We have Dawn
We have Joyce and her situation
We have Giles opening the store
We have the Willow/Tara relationship
And behind all of that is the main charcater, Buffy.

Buffy seemed to be fighting everything this season (both literal and figurative) even though the main storylines did not revolve around her.

Sorry if I'm not seeing things clearly yet, but that's how it appears...even Harmony has some highlight time!

well ur forgetting that
rylie left her
her mum died
trying to find love
fighting glory
spike saying he loves her

so there are some about her

:jumping31 this little guy is so cute

^ Yes. Also, I don't quite understand why you feel she's not the center of it. That there are all these arcs in season five that don't revolve her. Buffy is the key link to all of them. I'll try to explain these as best I can - I don't know how far you are in the season.

We have Dawn
Brand spankin' new character. Monks gave her to the one person they felt could protect her. To whom does she [practically] belong to? Buffy.
We have Joyce and her situation
Again, Joyce's entire situation would be irrelevant if she weren't the mother of Buffy.
We have Giles opening the store
Part of this reason was so he wouldn't be an ex-librarian who didn't have anything to contribute to the scoobies. Hence, The Magic Box, where the scoobies can meet/converse/plan/whatever. For what purpose? To help Buffy in her battle against Glory, as mentioned as another arc in the previous post.
We have the Willow/Tara relationship
Okay, you have me on that one, but still. The point is that nearly everything does revolve around Buffy. Even if they aren't directly linked to Buffy or aren't even remotely linked to her, you don't have to have everything link to her in the first place. That doesn't make it...bad.

Once again, I'm not quite sure if that's what you were talking about. >.< I tried. Heh.

Well, not everything can be about Buffy. 😉

Every season has things about other characters: Xander and Anya's relationship in seasons 5 and 6, Willow's magic recovery in season 7, Faith's downward spiral in season 3, and tons of other stuff, I'm sure. If the show only focused on Buffy, it might get kind of boring. That's what supporting characters are for!

I think your statement about Buffy fighting everything this season disproves your point. The whole season is about Buffy's reactions to these things happening to her.... the sister, the lost love, the loss of her mother, and her epic battle that took her life.

The whole season was about 'Buffy'. The other developments are typical to a show.

If you didnt have arcs about the other characters, you wouldnt care about the other characters. they would just be there as buffys helpers. no story of their own. would you wanna watch that?
Buffy might as well be by herself if that was the case.

its character development. the show might be called BUFFY the Vampire Slayer, but the other characters are just as important.

buffy had some air time to her mom dying then riley leaving and spike thing and hello glory.. plus not eveything can be about buffy...there are other characters 🙂

I'd have to agree with those who say that Buffy was just as central to the story in season five as any other year.

Other than the fact that she played a major role on everything mentioned at the start of this thread, in particular the Dawn and Joyce issues, you have the fact she wanted to develop her slayer abilities, the troubles with and eventual end of her relationship with Riley, the start (kinda) of her relationship with Spike and the dealing with becoming a single mum, for all intents and purposes, for Dawn.

There was a hell of a lot of Buffy time in season five.

I think Buffy was a big part of that season but it is nice to have other characters within the show having their own sub-plots. Of course, Buffy Summers is the main character of the show but she doesn't need to be behind every episode and every plot.

She was involved alot though, she had many jobs and many things that she had to adjust to.

she had a tough time in season five everything was starting to fall apart, her bonds to the world, her mum she was left out i guess

This is possibly why Season 5 is one of my favorites. She was active in a nonactive way. All those little subplots (Dawn, Joyce, Willow/Tara) all are directly linked to her. Dawn was made because of her, Joyce is her mother, Tara died because of her. So really, it was all about her, we just didn't see her being active in the plots much...which I liked.

i thought season 5 involved Buffy quite a lot i mean yea there are all those storylines but they link back to Buffy.i mean the whole Dawn thing ended up with Buffy having to save her and that involved Buffy big time.i mean the end of season 5 was kind of about Buffy and her saving Dawn from Glory.and then you have her mum being ill and dying i mean who more than buffy is that gonna affect and involve than her,as well as Dawn obviously.then you have her situation with her and Riley.to be honest i think season 5 is one of the seasons that includes Buffy the most, more than some of the other seasons.but hey thats just my opinion lol

Buffy is the glue that holds them all together. 😉 Seriously none of those characters would have a story without her no?

I figured it was more to show how Buffy was growing as an adult.
Living in the human world without her mother, taking care of Dawn, etc.
