I know that this is a question that would depend on a lot of "what if's", but if Whedon or Mutant Enemy came up with a new Vampire Slayer movie/TV show, featuring a completely different cast, a different location, with none of the actors from the old show involved (something like what was done with STAR TREK and HIGHLANDER) Would you be willing to accept it on its own merits, or would you insist on having "the origonal or nothing?"
 
I would definitely watch it. If it was Whedon especially - because it's unlikely he would do a really shitty job on it or anything. That's actually probably the only way we'd get another tv show, because that would help keep costs down. Personally I like ST: TNG a lot as well as the Highlander show, so I don't see why I out of hand wouldn't like a new Buffy show. The mythology is already there and we already know it, so it would even have a better jumping off point than a totally new (non-Buffy) show.

You know what else I was thinking? What if the right guy tipped his toe in the Whedonverse? For example; What if someone like the Doctor Who guy Russel T Davies (an admitted Buffy fan) did the proposed BBC Ripper series?

JJ Abrams, Eric Kripke, even the Pallidinos...anyone like that. If they went Buffyverse, I'd watch.
 
I would definitely watch anything Joss did, I would however be worried if anyone else would step in and make something in the Buffyverse, not saying no one else can do it, and I'd would watch anything that had anything to do with the Buffyverse (probably).. I just would be worried, err.
 
N4H, i was actually thinking that if in future there is some Spin-Off, although it would be endorsed by Whedon, it probably will be someone from outside the Whedon World to do it.

I will watch any show that says it is a 'Spin Off' of Buffy or Angel, and it doesn't matter who is behind the wheel....its what the show is like that will be weather I stick or leave.

FYI, if someone told me tomorrow that Russell was leaving Dr Who to work on a Buffy related work.....i would be pissed because i think he i best suited where he is.
 
I would consider watching it. Especially if someone as talented as Joss Whedon created it. I think it would be worth watching.

Yeah I'm with ya. Then again, I'd probably watch whatever any of those people did, even if it wasn't Buffy-related 😉

I'd watch it, but I think, to a certain extent, it would fail. It would constantly be compared to BTVS, and there's just no way it could live up to it. Too many things came together in Buffy in a way that very few shows do, the chances of Joss recreating that magical scenario (or anyone for that matter) are very slim.
 
id totally watch! as people have said before me, it might not be as good or live up to btvs, but id at least give it a shot if it's buffyverse or joss! :: red ::.

It's hard (as well as downright cruel) to say that in advance. Star Trek The Next Generation was more popular, and lasted longer, than the origional, plus it was directly responsible for three more sequels. The Highlander series lasted for six seasons, inspired one new movie, and, according to their web site, has one more ready for release with two or more planned for later.

Whedon or whoever managed to revive the franchise might come up with a more popular combination than either Buffy or Angel (don't shoot me, folks, I'm just conjecturin' here). I, for one would really like for somebody to try.

For a start, how is it 'cruel' to suggest that a spin off from a phenomenon like Buffy would probably fail as it would be compared to the likes of Buffy and a lesser extent Angel?
What you fail to realise is that ANYthing with which Whedon is linked is compared to Buffy the Vampire Slayer and that in itself can be the make or break of a project.

Also, your point about Star Trek is pretty much a moot one as there was over 20 years between the shows.
TNG came off the back of the Film Run which is far easier to secure a loyal NEW audience and studio backing then a recent TV show that was possibly cancelled.
If we were having this conversation in(at least) 10 years time, or after a magnificently critically acclaimed movie that raked in the money, then maybe there would be some credence to it, however as it stands, the TV channels are filled with shows, some fans are getting tired with the wares being peddled by Whedon and the loyal ones would be extremely hard on ANYTHING that comes that is based on Buffy...even more so if Whedon hasn't got much involvement.

I partially disagree with this too. The original Buffy was the best. If there was (and there won't) a new Buffy-based show, though it might not completely fail, would never be as popular. And I really feel like (my opinion... don't hurt me please) Star Trek really has no place in this.
 
I would definitely watch it! If Whedon did it I have 100% faith it would be good, there isn't anything that man has made that I didn't like!

And Angel was a spin-off of Buffy (I know it had some of the Buffy cast) but it managed to last, and even had higher ratings for it's finale then Buffy did!

:looking: Talk about sullying a conversation. I wonder how 'more popular' is calculated. Viewing figures over increased population over viewing opportunity over increased distribution over increased material.

I dislike Star Trek in all its forms so I find it hard to understand your point. I don't appreciate anything as preachy as StarTrek and find it hard to relate to Buffy: The next generation.

I only read the first couple posts. I think Rob Duncan would do a good job in the buffy world. Whedon loves Veronica Mars, and VM has definately become my Buffy substitute. There isnt any supernatural, but its just as witty and entertaining as buffy ever was.
 
You mean Rob Thomas, right? Robert Duncan wrote the Chosen soundtrack.

But yeah. I'd watch that.
 
I would watch it but it would prolly just make me miss the original more.::crying2:
