.

And personally I don' think Buffy was 'in love' with Angel during that first season, certainly not before episode 7.

What? Actually what? Y'know what 'Bangel speak' is, right? Buffy and Angel talked so much about their feelings it actually gets a bit tiresome; its joking about 'in-show' and out by the fans.
They talked all the time; about feeeelings and about the past, the future. Buffy talked about her slayer problems and her home problems with him all the damn time. Angel knew all about Buffy because she was all 'listen to be talk about my day/night'.

Now, did Buffy really know Angel? I think she knew enough, but not everything, about him and his life. I think she knew what mattered and loved him anyway.
I also feel that Buffy always wanted to know more about Angel; even in S7 she's all 'Bitch, you were in Angel's mind?' to Faith.

Would she still love him if she knew about all the things he got up to on his own show? I think that's a fairer question, but the thing is she would still want to know.
Hmn, maybe she is a lil' obsessed, like 5% Angel crazy. lol

Buffy did love Angel. She proved this time and time again. Some examples would be when they were on the ice skating rink and he had his vampire face on. She was able to look past this and see who he really was, not what was on his face. Another example would be when he had just lost his soul and she had the opportunity to kill him on the mall. She couldn't do it, because he had mattered to her so much. I am 100% a Bangel shipper for life, and nothing could change my mind.
