Apart from him & Shannen Doherty (just no), I can't even recall their names. 😀 I think I saw Luke Perry in some B movies (there was one with an alien virus pandemic if I remember right) and it was all crap.

Season 1 definitely, but since we are talking about 90210 cast, I could picture Jenny Garth as either Buffy or Darla.
But I would miss Paul Reubens as Amilyn and his protracted death scene.

I'm going with season 1, because I love The Master, and Lothos in the movie (and the vampires in general) were just laughable and too campy. The Master was campy but I still feel his threat.
Haha. I like him in The Fifth Element! Cause he's only in like the first 5 minutes! lol.

I think you are thinking of Invasion (which was a horrible made for TV movie) and not The Fifth Element. Invasion was like an Invasion of the Body Snatchers type movie, where the aliens spread the virus from person to person whomever touched the aliens. Kim Cattrall from Sex in the City was in it.

SMG had a harder time making the role her own after Kirsty's film role, so she had the harder job. Plus the first season isn't so jarring in tone and doesn't have Donald Sutherland trying to screw up the mythology.

Even though season one is my least favourite (yes even more than seven, get off my back people!🙄), it still sets in motion some of the foundations which would make the show great in the future. Not only does the film over do it with the comedy, and cheesiness, but the comedy isn't even that original, and crucially its not very funny😉

I think S1 has more advantage for having 12 episodes to establish its characters and plot. I have not watched the movie, though I'd love to see it, I'd probably do that soon. From what I understand, some plot points were repeated in S1 like the story of Pike's friend being turned into a vampire and Pike having to stake him = Xander/Jesse.

This is true only in the very broadest interpretation. Both stories concern a character named Buffy Summers, who has a mother named Joyce, and who is a Vampire Slayer. Beyond those few general points, they are totally different.
But in answer to the actual question, obviously, I prefer the series to the movie.
