Buffy the cougar?

Thinking back on it though, how different is that from someone who was apparently turned into a vampire in at least his early 20's if not older, sleeping with a 17 year old virgin?

Also, would it seem so "creepy" to everyone if R J had been 21 and Buffy had been 17 or 18? I've never understood the double standard, but it definitely exists, at least where I live, that an older man can have a relationship with a young girl, but reverse the genders, and the older woman becomes a cougar, whatever that means.

I think the reason the older woman becomes a "cougar" is because of the common conception (or misconception) that boys mature slower than girls and so while an older man may be at a similar maturity level to a girl 10 or so years younger than him, a younger man and an older woman may be at very different levels of maturity. Again, I'm not saying that this is always true, or even usually true, but I think it is society's perception. Although I have met many, many men who are mature at young ages (late teens/early twenties) I would feel more comfortable if I was 30 and dating a 40 year old than if I was 30 and dating a 20 year old. And as a teacher, I don't think it's ever appropriate for a teacher to date a student even if they are the same age.

Aside from all of this, I still think Buffy was the one who was taken advantage of in this situation (hence RJ putting on the jacket when she started to chew him out) and he is the sexual aggressor not she.

In some states...dating a student (regardless of their age) is illegal. Which is kind of nuts. Recently a 20 something year old teacher was arrested for sleeping with an 18 year old student. But yeah, I always found that scene somewhat disturbing haha.

Really? Wow! I know at the high school I want to, you could sleep with a teacher as long as you were 18, they just frowned upon it. Senior year, one of my friends started dating our chorus teacher who was maybe 25 or so. It was this huge thing.

Haha I think it may have been in Texas but I'm not sure. It's legal here too. It's always somewhat scandalous when that happens, which is understandable...but that's insane to make it illegal. And the age of consent in Texas is 17! It doesn't make any sense.

I really loved that episode! Just because you saw really well how Dawn is feeling about her big sister! I mean she said that she will never be a competition for Buffy! That really made me sad! Dawn thought that no matter what she is doing or trying, Buffy can beat her in every area. Boys, strength, good looking, friends...Poor Dawn. Excellent and very tragedy episode inwhich I really accuse Buffy for her handling. Danw diserved a better self-confidence and Buffy destroyed it in "Him". I really, really felt with her.
