Buffy Parallel with Amy's Mom?

Do you mean Buffy trying to recapture her cheer-leading glory? I guess there is a sort of link, but Buffy doesn't hurt anyone else by going to trials, and at 16 you've got a lot of glory ahead of you.

Pretty sure she meant Buffy's mom and Amy's mom.

I agree. I think it's more of a cautionary tale for Buffy. There's a danger in not growing up and moving on with your life. Buffy learns the lesson and moves on. She doesn't get stuck there. ... So maybe it is a parallel but only to provide a contrast at the end?

But you could say Buffy and Amy's mom are both trying to reclaim something they'd lost. Buffy views the days when she was "normal" as her hey day, and Amy's mom views high school that way. I agree that it's a cautionary tale, of what happens when you live too much in the past.
