Buffy/Parker silliness

I've just watched the episodes regarding Buffy and Parker. Everytime I watch them I start to dislike Buffy greatly. Why was she such a little girl about it all? How could she have been taken in by him? Couldn't you tell what kind of guy he was from the time he met Buffy? Why did she act as if he was the great love of her life?
 
Yea Barker or Puffy(lol that sounds funny) whichever way you wanna see it, was just sucky. You can tell because the shipper names are so stupid. I think Buffy was missing Angel at the time and just wanted to umm..be with someone. And also to try to adjust to this whole new college world. But yea, I still don't see how she could let Parker do that to her.
 
I think it was because she was particularly vulnerable at that stage in her life. She had never really experienced a guy like Parker before. Sure there were slimy people in High School, but not to the same extent as Parker. But you are also right that she should have seen what type of guy that he was, however she was kind of blinded by the need to fit in her "new world."

I think you're on the right track. A lot of the beginning of season four was about her starting college and being so new to that world. So vulnerable, as you put it. I think Parker was their to really put emphasis into that.

Not to mention, I think the Parker-Riley transition went very well, because we were able to see what a jerk Parker was, and what a nice guy Riley was.
 
I think that even though sex with angel lead to all apocalyptic badness, she was sort of able to rationalize it as being mystical and specific to Angel. I think that the fact that a human being could be equally hurtful was baffling to her.
 
Me three about Riley...but in real life we all tend to come across Parkers (or Parkerettes if your into girls) 🙂
 
I think she was in a really bad place at the time...big scary college...Angel had recently left...she felt alone...and she didn't want to be alone anymore...and so Parker came along...and she wasn't able to see through what seemed like a great guy to the real jerk he was...

But I agree that it did make Riley seem lke such a nicer guy...

I think Buffy was feeling a little lost at the beginning of her college adventure. Parker was the first male, or person for that matter ( other than the scoobies) to really take an interest in her. And when your vulnerability level is high, it's easy to mistake a bull**** sandwich for a burger. And I guess the situation highlighted a little on the fact that she was more than just a slayer, she was also just a mortal girl. : peek:

I'm with you on that one Cordy, its a situation which most of us face, and I liked the fact that they chose to represent that.
 
I also want to point out that Parker wasn't up-front with her about his intentions.

He spent time getting to know her, they had these conversations about personal things...you know the things people do when they start dating. 😉 And I think he was purposefully deceitful with her by not coming clean and saying he was looking for a one-time fun-type thing.

Yeah I hate when they do that. Poor Buffy...I was happy she found Riley. He was so sweet to her in S4. I loved when he went to heartbroken Willow for advice. "Buffy likes cheese"

Yeah he did lie and the lie was sooooo obviuos. It's very disappointing she couldn't see that.

The vulnerability could make her supcetible to sleeping with him what annoys me the most is how she reacted once she found out what he had did to her. The calls/stalking him. The beer drinking that turned her into a caveman. It seemed she was more devastated when Parker didn't call than when Angel was sent to Hell/L.A.

Theres one local one called "Ben Barker", so there are several girls I know who have been 'Ben Barkered'.

Having not seen the eps (stupid VCR) I like the concept because its something that happens to a lot of people but I think I'll just be angered at Parker.
 
I think Buffy was so heartbroken, cos she saw Parker as a way to get over Angel, or maybe she thought maybe she'd be able to move on, and then he turned out to be a jurk, and she felt like a complete fool, on top of the fact that she lost Angel...
 
I think that basically she hadn't adjusted to college life yet, she was getting over her heartbreak with Angel.... and just slipped.

She was only 18 at the time after all. She was still able to make rash and unwise decisions.
 
I realize that Joss meant to show it as something that a lot of girls go through, but it just seemed out of character for Buffy. I couldn't believe that she would just rush into something like that so soon, especially after all the drama she went through with Angel. If she had dated Parker for a little longer than one and a half episodes, maybe it would have been a bit more believable.
 
Maybe it was a little out of character, but I think that was the whole point. Maybe she wanted to prove to herself that she could move on, she didn't need Angel, and it was a new place and a new life, she didn't really have a watcher anymore, she could do what she wanted. Things in her life had changed, so maybe she felt like she should change, but it ended up just hurting her.
 
I watched the episode with commentary, and Marti Noxon said there was a line cut, {going with JustAnnie saying it was a way to get over Angel}

It went something like,
"I kept thinking about doing this to get over Angel, to say 'See how much I'm over Angel' or 'How quickly I forgot Angel', when I realised, it was all about Angel."

I don't think Buffy was thinking too clearly, so she did seem out of character...
