I created this thread for those of you who felt the last few seasons of Buffy were inconsistent. If you can change anything of the last three seasons of Buffy, what would it be? It could be more than one thing.

Well, nothing annoyed me as much as the introduction of Dawn.

Also, there seemed to be so many plot holes and unexplained happenings. And Season 7 was just a mess. I remember thinking often, "Ok, but what about_____?" and it was never explained or mentioned.

That said, I still found them enjoyable.

I'd probably change Xander's profession. He wouldn't be a construction worker. He'd work in something that relates to the main story, either an investigator or a journalist. This is Moscow Watcher's idea and I think it's spot on. It'll give the writers tons of storylines for Xander since it's hard to think of storylines for a construction worker.

But...but...he looks so good in a hard hat! :)
Season 6
I would have had Amy was more involved & in the form of a big bad who somehow

The growth that happened with Dawn in season 7 would have came a season earlier.

Tara's life outside of the breakup would have been nice

Season 7
Everything after Conversations With Dead People would have been altered and re-written

No Potentials. Instead it would have been better to have a few surviving members of the Watchers Council. They would have tied into the main plot somehow with knowledge of the slayer line.

Faith would have come earlier

No relationship for Willow. I thought Kennedy was random and didn't have anywhere near the effect Oz or Tara did.

Xander and Anya would have died together in the final episode. The scene would be similar to Wesley/Illyria in Not Fade Away

I agree with Amy being involved with the big bad...or w/e. Haha I think I get what you're saying.

I liked Dawn's growth in season 7...it made sense that it happened then. Joss did intend for that season to basically be all about Dawn but SMG didn't want to do Buffy anymore (there were other reasons why s. 7 was the end...obviously) and thus...the potentials/end of the world/yadda yadda yadda came about.

Made sense that Faith came when she did because of the events in Orpheus.

And...ugh. Kennedy. Willow didn't need her. Also, I would have been really devastated if Xander had died. I feel like that would have been a huge distraction, I mean how would they have tied that in? "Our best friend is dead but yay, we won! *uncontrollable sobs*"

Hahah Xander has an investigator? A journalist!?!? I love Xander, but he is such a nebbish. I can just imagine him trying to get a story and spilling his coffee all over the poor interviewee. Construction worked for him (was that somehow punny?). He was really good at it...I mean he did make Buffy that gorgeous weapons chest 😉

He was a good construction worker because the writers made him a good construction worker. 😉 If he became an investigator or a journalist, the writers would make him good at them, too. Plus, both jobs would give him better storylines that relate to Buffy's.

The last three seasons were my favorites but I do think there are things that could have been done better. I think if I had to pick one thing to change, I'd want no mention of the First. Which means no potentials, no bringers, nada. I would have wanted a final season that was less of a mess. Hell, what would have been great (for me anyways) is if Caleb had been the main villain during the final season and 50% of the season was about him and the battles and whatnot and the other 50% was on the relationships of that characters we know and love and then it all ended in a big showdown with some main characters dying and Sunnydale not caving into the ground and no army of slayers which would avoid S8.

Then move all the surviving SunnyD members to LA for 2 or 3 more seasons of Angel that would progressivly build up to the massive fight that was coming at the end of NFA.

... I got a little carried away. 😀

Haha I just mean it seemed to fit his personality. He never did well in school so him becoming a journalist seems...unlikely.

I wouldn't want to change it too much - I did love it. Season 7 is probably my least favourite, but I still really enjoy it.

I'd change the number of potentials, give them a lesser storyline probably.

Maybe. Maybe he needs a job that goes with his knowledge of many movies and TV shows. All those pop culture references going to waste.

I wouldn't change too much as I love the series as a whole but because the earlier seasons are my favorites.....

Go dark, but try to maintain the balance of lightheartedness/family with the dark which Angel as a show was able to do. The characters went to dark places but the show's tone was still frequently uplifting and not so depressing.

More male characters, get somebody, Xander seemed so lonely without Giles or any male to talk/relate to. In the early years we had Angel, Giles, Spike, Oz, Xander. Then we have Xander and Spike who doesn't really fit into the Scooby gang in the traditional sense.

Lastly, better villains. The early seasons had consistently threatening awesome villains. The Master, Drusilla, Spike, Angelus, The Mayor, Faith. Adam, (and many fans argue Glory) just don't stack up. I am glad they brought the First back and I remember hoping before Season 7 was even made that they would make the First the final villain. Still I think the villains could have been more awesome in the later Seasons or even take a cue from Angel and have one villain that spans several seasons.

Although I enjoy the later seasons and prefer the earlier seasons of Buffy to any show on TV ever, I think the Angel writers handled all the young adult issues and metaphores than Buffy did after high school with more hope and consistency.
