I always thought it was unfair the way Buffy was going out of her way to move on from Angel, with Parker and Riley while Angel was still hung up on her for the whole of the first season!
I think its interesting when she isn't bluntly mentioned but you can tell he's thinking about her. Take the episode when Spike comes to LA in search of the ring. Angel is given it by Oz (indirectly from Buffy) and in the next scene or so we see him doing that Tie Chi (however you spell it) that he used to do with Buffy. The phone rings and from the nervy anticipated look on his face you can tell he thinks its Buffy for a moment! Anyone else noticed that?
Of course She then appears in IWRY and Santuary.

actually, i always found it strange how Angel kept coming back to sunnydale making with the smooches with Buffy and asking if he can enjoy 'cookie dough' buffy when in reality he was having his own fling with Cordy. Angel needed to just freakin pick one and move on. This was then repeated with Buffy in angel s5 where he goes chasing after Buffy when hes supposed to be in a relationship with Nina.

Its like the writers didnt know what they were doing. Watching angel i got that Angel had moved on and was doing better for it, but in order for them to keep the Cangel fans happy they essentially made him into more of a man whoring cheater. I realize im being a bit harsh but still, I wasnt too impressed with Angels indecisiveness and I think this was solely to do with the writers trying to keep Cangel alive well beyond its expiration date. Cangel was dead once Buffy met Riley and Angel and Cordy started see each other with the eyeballs of love.

Buffy isn't ever going to get over Angel and Angel isn't ever gonna get over Buffy. They can't be together, and most people desire things they cannot have the most. Buffy tryed to ease the pain with Riley and Spike and the poop head parker0. Angel never really found someone else until Cordy started to get a look in , which is a shame because they went well together , bit strange but it worked well. Then Nina just kinda looked like a Buffy replica x

Dru and Darla where Angels first loves really, creatures of death and darkness , Buffy in the start is the complete opposite but learns truly she also gives the gift of death. Angel has never went for anyone who has non-supernatural Talents , hes attracted to strong beautiful woman.

Yet we all know who hes really in love with eh? Its Spike hes likes to deny it and protests that they hate each other but we all know they are meant for each other lol x

Angel claims he never loved anyone until he met Buffy. I think it's kind of interesting that neither Spike or Riley believed that Buffy really loved them. And from the way Joss talks, Buffy doesn't love Satsu either. At least Angel did love Cordy, I don't think he loved her quite as deeply as he did Buffy, but we pretty much know for a fact that he loved her since Lorne said so and no one would know better than him.

I'd say that at this moment though, the only person he's truly loyal to is Connor. And Buffy's probably most loyal to Dawn. Buffy also has the benefits of friends and family where Angel's friends end up dead, so...

lorney, I don't really consider Dru to be one of Angel's "loves"

Oh, and it is also mentioned that vampires without souls can't love

Darla: I've never loved anything so much
Angel: you've never *loved* anything

Okay, I won't try to bash Bangel for once, about if they really loved each other and yada yada yada, you know the drill. But apart from that, I think the whole time it takes to do dating again depended a lot on who they are. i mean, come on, buffy is a college student. There you go to a lot of parties, meet many new people and it is almost expected for you to be involved in some way with people, be it merely sexual (like with Parker), or a real relationship (like with Riley). Angel, on the other hand, was always one for the brooding. Also, he is way older yet claims Buffy was the first he ever loved, so I guess that also adds to the more time to get over her, knowing that in all these 200+ years he was around there was only this one girl.
Aside from that, though, did Angel really show no interest in anyone? Let's see. Well, I think him and kate could"ve started dating eventually if she hadn't thought Angel had killed her father. And there was that actress he got along with pretty well, you know, until that unfortunate thing happened with the drugs. So i think this was more a thing about circumstances, if things had been a little different Angel could've been dating just as well shortly after their breakup.

(You're gonna get the Spuffies, Bangles, and Cangles stirred up stirred up, asking questions like this)

Buffy isn't really "going out of her way" to move beyond Angel, she's simply doing what is normal, natural, and healthy to do. Angel remains fixated on Buffy because he is NOT normal. He's not even human. And, he firmly believes that he will lose his soul if he ever allows himself to have a normal, healthy relationship with anyone ever again. I'm gonna stop right there.

lol....well said!

Ok, I have to comment on that. While I agree that the Parker thing was all about Angel, with Riley and Spike it wasn't the case. Don't know about Riley, but when Buffy was with Spike, she didn't think about Angel, he just wasn't in her mind at that time.

lol thats a great point. I guess maybe its more a measure of the difference in their personalities rather than who loved who the most. I have to say that perhaps Buffy is at her most 'normal ' in season 4 "Im actually heading towards a pretty good life...bla bla" Its cos she isn't fixated and has more things going on. Angel is far more one track minded and yes he did show an interest in Kate but I get the feeling that he wasnt really trying to make anything happen between them even though it could. He avoided it dispite being attacted to her. Maybe he would have been a little happier if he let something happen, just a bit! Buffy was the opposite in that she embraced new connections with guys her own age.
Ps Remember the scene in Buffy season 1 when she sees Owen with Cordelia at the Bronze? She looks just like Kate there! Wierd huh? Anyway, I always think Buffy is happier not being fixated on Angel. Sure Buffy and Angel had great chemistry and that 'true love' vibe but there was also too much of that neuroticness aswell. Buffy never trusted him (she tells Angel "I trust Riley, I know him") This is stupid because when, with a soul did he ever betray her?!
