Buffy Obsessives?

How many of you guys and gals would say you're Buffy obsessives? I mean how regularly do you watch the show and when you do how much do you watch?

I have to admit i am totally obsessed. I'd say when I watch it I can't just watch 1 episode i end up marathoning. Generally I'll watch some Buffy a few times per month. When I'm not watching it I'm thinking about it, discussing it, debating it or critiquing it.

If I were on Mastermind my category would be Buffy the Vampire Slayer and I would happily (and excitedly) take anyone on this forum on at Buffy trivia. That is a definite invitation! Sure, I'm a little rusty but I reckon I could rub shoulders with the best of you!

If the yard stick is how often we watch the episodes then I'd say I barely register as a fan.

But *looks at post count*... something is clearly going on here.

Ever since Buffy aired it's been a HUGE part of my life. I couldn't picture myself without BtVS. I don't watch the episodes all that often any more because of lack of time, but if I need a pick me up, it's the first thing I go too. Most episodes I've seen in the double digits now, some may even be nearing the triple digits 😛, which for any other show I often never re-watch after it's off the air.

This forum is the only community I'm part of, and I couldn't be happier to dedicate some of my time to being part of such an amazing place.

I don't know if I'd used the term obsess, because it's not like the show is taking over my life or my priorities, but I view it more as Buffy just being a part of me. Even if I go a year without watching an episode, in the end I'll always come back to this show, and it had a tremendous effect on who I am today.

I've been here for nine years - maybe eight. What does my stats say? I was one of the Great Deleted of '06, lol.

EDIT: Oh, it says Feb '06, I joined May '05, yes, nine years.

I haven't actually watched the show for a couple years (though I have been debating a rewatch. I miss it) but I'm here, every single day, talking about this show. I make art (see my art thread or my tumblr) and if I'm making art, BtVS is always the first place my mind goes when I'm looking for ideas. I've written fic in the past (though not for a good few years, my author mind has moved on) and the favorite fic I have ever read is still - and will always be - a BtVS-based fic. (though not a canon ship)

BtVS was the first fandom I joined. It was the first show to 'hit' me, and it has literally taught me everything I know. I am the woman I am because of this show.

I am this show. I will always be obsessed with this show. I could talk about it forever.

Yeah guys I totally get that.

I mean I guess the amount it's watched isn't so important as we get older and life gets in the way. But I will say, I grew up watching this show and one of the core themes of the show is growing up. I started watching it in high school.

But now, as a 30 year old man the show still speaks to me. Still teaches me new things. And still connects with me in ways I never thought possible a decade ago. And I will always be thankful that it is a part of my life.

I agree Lyri - I am a big part of who I am as a result of this show

I also rarely watch the show, I did half a rewatch a few months ago but hadn't finished it, and before that it's been a long time since watching.

If the quiz was on show theory and important facts (as opposed to trivia like "what number was Buffys house") I feel fairly confident I could walk it.

I watch one or two episodes of Buffy/Angel a day before bed.

I tailored my English degree to allow me to write, not one but two, essays on Buffy.

I spent a fortune on Buffy memorabilia, ranging from action figures to a scythe replica to a mini scythe to Angelus's sword to dozens of Buffy books: including novels, academic texts, companion pieces, commentaries etc.

I have every canonical piece available.

I constantly ask myself what would Joss do...

I based my dissertation on a book that Joss influenced him the most.

I am reading all about existentialism and absurdism because Joss advocates them.

I continue to watch SHIELD even though I'm not enjoying it, because it is connected to Buffy through Joss.

I have a Buffy tattoo.

I have a welcome to the hellmouth sign in my garden.

My interesting fact about me in interviews etc is always that I love Buffy.

In short, I'd call myself an obsessive.

Thanks, but I seriously doubt, and hope, that I'm the biggest obsessive on the boards 🙂

I think I've become more obsessed in the past few years.
I watch the show (big reruns) every couple of years or so, but I really started getting into Buffy when myself and a few friends decided to give the RPG a try.

I'm a big nerd in that area, and some of my friends were Buffy fans and a couple more were RPG nuts who knew nothing about Buffy. So I introduced them, they all got on really well. We played Buffy/Angel RPG on and off for about...5 years. And had some really great times, and bonded over the show.

I now write a lot of fan-fic, its kind of unhealthy. 🙂

At the moment I'm running two games one is 'Faith The Vampire Slayer' set in Grizzley Peak, Oregon. The other is a 'Ripper game (much darker and spooky) set in England, near Bath.

As an obsessive I'd say I'm still going strong...

Ah, I'm a luddite. I'm talking about a 'pencil and paper' RPG, not a computer game.

Though, thinking about it there should be a Buffy online RPG, with a virtual Sunnydale and everything. The only Buffy games have been platformers/fighting games, I think and the only one of those I actually played was 'Chaos Bleeds'- which was actually pretty good.

Isn't there an RPG book?

Yeah, they did a 'Core' rulesbook (which covered Seasons 1-5), Slayer Handbook, (kind of a how-to divise your own campaign) Monsters Smackdown (all the bad guys from the show), Director's Screen, and 'The Magic Box' Book. (which is all about magic/artefacts/tech stuff.)

Angel just has a separate Core rulebook.

Buffy got a revised rules book (that covered all the Seasons and had stats for people like Andrew, Wood, Dark Willow, Caleb-😱, and good, reformed Scoobie Faith. 🙂 )

I've got all the books (by Eden Games) except the Angel RPG. They're very well written and have a nice irreverent style to them, really captures the feel/humour of the show.

Top bit of trivia- the RPG is the reason Faith got a surname (Lehane), Joss said he got asked it for the RPG so he picked something 'Irish and kind of Southie.' 🙂

Tried to re-watch the series when it showed on FX, but never got to see the complete series. It wasn't until netflix posted every season that I finally watched all seven seasons in a mega marathon. Now I watch seasons 1-7 every year and watch my favorite episodes/seasons multiple times a year.

I also watched from the start - hard to believe that I have been a total Buffyholic all these years. I love the Buffyverse and watched WTTHM yesterday in honor of the 17 year anniversary and just loved it.

Does that mean you haven't seen Angel?

I haven't watched angel yet. I'm finishing a buffy marathon right now and going to start angel afterwards. I meant to start watching Angel in tandem with buffy at the start of season 4 but I forgot. Should I watch angel now anyways, or wait till my next buffy marathon and watch them together?

You can definitely watch them separately and still get what's going on, but at certain points it is fun to watch them together, but it's only a few episodes with crossovers, so you don't necessarily have to watch them in tandem.

My first re-watch of Angel is going on as we speak and I'm doing it alongside BtVS. It's not only a great show, but it's actually made Buffy season 4 (which I don't really like that much) more enjoyable for me.

Personally, I have never watched the shows in tandem. Even when the show was on TV, they screwed with the AtS showings so much that it just wasn't worth trying to keep track of it, so I just waited until they came out on VHS.

Now days, I'm just too damn lazy to change the DVD between every episode. I don't have time for that! LMFAO!

Yes, there are crossovers, but I don't think it's really necessary to watch those shows in order. If you've seen the BtVS episodes already, I think it's fine to go ahead and watch AtS. I think it would be harder to watch AtS without watching BtVS first.
