Buffy Movie Idea

What would you think about a new Buffy movie using the techniques used in "300" and "Beowulf?" I have no idea what the budget would be as opposed to real live action, but it would certainly allow for virtually unlimited special effects, as well as allowing Joss to have a completely new challenge, something he really seems to thrive on.
 
Oh that would be really interesting...would it be the same actors?
 
I don't think those techniques would work for Buffy. The method used for 300 was to make it look as much like the graphic novel as possible. In Beowulf, it was (I think) in order to make the supernatural things blend with the "real" people as much as possible. Joss has already shown--through the TV show--that he doesn't need super duper SFX in order to tell his story. While, granted, better CGI would have been great with the big Mayor-snake, it wasn't necessary the way it was for 300 and Beowulf.

Just my opinion, of course.

I would hope that the original actors would be willing to recreate their characters, and I'm not sure just how much actual time would be required of them to make a film in this format. The original Star Trek cast reprized their roles in an animated series for Saturday mornings a few years after the regular show's cancellation, and they were able to do their voice overs for an entire episode in a single day. That was a completely animated show, of course, not live action, and I'm not sure just how much more live action was required to make 300 vs a regular live action movie. If any of the original cast either wouldn't or couldn't return, the character could still be used via computer generation, and wouldn't be any different than the video game "Chaos Bleeds," where Sarah wasn't available, so another actress furnished the voice. Though I'm sure that we would all prefer the original cast, with computer generated action, it wouldn't be really necessary, unless there were some legal problems involving using their images without paying for them.

Would it be classified as canon, I hope so. That would mess up a few peoples brain cells.

I see no reason to doubt that it would be canon, just as "Serenity" was, or any of the "Star Trek" movies. If Whedon was involved in the production/direction/story, it would just about HAVE to be (of course, Buffy livivg in Rome and shacking up with the Immortal was canon until someone came up with a better idea. Does that make Buffy a "loose canon"?)

I think that would be pretty cool. I cant see anyone else besides SMG playing buffy tho. Voicing her...maybe. But playing her in any kind of live action/cgi blend even, it needs to be smg for me.
 
Special effects like that take teams of specialists years and millions of dollars to make, a very difficult and time consuming process that has to be overseen day to day and is demanding enough on the cast for the voice overs as to make it a headache for everyone involved.

Joss hasn't ever had the sort of money for that, if he had Buffy and Angel would have had Matrix style effects and there would be enough to keep the shows on the air.

All that for one non-canon (since non-live action, non-season8) one off event that would be years down the line? doubtful.
 
my problem with movies like this is... all that time put into making it look pretty... poor/boring plots. Sorry, but watching 300 the documentary on the history channel was more interesting than the movie 300...but the movie was prettier. And beowulf i didn't see but ive heard across the board, really cool in 3D, otherwise really boring.

I wouldn't want to see that happen to Buffy.
 
I can see how Beowulf might be boring if you haven't read the poem, or aren't really interested in the poem. I'm a Medieval British Lit major, so I LOVED the movie; Neil Gaiman (and the other people who helped write it, but who cares about them . . . pssh *dismissive hand wave*) did a really good job sticking to the spirit of the piece with only one major derivation from the letter of the piece (and a few minor ones).

My dad said the same thing, but I think he's nuts, so we can't trust him. 300 the movie had a great story, about people coming up against unthinkable odds, trying to protect the freedom of democracy and the lives of their families. As well as one man's struggle to protect his people from the Persian army. I thought 300 was great. Haven't seen beowolf yet. Seeing Buffy I don't think we'd need to see it like this though... I mean a regular movie without all this special effects and looks would probably be a great move, a greater movie. As some of you have experienced sometimes the special effects and the way they looked might take away from your understanding of the story ^_^ plus I'd personally rather see Buffy how we saw it during the show, I thought it looked beautiful when it was on.

I'm sorry if this isn't what you meant but I found that somewhat offensive. You're saying that special effects will give us a lack of understanding of a story? That's basically calling us stupid if you think about what you said.

And again, sorry if that's not what you meant but that's just how I perceived it.

I was referring to this, I felt that 300 with all the special effects and way it looked was great, and that it had a good story to go with it, >he> thought the story sucked... and it didn't, that's why i said it

The way they did 300 was awesome, people looked like people. Beowolf was AMAZING in 3d (But boreing) but I wouldn't want them to make the actors look like computer game characters, it was intresting to see but it was in no way better then real actors.

You can't tell me my opinion is false. And there was no need to give negative karma as it's just not cool.

But I can also say that I have seen neither Beowulf nor 300, but I would really like to see the latter. Also, please try to make what you're saying a little more clear in the future GATEGOD. Thanks.

Just cuz...
I'm with Mogwaid. It has to be buffy, and well the whole entire cast if it's not going to be cartoony. I just couldn't have it any other way. But I would love a movie, any way you bring it to me, but here's the thing... Would it do well? How many skeptics, how many people that are not buffy fans and don't want to be fans, they will not see it. I mean, are there enough buffy fans to make it a serious box office smash? I just don't know, but I would love it if someone would fill me in.
