Buffy The Animated Series?

Not sure if this is the right place for this but a couple years ago I came across this Promo for Buffy the Animated Series on YouTube and decided to post it here and see if you guys know anything about it.

Apparently it was pitched before the second season of the original live action series was put on the air but no networks wanted it. The original actors from the TV series voiced their same characters except for SMG. It just never happened though. I rewatched it again today and had moment where I was thinking, A Buffy animated series would be awesome especially if, instead of the comics, they made it animated.

Joss would have the same ability to expand the universe and add to it without the special effect limits he had on the live action series and if they needed to, they could fill in the voice of Buffy with someone similar since SMG was finished with the series.

IDK it works in my head, but maybe I'm just sad abotu Buffy leaving the TV screen for so many years. Anyway I'll post the link below to the Promo of the 'Would-Be' Animated series and let me know what you guys think and if you think it could have worked.

I'e heard the possibility of an animated series before, and can't see how it wouldn't work, except for the one simple fact that a lot of people still associate the word "animated" with "children" when applied to a TV show, een though there are several quite successful animated shows aimed specifically at the adult audience. Of course, with Joss' schedule these days, it's doubtful that he would hae much interest in something like that, and I have my doubts whether he would be willing to turn over control of the characters to anyone else, even partially. Yeah, he's done it with the comic books, but it just isn't the same thing.

The animated series showed that Buffy had far greater powers than she had in the original series. She could jump up to a height of several balconies and drop off a dragon over a thousand feet above the ground. The legend of Buffy depends on her not having powers greater than the demons she faced and having to use her intelligence and her friends to combat evil effectively. The trailer shows a Buffy who really needs no one, needs little effort and doesn't require any courage.

I never got the idea behind Superman either. If you have enough power to squash your opponents like a bug, where's the drama?

That said, if Buffy the animated series came on, I would watch it.

Originally, Superman didn't have all of the powers that he now possesses. He was just a man whose body had evoled to live on a world with greater gravity than that of Earth, pretty much like the character who partially inspired him, Edgar Rice Burroughs' John Carter. He could lift a car and jump great distances, but that was the extent of his powers. He didn't become totally "super" until after the introduction of another character, Captain Marvel, by a competing publisher. Cap could fly and do lots of other things due to the magical source of his powers, so Superman had to possess the same powers. Without the magical element, however, the publishers never actually came up with anything to explain the source of his powers beyond the rather excuse that involved our yellow sun as opposed to Krypton's red one.

The animated Buffy's new powers were probably for pretty much for the same reason. She would be competing with traditional superheroes like Spiderman and Wonder Woman, even though her enemies wouldn't be the same, so she had to muscle up just to avoid being the weakest animated hero on TV. Just about as lame as Superman's yellow sun excuse.

I watched the promo and it was just exciting to be hearing their familiar voices (mostly) with new Buffy-related material. It's a cool concept but I can understand why none of the networks were interested. I just don't think it had the potential to be all that popular. Which, ultimately, at the end of the day is what I think they would care about.

I think an animated series would be really cool, but I am not sure, at least today, if they could keep a lot of the show's main themes. It has already been said: The demands for an animated tv series would be really high. I think keeping up with those demands could ruin what made Buffy so great in the first place: mature themes, "superhero" dependent on friends, etc..pretty much everything that's already been mentioned and more.

If a there was a Buffy animated series that attempted to stay true to the original tv series, I would definitely watch. You can do some great things with animation!

I have tried to watch it online and I like what I have seen, I am, however, a little mad that I haven't been able to find any of the episodes online from the episode list.
They are a lot of fun.
