Okay guys, I decided it would be really cool to discuss some of your favorite Buffy-Speak. Not just funny quotes and dialogue, but slang and phrases that maybe you even use in the real world because Buffy introduced you to them.

A couple of things I use on my own include:

"you're/he's/she's not wrong" instead of saying "you're right."

"I'm an avid pedestrian" I love this one because I too do NOT have a license and I walk pretty much everywhere.

Oh and I say "sitch" ALL THE TIME instead of situation. You know... except in essays and job applications lol 😛

Anyone else have any Buffy-Speak they love to use?

I add "y" to my words now. Like just earlier today I said "they're all potatoe-y and I'm tired of them." About mashed potatoes.

How can you get tired of mashed potatoes? I love them! I add 'y' to many things as well. ;)

I do too.
Sure! It's difficult for me because, living in Germany, most of my everyday conversations aren't in English, but I still do it a lot, especially with my flatmate. We constantly refer to people as "bitcas", and I often say "You have something-face/but-face". I have also, on several occasions, told someone "You slay me with your words." Just now, in fact.

Oh! I also use "Your barkin' up the wrong asparagus" from Andrew. That line cracks me up. I too put the y at the end of my words... I can't think of any specific examples off the top of my head.

I think most of us use Buffy-speak in our every day conversations...at least, the native English speakers do, lol.

I use bitca, I add 'y' to the end of a lot of my words, and '-age' like Slayage. I tend to use 'put that in your pie plate, bingo' A LOT for some reason, and 'What's the hubub, bub?'

There are probably others, I tend to use more if I'm talking to Kean rather than my family, but those are probably the main ones.

I almost forgot about -age, I do that a lot.

ditto. I definitely use that

they're pretty much all I've eaten for several days.

I also use bitca quite frequently. And I say "oh my Glorificus" or "oh my Glory" quite a bit. I also use "it is officially nippy, so say my nips" basically every time it's cold.

I USE THE NIPS LINE TOO!!! I've said that so many times when it gets cold out!

lmao I say the nip line too :D
Being a french speaker I can't always use Buffy-speak, but whenever I can, I do.

I love to say:

x It makes the kind of sense that's not.
x Why don't you just sell drugs like all kids?
x I'm not in a state of...more like a continent really.
x End. My. Torment!
x Thank you for making us all look like crazy people.
x I laugh at the face of danger, and then I hide until it goes away.
x The spelling on the net is so depressing!
x To read makes our speaking good.
x I respect you too much to lie to you.
x Yeah? Well...SO IS YOUR FACE!
x It must be bunnies.
x Well I don't have cable so I have to make fun of my own.

And my mum and I often refer to our oven as The Mouth of Hell.

I love that you call your oven The Mouth of Hell... that's amazing
I also find myself saying "I know... Kinda sweaty" when someone mentions a bad smell... of course everyone looks at me funny, cuz it's not typically a sweaty smell, but it makes me giggle.

PS: I LOVE my new banner... thanks xfivexfive!!!!!!! *excited squee*

I often find myself saying "Fire Bad, Tree Pretty" when im confused! Which is a lot of the time lol, I call people "bitca's" a lot its funnier because no one has any idea what I mean lol

And I do the add a Y at the end of random words thingy lol

Thanks. I love it

Oh I also remembered that I love saying "Plus... Fire... PRETTY!" and "You haven't heard a word I've said. For, like, years back."

Totally do. When I saw it post up this morning after I set it up I had a moment of unnecessary grinning and excitement. 🙂 Honestly, still kinda in said moment.

I wish I could read more about this topic. I'm not an English native speaker, so I probably cannot fully appreciate the dialogues and the jokes.. 🙁

For instance, I've never noticed the 'y' at the end of the words! Can anyone point out a scene in particular? Now I'm curious!

I used a lot of random Buffy speak in day to day conversation, and usually people really don't get it. I always say 'bitca', that's a constant one, but I generally mix other things up. I always use the '-y' and '-age suffixes, as most people seem to have said, they're just fun to use, other than that it depends on the conversation, I try to throw Whedonverse references out there as often as possible. I always say 'Shiny' instead of 'good', which I got from Firefly, that's another one I frequently use.

The other day, actually, my Mum asked if I wanted my jeans to wear, but I hate wearing belts, so I told her I'd wear something because 'In my plan, we are beltless.' That's one she REALLY didn't get. xD I love referencing, to be honest. I use Buffy speak on a day to day basis, it's impossible for me not to.

Andrew karma! I love that line.
I'm at an age where I experience, um, thermal changes lol, so I'm often saying to myself "I'm cool. I'm hot. I'm tepid. I'm all-temperature ViGirl!" using my real name of course- I'm not that weird to refer myself as my username...all the time. 😀
