Buffy Speak in your everyday Lives

Not sure if there's a topic on this, didn't see one, but I was thinking about how often I say words like 'wiggins' and 'nifty' and people look at me like I'm nuts. I use a lot Buffy quote-age with my speaking 😀 Today...or it coulda been yesterday I said 'To read make our speaking English good' and my friend just really didn't get it, so how about you other people? 😀
 
Oh I've always done that!! Haha. It's terrible; I've gotten stuck in the habit since my teens. I should really start talking like an adult. Haha.

Wiggins has big useage (along with the constant adding of the suffix 'age' to words, hehe)
I often say wicked cool, or wicked freaky or wicked whatever.
Neato.
And I think just general Buffy sentence structure. You know like the whole 'I am one with the getting of groceries' or 'Witness me prowling'. Stuff like that.

Plus, like you said Buffy phrases get used a lot. I've used the 'to read makes our speaking english good'. Haha. And it's even better if the person you say it to doesn't watch Buffy....because then you can take full credit without them ever knowing! Haha
 
Oh. I remember one I said! 😛 I've forgotten what she said, but one of my friends said something I was like 'Yeah, and that won't keep me awake all night' not an overused Buffy quote, but quoting is quoting 😛
 
I'm constantly quoting Buffy, but I also do a lot of suffix-adding (-y, -ness, -age) that doesn't TECHNICALLY work in the English language. Which is fun because I'm an English tutor.
 
And to anyone who cares; if you have an english exam, don't use Buffy speak 'cause you get a lotta marks knocked of for that :lmao: Not that I'd know -Whistles innocently-

Sometimes! Not so much to mess with them, though, as to lighten the mood because most of my students are Freshman and terrified of doing something wrong and completely insecure in their writing skills. So I try to make them giggle or something before I start pointing out the weak parts of their style.

That and it's just become habit.

Any Buffy habits have the ability to brighten lives ;). Hehe. Damn, wish I'd had tutors who spoke Buffyese....
-Sigh- If only you were *my* teacher, luckily I'm the only student in the class who listents to my teacher so she likes me, but she gets annoyed when I read Buffy-speak in my work...which I do a lot.

I still wouldn't let you use it in formal writing! In speech and informal writing, I'd have no problem, but for a formal essay or research paper, I'd probably take off points, too.
 
i tend to go with things like wicked, neato, nifty and wiggins.

for some reason i tend to say 'what's the hubbub, bub?' a lot. *shrugs* and the one about reading.

i also tend to structure my sentences like the way Joyce Summers pointed out.

oh, and i did manage to use 'That'll put marzipan in your pie plate, bingo!' once. i got some STRANGE looks, but i didn't care. i was just so proud of myself for fitting it into a conversation!
 
You should be proud of fitting THAT into a conversation. Even the Scooby gang were thrown by that one. Haha.
And in relation (kinda) to your 'what's the hubub, bub?' I tend to use 'What's the what?' a helluva lot. Sitch is something I've used often too, but that was oddly enough, kinda used in my high school anyway so maybe I can't blame that entirely on Buffy....haha
 
I would say I use a lot of Buffy speak. It's because I spend most of my time around Buffy stuff. Video games, and the show. And since I have a lot of free time on my hands I am able to watch the seasons as much as I want. And it just embeds into your brain. Like you grew up speaking like that. I guess it's more of a learned behaviour. And I happen to like it very much.

oh i do that A LOT!!! hehe, I've recently started using "age" at the end of every verb. (eg: slayage,workage, thankage) 😛😛 and i loooove love love to use the word wiggins, as much as I possibly can. that and "ohh angel...." you know with the furies? 😛😛
And another word that i love, which is not really a BtVS word is fantabulous and fantastical!😀
 
I don't really use Buffy speak in everyday usage. I may have said a quote or two to my boyfriend sometimes but he just looks at me like I'm crazy and rolls his eyes at me haha.

I have been known to quote Buffy when I'm talking to people on the internet though, I'm more of a writer than a speaker see, and when I say these quotes they just don't sound as good as they do when Buffy characters say them! One time I was talking to one of my friends on MSN and I think he was saying about how good friends we were and I should do something for him or give him something. So I quoted Spikes speech to Buffy & Angel in Lovers Walk about them not being friends and they'll be in love till it kills them both. Except I changed it so it was "We'll never be friends" rather than "You'll never be friends." Needless to say, he thought I was crazy, and thought I was actually being serious about us being in love!
 
Funnily enough, i spoke buffiage before it was on tv....which is kinda funny, and part of why i got hooked.....cause they spoke my language.....
 
Well I don't really get an opportunity to use Buffy speak, do I? except online when I'm texting English people. But that's not so much fun as when you're saying it.
In written language I always use bitca, lol. My problem is I can't always tell if something's Buffy talk or not. Hell, I'm happy if I can express myself at all.
 
2 things....

Fire bad, tree pretty when someone is talking to me and I don't understand. Which is often because things never make sense. Or when I'm just tired and I can't even reach my normal level of comprehension.

Whatever Umad (shush TC!). I use this alot. More than necessary and I never used to but recently it's slipped into my vocab muchly.

Oh and of course, the reading one. And Bored now. And just generally things that would come out making more sense in the Buffyverse than it does in real life.

oh yeah! like Social Suicide said, I use "bitca" a lot when typing, but not to my RL friends because they'd just be like "What??" lol!😛
