Buffy the Stripper?

What's up with Buffy changing her clothes infront of Angel, Xander, and Spike in her bedroom with just a phrase of "turn around"? I'm talking pre-relationship status instances...I can't remember specific eps but they exist. Any opinions?

Why not? I've never been a modest person and I won't even ask people to turn around. I'll announce I'm going to change so they can turn around if they so choose but it's not for me, it's for them. Why wouldn't Buffy change with them turned around? What's wrong with that? In marching band, we all changed in front of each other because the marching band wasn't important enough to our school to use the locker rooms. And at competition sites, bathrooms were often way too small for a band of our size so we had to change in front of the opposite sex. If you had a problem with it, you went to the bathroom and risked being late and that was how it went. Most of the time a select group a freshman would be like "eww" and then be late a couple times and then just give up and not care anymore by the end of the first few weeks. Maybe one or two people ACTUALLY cared all the way through high school. And we always asked the same question "Why should they care?" And I will ask that question about Buffy here... Why should she care? Why is that a problem? What's wrong with changing in front of the opposite sex? ESPECIALLY if their back is turned?

I personally don't care...but I'm curious to know the opinions on it cause I know some people would have a problem with a 16 yr old girl changing infront of a mysterious grown man she met on the street 😛 ...just saying

Yeah, I don't think it's a big deal. She was never naked, and I see no harm them seeing her in her underwear. For me, that's like swimsuit 😀

The time she did it in front of Xander she had already called him (to his face) "You are completely and utterly one of the girls". She viewed him as nonthreatening. And let's face it, she would have had his arms broken before he could even think of touching her.

As for Angel, it was a case of her not being able to allow him to leave for fear of his attack, and needing to maintain normality so her mother wouldn't suspect something was up. On top of that she had a significant level of trust with Angel (Xander too), he had just saved her life. So, I don't really see her changing in front of either of them as a wanton or reckless action by Buffy.

I don't recall any instance whilst Buffy was a teenager where she changed or was in a state of undress in front of Spike.

Just because someone saves my life, I wouldn't want to take my clothes off in front of them... but that's just me. 😛 As for Zo's post, I'd definitely have been one of those who'd have remained having a problem with it all through the years... actually, just reading her post makes me feel a bit awkward already. :sigh:

Still, I don't see the big deal about Buffy doing it... I guess it would have been a big deal to me if she hadn't said "turn around", but as it stands, I just think she's an extravert while I'm not. 😉 I've known enough people like that in real life (including in our drama club in school), so even if I couldn't be like that myself, it doesn't surprise/worry/confuse me at all.

I don't see anything wrong with Buffy just asking them to turn around. It wasn't like she was going to be completely naked or anything; she still had underwear on, which covers more than some swimsuits do. She just trusted them to be gentleman enough to honor her request to turn around and not look... Of course Xander DID peek using a mirror, but that's beside the point. 😉

I like the scene where Spike comes into Buffy's bedroom after finding out about Riley's vampire whores, to tell her about it, and she's naked under the cover, she wants him to turn around so she could put on some clothes, and Spike says, "Like I give a damn!" about her nakedness, and when he turns around he's like, "Oh, my god, oh my god, oh my god. Buffy is naked behind me!"

I like to think of it not as Buffy the Stripper but as Buffy the self-confident, busy, strong as heck lady who doesn't really care what anyone thinks about her body anyway. 🙂

I used to change in front of my guy friends all the time, I'd just be like ok I'm going to change and whip off my shirt. I don't think its that big of a deal. I agree it may be a little odd with Angel because of the age difference. I don't think at 16 I would have. But she did like him lol.

I agree with the "underwear is like a bathing suit thing." However, I was raised in an extremely pro-modesty family (yeah, yeah I live in the bible belt) and my daddy would have killed the boy and grounded me for the remainder of my adolescence if I ever dared to change in front of a boy. My personal, adult view on the matter is pretty neutral.

I don't see the big deal. I change in front of my (male and female) friends all the time. If they want to turn their back, they can, but I'm not announcing that I'm changing or anything. I haven't met anyone outside of sixth grade swimming class who was bothered by changing in front of others/having others change in front of them. Of course, it could just be a case of values dissonance here, but going by other replies to this thread, I'm guessing not. 😉

I think it's basically a confidence thing. A lot of people have no problem and don't even think about it, changing in front of others as long as they don't get nude. Some has no problem with that either. While others do their outmost to "hide away" if possible.

That it wasn't a problem for Buffy doesn't surprise me at all.

^ lol, well when you put it that way.....it sounds a little creepy.

But in all seriousness, I didn't see the big deal. She needed to change so she asked them to turn around. She wasn't naked and she could definitely protect herself. Sorta seemed like the easiest thing to do in each situation.

Just saying, trusting someone with my life and trusting someone with my (almost) nekkid body are two very different things for me... and if you're me, the latter is much harder than the former.

Considering I usually only change when going to bed, swimming, exercising, partying or into my uniform and it's kind of expect to change for that, yeah. I simply don't see any reason to in these kinds of situation. It's not like I take my clothes off for no reason in the middle of the street. 😉

I think that Buffy did not have a problem of changing in front of them because she trusted them, also as said before if they DID try anything she could beaat them up. Also she probley felt comfertable in her skin and was not embaressed. I change in fornt of people at school, camp, friend's homes and church but its not like I am prancing around in my underware. All she is doing is changing. Its not that big of a deal.
