#41 Buffy The Vampire Slayer
WB/UPN, March 10, 1997-Present
A monster show among TV's greatest? Here's why: Stylish, scary, sexy and smart, Buffy the Vampire Slayer (has any series ever been less well served by its title?) is a genre-busting original, defying and impressing skeptics with cleverly crafted allegories of good and evil. Creator Joss Whedon uses the supernatural to probe teenage angst, family issues and just about anything else that crosses his mind. His offbeat thriller has embraced styles as eclectic as silent film and movie musicals, stretching far beyond the show's source (Whedon's forgettable 1992 film of the same name). Whedon "wasn't just setting out to make a teen show," says Alyson Hannigan, who plays resident witch Willow. "He wanted to make a great show. It had teens in it, and it was about high school, but it's about so much more." We're believers.

I hate the people who judge "Buffy" but it's title. [Grr] Argh. Atleast TV Guide isn't, and getting onto the 50 Greatest list is a great feat. Of course, we all knew the cast and crew could do it! Buffy rocks. 🙂 Congrats to them!

wow! this is great news. to see Buffy up there with other great shows from the past and present, and to be recognized along with them, is an amazing thing. and i applaud the people at TV Guide who saw how revolutionary, wonderful, captivating, dramatic, funny, deep, and all-around awesome a show like Buffy the Vampire Slayer is. bravo, bravo.
