Buffy or Angel series finale?

I just finished watching Season 5 of Angel and then started comparing the finale to Buffy.

Which finale, to you, was the most satisfying?

I was sort of disappointed at the end of Angel. I'm glad Lindsey was FINALLY killed, but I would've loved to see a big fighting sequence at the end like we got to see in Buffy.

Also now that I think about it, Illyria taking over Fred's body was sort of a good thing. I loved Fred to death, but they really needed another strong warrior in the big fight.
 
it upset me that Lindsey died...he was always one of my fave characters, i wanted him to be in the alley at the end.

to be totally honest, this is a really hard thing for me to decide. the BTVS fianle was more rounded out, it answered more questions, and it was more satisfying to the fans.
but the Angel finale was different...it left you hanging, left you thinking. it was up to you who lived and who died. and i loved that. it was Joss's final insult to the network 'Ha, you cancelled my show, now you're never gonna know!' Joss knew that some fans weren't gonna like the ending, but he didn't feel the need to change it just because the show was cancelled. in fact, i don't think he changed anything from the entire season after he found out Angel had been given the boot, expect for the fact that Gunn was supposed to die instead of Wes.
Wes's death scene is, for me, one of the most powerful scenes in the entire series, and i don't think i could give that up for the world.

yes, the BTVS finale was good...it wrapped everything up nicely, gave Buffy the chance to have the normal life she craved for eight years...but i don't know...maybe it was the fact that Spike had died that's making me lean slightly more towards the Angel finale...at least then i can live in the fantasy that Spike survived! lamo!
 
Haha I agree about the Spike thing. I was SO GLAD to see him again. I also think he really brightened up Season 5 with his dialogues.

OH, I really HATED the references to Buffy in season 5. I really wish they had let it alone. I understand that they had to mention her a few times, especially the episode with Andrew, but I despised that they went looking for her and saw her at a club. It sort of ruined the Buffy finale for me.

Like..oh, she's in Europe. Dating someone immortal. Woo.

lol, you haven't read the new S8 comic, have you?
 
it's the offical Season 8 of BTVS, written by the man himself, Mr. Joss Whedon. it explains about the girl Angel and Spike saw in Italy.
you should check it out, it's actually a really good read. issue number 4 is due to be released this week sometime, if i'm not mistaken, and you can either order it online, or get it from a comic book shop.

you might also want to check out the comic section here on BB, and look at the spoiler/discussion threads, if you don't want to read the comic.
 
It's gotta be Chosen for me. Even though I love Angel & his show, Buffy started it all & it ended just as brilliantly as it began. Chosen had me on the edge of my seat but sad at the same time...I didn't want to see it end. 🙁
 
Well, as far as the shows themselves go, I much prefer "Angel". Seasons 2-5, that is, I'm not a huge season one fan. I liked the format of the show, the adult feel, the darkness of it, not to mention everything was much more visually appealing and slick.

But for a series finale, "BtVS" had the better one. It was a finale a whole season in the making, it made the show felt complete. The Angel finale felt like a season finale and left you hanging.
 
Gah, I'd totally love to get my hands on Season 8 comics. Alas, none of the comic book stores around me have them. (I checked the dark horse retailers)

They've got some of the first issue on Amazon.com for 5 bucks...i might have to look into that.
 
Both shows ended with something of a cliffhanger. That Cheshire cat smile of Buffy's just SCREAMED "You ain't seen nothin" yet." at least it did to me, and the events in Season * pretty much bring that out.

The Angel finale was more of a cliffhanger, despite Whedon's denial that it was supposed to be one. Whatever happens in the proposed Angel Season 6 series, it will only be an explanation of how the boys avoided being slaughtered in that alley.

Try TFAW. I believe they still have all three issues still available. You might also consider a subscription. That way, there are no missed issues. The only down side is that you have to wait a couple of days extra for each one.
 
Buffy's series finale provided closure, whereas Angel's finale left the ultimate outcome shockingly unclear. Looked at in this way, I must say that Buffy wins in my view. Spike's death was really effective, especially considering the fact that he was by far the best character in Season 7. And the destruction of Sunnydale itself was very appropriate. I liked the Angel finale, but I wanted to find out what happened in the end and that is something the viewers will never truly know. And I know there are comic books for Season 6 out there, but it's not really the same thing, is it?

All I need to say is that it ended it. It ended the show we are all here to love and talk about and worship. It ended Joss Whedon's brain child. And it did it brilliantly.

What started out as a 1992 flop movie came to be an amazing television series that made us laugh, cry, hate, and come to understand ourselves as people by seeing the choices Buffy and her crew made, and seeing how we ourselves have made a similar choice.

Oh, I'm sorry...I gotta put those candy wrappers away! They can be great reads, sometimes!

I love both finales a lot, and I think they both served their individual purposes well, but I prefer the Angel finale. The Angel finale, though it didn't have the season long build up that Buffy did, retained the message of the show with striking clarity. The point wasn't to see the battle or it's outcome, it was to show that, even though they didn't think they could possibly win, they all kept fighting the good fight, win or lose.
 
Buffy Finale was better the speech that she gave really made the final battle all that more meaningful. I did dislike the fact that they were all permenantly Slayers. I think the speel should have been temporary and so that way it would be a tad bit more realistic. I mean we cant have a whole bunch of super girls and wonder woman walking around smacking men around just because they did on little thing wrong. lol
 
I realize where Joss was going with the Angel finale, but I have to say Buffy's was. I felt closure, no real questions to keep me up. With Angel I was thinking, did any of them survive? Did Gunn die in ten min like Illyria said he would, did Illyria kick some serious butt, how did Spike do? What's next? Are they going to stay in LA to fight what WR&H was going to throw at them or would that come at them anywhere they go to. Ya know? I just had a lot of questions. With Buffy I thought, ok they are going to take a break and head back to the grindstone. I just knew everything would be fine. So yes, Buffy.
