Thumbs up or thumbs down?
Apart from the fact that it's like jumping into a time machine and going just waaaay back, is this a good springboard for the TV series or not?

The thing that most disturbed me was when Merrick tells Buffy (Kristy version) that he had been watching her for quite a while and didn't know if she was the slayer or not...odd, eh?
Sounds like she was supposed to be trained prior to the then-current slayer's death.

Um, I know that Joss wrote it - well, at least it was his idea, can't vouch for how much dialogue was really his, but thumbs down. I laughed at a great deal of the movie, cringed at most of the acting (it wasn't even b-movie quality), and knowing the tv BtVS mythology was very confused by most of the movie mythology. I'm really glad I didn't see it before I gave the show a chance.

I was disturbed by the whole Slayer cramping/vampire sense. That was just stupid. And yes, the whole didn't know you were really the slayer just didn't make sense. It was never explained why the Watcher's Council didn't know she was a potential.

I give it a thumbs up!!

While I do appreciate that it has many flaws and does not come anywhere close to being as great as the series...I really found it cute!!

Well I have it and have seen it a few times, not the best movie, but alteast we know where Buffy came from and what she went thru before SD etc.

I didnt like the vamps in the movie, no cool bumpyness and no dustings, you gotta love the dustings...cramping was a bit weird I agree. I dunno, I guess it just wasnt that great for me for me. I love the show tho, people who have not seen either should never watch the movie first unless they make the promise to watch the show no matter what, lol.

I must have had the lame version of the movie since I did not see any gym on fire (as was told in the first episode of the series).
Maybe she did that later?

Thumbs up.. I too think it is cute... apart from its downs... I think it was pretty good... (for a movie from back in that time peroid) ... but hey that's just me... it was okay... no where near as good to the tv series.... (duh)

It was pretty bad, I remember seeing this on sky one the first night season 6 aired it was like a Buffy night. It was interesting to watch and I'd watch it again but I would never buy it!

Well Thats always been maintained through out the series, The council locates Slayers whenever they can (They can be identified by a birthmark according to the film, or a spell according to the series) and they train them, Kendra and Kennedy are both an example of this - They were trained since they were younger. But the council doesn't always find the slayer(You could imagine it as kinda hard) such as in the case of Buffy.

The series is not a direct continuation of the movie, the basics are the same but it is totally different, Buffy was made younger, The birthmark thing was gotten rid off, and in the series we are told she burnt down the gym, but it didn't happen in the movie!

Thumbs way, way up! When I got it a few years ago I watched it every day for months. Its amazing!

Shame they cut Seth Green out of it though. Damn, I wanna watch it now 🙁

There was a post on these boards a while ago about the TV series version.
It mentioned something about Cordelia talking about Buffy's nose and a thing on her nose. I know it's a stretch, but could that be the birthmark idea?

I think Cordy was just talking about the whole of Buffy's nose in general, cuz SMG is a little weired, The birthmark was always the same it was like a freckle or a beauty mark on the Brest, I think, and according to the movie Buffy had hers removed!

Wasn't there this whole thing with Joss having his original ideas but then Donald Sutherland kinda took over the project and ruined it, which explains the no burnt down gym thing? That's why Joss wrote The Origin (the comic), which was his original planned script for the movie.

I give it a thumbs up but i didnt like the whole she gets cramps every time theres a vampire around, wouldnt that just make her job harder? plus the mole thing..i never understood that.

I originally didnt want to watch the series BECAUSE of the movie. I am not sure, maybe it was a bad night or whatever when I saw the movie....(relationship problems, was with somebody my parents hated, and we all sat in the livingroom and watched this together) oh tons of fun. So maybe I always associated an uncomfortable evening with the movie.

That being said, I have since re-watched the movie, and found it to be pretty funny, pretty entertaining... It was OK.

i agree with someone above that said it's cute. it's nothing special & the series is just amazing so it could never even compare but i loved it when i was really little when it came out. i thought it was awesome. now that i've seen the entire series, the movie isn't really anything to me.
