Buffy Suicide Attempt?

In Once More With Feeling, when Buffy went to the Bronze to go save Dawn from Sweet and all that jazz, and she started singing her song about when she said where she really was, the Scoobies arrived, and then they found out. Then Buffy started to dance uncontrollably. Was that a possible suicide attempt, do you think? Or was she going along with the song, or rather, being forced into dancing against her own will? This is something that just popped into my head when I was watching OMWF last week on FX, and I think that it could be possible that she was wanting to kill herself. I mean, she did think that this was hell, and who wouldn't want to go back to happiness? Especially when you think you're in hell. But yet again, it still could have been her going along with the song, being forced to dance. Afterall, she wasn't the only one.

What does everyone else think? Suicide attempt? Or her being forced to dance uncontrollably against her own will and along with the song? Or something completely different?

Hmmm, I think it was more that she was being forced although I don't think that when she was dancing that she cared about combusting.
 
I don't think Buffy was making a suicide attempt, but rather admitting that she was fully aware of the consequences and ready to accept them from performing her number.
 
I don't think it was a suicide attempt, I don't think Buffy did that because she wanted to kill herself. But I do think that on some level she wanted to die. Or she didn't care, she didn't care if it would kill her, cause she didn't care if she lived or died.. But I don't think she "planned" to commit suicide that way.
 
I think there are ways she could've avoided that situation in particular. She could've brainstormed another way to combat Sweet. But, because of the way she was feeling, she choose the easy way, knowing then that her friends weren't there to save her and that it'd probably end in her death. If she really didn't wanna die, she wouldn'tve chosen that route. So, think part of her actions were motiviated by the fact that she wanted to die, but she just actively looking for a way to do so.
 
You bring up an interesting point that, when pondered, either makes no sense, or lots of sense...but very good question. Maybe she wasn't planning on going there to burn, or she didnt know she would. Like Xander said, they didn't really know if they were connected "the singing and dancing and the burning and dying"...
 
I think it was Sweet (was his name Sweet? People say it is, but it doesn't say) that said that the emotions run high and you combust.
 
I think that she was just going along with the music. Just caught up.

I think it was a suicide attempt, but can you really blame the girl?

After being granted happiness, she is sucked back into the place that made her life so unbearable.

I think the spinning that almost lead to spontanious combustion was her way of escaping from it all. She knew what it would do and she spun in a way that truly showed her emotions.
 
I think it was just one of the suicide attempts she'd had throughout season 6.
 
just one example that pops up in my head right now is the incident with her becoming invisible. she knew it would kill her eventually but she pushed it further anyway (of course, up to a point).
 
Well one other obvious one was Normal Again.

Buffy was incredibly close towards the end of that episode to giving her life up and letting herself slip away permanently.
 
I don't really think it is. In "Normal Again" Buffy didn't know what the reality was. She was so close to throwing everything away because she didn't know which reality was the true reality. Of course the one where she was back with her parents and didn't have the world on her shoulders would have been the most appealing.
 
See, i think that was just the excuse she was making for herself. In her heart she knew what was real, she just wasn't certain that she wanted to stay in that reality (a fact we were made clear about all season long) so taking the other comfortable, safe option to end it by "returning" to her mothers arms was just an anology for letting her true self die.
 
i think so too. while i completely understand where you're coming from, elmo, i think in this case both of you guys have equally valid opinions as far as season 6 storyline and buffy's state of mine at the time is concerned.

I agree, I think Buffy knew what was real, on some level. And in the end she did choose to live life in the real reality, just like she always does, just like she always realizes she wants to live, in Sunnydale, with her friends, with the slaying thing... She makes that decison over and over again without realizing that she has made it, that this is what she wants (well, maybe she does finally realize that in the end of Grave).
 
It seems to me that she didn't actually try to kill herself in that particular ep. Although, the one where Will and everyone brings her back and she goes to the top of that tower...I think that was her trying to get back into heaven.
