Buffy: The Counselor

Basically, Buffy's job as a school counselor only served as a device for allowing her to check on Sawn occasionally and bring in a little comedy to the series, mostly in the episode "Him," and for introducing the characters of Robin Wood and Amanda. It also, of course, got her away from the Double Meat Palace and that ridiculous outfit and still have some sort of employment. Beyond that, it was just something new to add to the "Life And Trials Of Buffy Summers, Working Girl."
I always thought it was really weird that she'd be employed as a counselor since she has like no qualifications in that area. I don't know, but I'd have thought she'd have needed some form of training if nothing else! I didn't mind it though, I preferred her there than at the Doublemeat Palace. I just always thought it was a bit weird is all 😛

I actually bought into Woods reasoning, that because she had connected to the most troubled kids in school she would make a good guidence counselor.
Thinking more into it though, she didnt connect so much with those students as save their lives and while she has in theory saved everyone in that school because she's saved the world a lot, she didnt have the knowledge of being a good counselor because she'd never had any kind of training for it.

This, exactly. I actually thought Buffy as a counselor made a lot of sense, though, too. I would have liked to see her stick with that job; it seemed like a good fit for her.
Well it was a bit hard to buy what I mostly minded was that we never really got to see her take the job seriously or grow into it, I think Buffy has some potential - even if she wasn't qualified - and though I can see why it served a purpose to have her there, for the sake of the show, but I would have enjoyed it if they had taken her role there perhaps just a little bit more seriously.

I thought it was a stupid story at first, just because she had no qualifications, but once we learn about Wood it becomes more believable as it was to keep Buffy close to him.

This... When it first happened I was like "Why in the Hell would he offer her a job? He knows nothing about her and she has no qualifications!" but then it made a lot more sense after we found out more about who Wood really was.
I didn't like it. She has no qualification and I'm really get mad about these things, and I have some doubts about "counsellors" as a professional figure.
[MENTION=11797]ashleigh[/MENTION] I'm not talking about that 🙂 I don't really know how it works in the US, but in Italy counselling isn't a regulated profession and literaly anyone can do it (not in schools though, but privately) or open a "counselling school". I think that this should be outlawed and counselling reserved just as a psychologist's task. Not even to someone who did some psychology, just a psychologist.

Show like 'Glee' and 'Todd and the Book of Pure Evil' make counsellors look like fools. :p
