Buffy Season 8 motion comics!!

Here's the article:

Buffy lives!

No, not the proposed Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie that wouldn't involve creator Joss Whedon or anyone from the beloved TV show, which all serious Bronzers consider an abomination against nature.

Rather, a series of motion-comic webisodes based on Whedon's highly successful series of "Season Eight" comics.

An actor friend of ours has clued us in to the casting of the new Buffy webisodes, which makes it sound like the proposed Web series is moving ahead quickly.

Based on the breakdown, the series will be based on the comics and feature the characters Twilight, the Big Bad of Season Eight, and evil British socialite Slayer Lady Genevieve Savidge, who plots to usurp Buffy's place in the Slayer hierarchy.

Casting director Jeff Shuter is also looking for voice actors to play the parts of familiar Buffyverse characters Faith, Kennedy and Robin Wood, as well as a bunch of new characters (including someone who sounds like actor Daniel Craig to play a character based on the James Bond star).

Below is the full breakdown, with character names and descriptions.

Now that Dollhouse is winding up, Cabin in the Woods is delayed until 2011 and there's no new Dr. Horrible on the immediate horizon, this is the best news yet for a Whedonite. Yay!

PS I HATE motion comics.

Maybe it's like The Animated Series? If so, I like motion comics, but I hate if it's 3D.

About the voice actors, is it possible that the actual BtVS's television actors will do it? I don't hope for SMG. I know Gisele Loren did a great job in the games and in The Animated Series. And I guess they already got the voice actors for The Core Four so they didn't put it up on the list. 🙂

Interesting that they identify Twilight as a Caucasian male in his 30's or 40's. That may just be the type of voice they're going for, though, and I assume his voice is disguised since Buffy didn't recognize it when they spoke in "A Beautiful Sunset."

I think it's probably that. Look at America's most famous animated character/voice actor Kevin Conroy/Batman. In his hundreds of (Emmy nominated) portrayals of Batman, he has altered his voice to accommodate Bruce Wayne in his 20s-90s.

I know it's unlikely that they'll wrangle big names, but it would sure be something if they could get a hold of him.

Personally, I'd cast Ron Pearlman for Twilight ideally, in my head that's his voice.

For these roles, they're specifying non-union... I guess they don't want to pay SAG or Equity rates for someone with a couple of lines, like Robin Wood.

There are no listings for the big-name characters like Buffy, Xander, etc., so maybe they've already filled those roles internally.

I just wish they'd spring for a real Flash-animated web series and not futz around with this lame motion comic stuff.

I think if Sarah wont do the voice of Buffy they always have that chick that did the voice overs for the video games. She was a dead ringer. As for the others, most of them arent doing a whole lot so I would think they would be up for this right?

These are some examples of motion comics. The first one doesn't embed so just click on the video title. 🙂

Personally, I'm not a fan of them, especially if the cast aren't involved.

Personally, I think it sounds like a great idea! I'm all for anything that keeps Buffy "alive" and inspires new people to become intrested in the fandom. That's how it will continue to florish.

It might give more of a personal touch to Season 8, too. A lot of fans have been saying that the comics don't have the "feel" of the series. Perhaps this will give it some heart.

They did something similar back in the '60's, though not QUITE this good. It might be worth watching if it were all new original material, but just to re-hash the current comics, I really wouldn't be bothering with it.

The XMEN one looks a bit better than I'd have thought, but I don't quite think it looks all that interesting. I'd rather see even a simple Flash animation, like some of the cartoons my sister watches on cable (I can't think of the names... but you can tell it's just "advanced" Flash animation).

Still, I don't get the point of motion comics. It's not much different than looking at the comic that's in your hand. Completely new animation could at least paint a bigger picture, give you different perspectives, etc. WTH though, this is good enough I suppose.

I am a little worried. I've seen the X-Men motion comic, and yeah, I think it looks pretty lame. :\ Not only does the strange 3-D motion creep me out, but the voice over looks unrealistic.

I really don't really think the Buffy motion comic is going to be any better, but at least it's something new and I will give it the benefit of the doubt.

I don't hate motion comics per se, and something new in the Buffyverse always excites me, but do we know to what extent Joss is involved in this? 'Cause him I trust, other people, not so much.

It's his story, and they can only use the artwork that's already there on the pages... so it can't stray too far away from that.

Ok, thanks!
I don't think I like this. I've watched the beginning X-Men comic and it just seems lifeless and weird. Those animations freak me out too.
