Buffy/Tara The Body

In The Body, when Willow Xander and Anya go to get Buffy and Dawn food, leaving Buffy sitting on the waiting room couch with Tara, why does Buffy tell Tara that she's sorry she has to go through this, to which Tara replies with "don't worry about me".

Am I forgetting something from season 5, because I'm not rewatching the season, but just the episode. Or am I missing something in the episode?

To me, it's nothing more than Buffy and Tara both being good friends to each other.

Tara has just confessed that her mother died at some point before she came to Sunnydale, that it was sudden, but then again, not sudden at all. So, logically, this would mean that Tara also had to sit in a hospital, with her family (one that she didn't get along with and who terrified her) and wait for the results of an autopsy and wait to be told when the body will be released so that they can plan the funeral. Buffy is feeling sorry and upset that Tara has to go through that, reliving those memories, just because she wants to be a good friend to Buffy.

On the other side of the discussion, Tara is telling Buffy not to waste time worrying about Tara, and to concentrate on herself and Dawn, as they are the most important things and not to worry about Tara and her feelings.

I've always loved Buffy and Tara's friendship, it seems to genuine and I this is one of my all time favorite scenes.

This is said before Tara tells Buffy her mom is dead. Although I agree with you that they have a genuine friendship

I still maintain the friendship thing. NO ONE wants to think of their friends sitting in hospital with them, comforting them, because their mother has just died. Especially when you consider that Buffy has known Tara for barely a year. If she's anything like me, Buffy would feel incredibly guilty for her friends being there for her, like she was forcing this on them against their will, especially Tara, who she has no connection to other than the fact that she's Willow's girlfriend. Buffy was just telling Xander a few weeks before how she knows nothing about Tara and doesn't feel comfortable around her.

I certainly never saw anything sinister or suspicious in that scene, I don't think that's what it was about

Ya I think Buffy is feeling bad because Tara is a recent friend and it's a hard thing putting her through this death, I think Buffy was very genuine in that scene, I love these two's friendship. I think Tara is one of the only character that Buffy is truly always honest with, and I think part of that conversation is due to that honesty that comes up when these two are around each other.

Yeah, Buffy's just apologizing to Tara for having to wait in the hospital with them.

Out of everyone that was there, Tara was the one that Buffy knew the least and also arguably the one that knew Joyce the least. Xander, Willow and Giles all knew Joyce well, and though they were there primarily to comfort Buffy and Dawn, they were also there for themselves because they too were grieving as we saw in the previous scene. So I think she is apologizing to Tara for making her come along when she doesn't really have to.

I think it's pretty obvious that Buffy is apologizing to Tara because she has to go through all this, being this "new" to the gang... I agree tho, their friendship was quite beautiful, furthermore reason to hate Tara being killed off so quickly....

I agree with [MENTION=8860]The Thirst Evil[/MENTION] [funny screenname!]. I actually think that this line itself doesn't demonstrate their friendship, but the opposite. They're newer friends, not as close as some of the others, so Buffy feels bad that Tara has to sit through it. But the rest of their conversation is nice, and in general I do like the friendship that Buffy has with Tara. I just wish it could've been developed more. Tara has such a good heart and some impressive power, and I wish her character as a whole would've been developed further.

I have to agree with a lot of the other posters.

I always thought the reason Buffy apologized to Tara was because they weren't very close at the point. Buffy felt bad thinking Tara had been dragged along by Willow.
