Buffy Reruns Phased Out: Beginning of the End?

In Canada the cable channel Space holds the contract to show Buffy reruns on a daily basis. BTVS has always had an evening time slot. A couple of days ago Space moved Buffy to a day-time timeslot. It was done without so much as a howdy do, showing a complete lack of respect for Buffy fans. There's a little bit of outrage about it on the station's message boards right now.

Usually when this timeslot change thing happens it forebodes the inevitable cancellation of the series.

This all got me curious about some stuff. How are the Buffy reruns being shown where you are? America, UK, Australia, Sweden, wherever? Are they daily? Do they still have evening timeslots. Have there been any Programming changes lately. Do you know anything about how Buffy reruns are performing ratings-wise in your corner of the world compared to similar programming.

Here's the big question though. What's going to happen when all Buffy reruns disappear from all television?
 
I don't think they'll ever disappear completely.

In the U.S., Buffy shows 4 times a day on FX, two eppies in a row beginning at 7:00 a.m. and another two eppies shown at 1:00 p.m.

It's also shown on FOX on Friday or Saturday late nights and I believe it's also shown on UPN or something on the weekends. I know it's shown on two network stations once a week though.
 
Well, Buffy re-runs, atleast where I am when I'm visiting in NY, are shown twice daily. It's complicated to explain, so I'll give you an example:

Monday Morning:
7 am - OMWF
8 am - Tabula Rasa

Monday Afternoon:
1 pm - Smashed
2 pm - Wrecked

Tuesday Morning:
7 am - Smashed
8 am - Wrecked

Tuesday Afternoon:
1 pm - Gone
2 pm - Doublemeat Palace


Ya get what I'm saying... It's kind of a cycle, which is cool, because I have to get up at 7 to drive my friend to school, and then I watch the afternoon ones right before I have to pick her up.

I see what you're saying about the phasing out, but it doesn't seem like it's happening here 😀

Well where as it's true Buffy runs a few times on FX a day. Buffy used to have a much better time slot. A lot of FOX stations also used to run Buffy on the weekend and that's been phased out quite a bit. Charmed is getting more play and newer syndicated sitcoms like *shudder* Yes Dear seem to be taking it's place in many areas.
 
I have noticed that it seems they are being 'phased out'

They moved it on FX from like 4 or 5 to the early afternoon. That sucks for people who have class/work.

They are on late night during the weekend on local channels, but that's about it. It used to be on ALL the time.

In response to nerd4hire's question: I have no idea how the world will survive witout syndicated BtVS. Who will stop this madness? Well have to go on strike.

Yeah, you can watch the DVD's but sometimes you are just channel surfing, and then hey. Buffy's on. Cool. So you watch and most likely trigger a wave of BtVS/Angel quality DVD time. So, I think that the reruns are important.
 
Well when they had the better time slot was also when the show was till and not all of the dvds were out so it still generated a lot viewings.

When Buffy was still on, FX would usually show 1 or 2 hours of Buffy back to back(6 and 7) so I would get my dose there since on tuesdays I would be able to watch 3 hours of buffy straight.

But now Buffy comes on in the mornings on fx and like around 1-2 pm during the weekdays.

But atleast it gets better treatment than Angel does in syndication.
 
Here in Kentucky, Buffy plays like this:
Weekdays 7am, 8am, 1pm, 2pm
Sundays 3am, 4am

Because of work, that means I only watch it on the Sunday showings 3am and 4am (except the loads of times I watch the DVD's, lol).
 
I'd much rather watch the DVDs anyway... I find when I watch on FX that I'm noticing all the things that they cut out, and MOST of the time, it's the things that MY weird humor finds funny... That drives me NUTS!!! : penguin: (sorry... I like penguins 😛)
 
Its pretty much the same where I am. 7-8am 1-2 pm, i hate that they moved the afternoon times down, i'm in class at that time and i sleep til almost 8 am then have class so i never get to see it anymore 🙁 I have the dvd's but i perfer to watch things on tv rather than on dvd, even though ya no commercials, i'm weird like that. I have no idea how the ratings are, i'm assuming they've dropped since most people are at work or in school in the afternoon, but not sure about the a.m.
 
Aw, thanks n4h for giving me another opportunity to complain about Sweden television 😀
First, there are no re-runs in Sweden, they just finished showing season 7 for the first time. In Sweden they have no respect for BtVS or the fans, at all. (I seriously suspect they have a some sort of conspiracy against Whedonverse.) They showed Buffy at 17.05 pm four (sometimes five) days a week. And since they showed it at the same time as Sabrina and That '70s Show, they couldn't show much violence (or sex I guess), could they? That's why they showed the whole episodes the same night at like 02.00 pm (a little different every night).

And, btw, I have to mention Angel. Sweden has just started showing the first season of Angel. They show it on Sunday, well, actually Monday I guess, since it's at 01.30 am (or something like that, different every week). It's like they really really don't want anyone to watch the show. They haven't even bought the second season. I officially hate Swedish TV4 and Kanal 5 (in case that wasn't already obvious).

So, basically, rigth now, I don't give a damn if they show BtVS and Angel or not, since they're abusing my shows like this. I own the DVDs and I would never watch Buffy on TV, even if they did show re-runs.

Swedish television has really violated Btvs/Ats.
Sky One in the UK finished showing a complete run of Buffy before Christmas - which they placed at various early evening time slots during the week. Mrs P taped and watched watched all of them religiously, even tho' she'd seen them all at least once before and even after I had bought the complete DVD set. At the moment they're repeating Angel on a daily basis, but showing it at either early afternoon or morning slots so some of the more adult eps have been skipped.
 
Here, the WB shows re-runs of Buffy on Saturdays at noon and Sundays at ten. On Sundays it's followed by Angel.
 
I have the DVDs, but I want it to stay on TV too. I did not realize that they cut stuff out on FX. Ive noticed the difference between Friends on TBS that they cut scenes out that were on the DVDs. Editing stuff out is most UNcool!

You know..I tuned in one day at 7 pm and it wasn't on! So I check ahead in the digital guide to see if it was just that one day..NOPE! I accidentally happened upon Buffy at 3 pm one weekday! I was ticked.

But they did that with Angel too - it used to air right after Buffy, now it airs at 1 am. They are in Season 5 now. Bet that gets moved too.

So I guess my reaction proves that YES I do still want it on the air..not phased out..though it seems that's what they are doing.
 
so are angel and buffy never on anymore, no re-runs what about channel 5 that hasn't even shown series 5 yet?
