Buffy + Spike = hands on fire

At the end of the season 7, buffy tells spike that she love him and he replies that she doesnt, to which she replies only with a loving, proud smile. she then reaches up to hold his hand as his hand catches on fire. they both endure the pain for a few moments before buffy leaves.

my statement is this: buffy loves spike. even if he doesnt believe it and even if the writers didnt imply it. i believe that the act of holding his hand while it is on fire is her way of saying that she does love him.

I think your right :nod:....what i also got from this is that she finally got what she wanted... to feel the fire burn...not feel empty, which leads too, her loving spike
 
Yeah, I think you're right. And coming from me, that is a big deal because I can pretty much not stand the idea of Buffy or Angel truly loving anyone but each other, haha. I haven't seen that episode since maybe a couple months after it first aired though, so I'm going to watch it and keep this in mind. All the times I watched it, I was still too wrapped up in the idea of the whole thing ending that I never got to focus on the Buffy/Spike thing.
 
The flaming hand holding scene has been linked with Spike symbolically returning to Buffy the fire she wanted back from the Season 6 musical. The song was, appropriately, "I Want The Fire Back" (for the 12 or so Buffy Fans on this planet who haven't seen "Once More With Feeling.") I prefer to imagine it as a symbol of the eternal Fire that defines the Buffy/Spike relationship, and possibly an omen heralding the bond between a Slayer and her Champion, both of whom will face death twice and still remain to fight the forces of evil as the greatest warriors the Powers will ever have (hey, it's MY symbol, and I'll interpret it my own way!). Whatever it was supposed to symbolize, it was NOT just her holding his hand while he slowly burst into flame, because, at that moment, neither of them were actually burning and the close up of their hands shows no burns or blistering, therefore it had to signify something else, something perhaps planned as a later development, maybe involving a Sarah guest appearance on the next season's Angel where she comes back, tells Angel that her cookies are done, and Spike's the chosen eat...errr...enjoyer. Sorry, Peaches, just one more thing to brood over.

I saw it as well as Spike kind of giving Buffy the fire back. That reason or ability to feel again. She was so proud of who Spike had become. I think it was just easier at that time to allow it to happen, and let it be with him.

It may be the end for some folks, but for me, the fat lady ain't sung yet. Buffy and Spike WILL be reunited, and when they are, the very heavens above will raise such a cry of combined joy and triumph that Evil in all its many forms will quake in uncontrolled terror. The Slayer and her Champion will be reunited. Bet money on it.
 
I saw it as

Spikes a Vampire, he combusts in sunlight.

Spontaneous HUMAN Combustion, if it really happens, has been suggested only affects the human and rarely affects the surrounds, so it's possible that when a Vampire is combusting, it's only affecting him.
Buffy has no pain at all even after so that adds something to the theory.
 
Ya you aparently burn from the inside out. But I have heard no tale about actually seeing fire. Scary either way. 🙂
