I was wondering what a modern season of Buffy might look like. Same characters, but altering a narrative for high school is hell in the 21st century. So I created this 15 episode season. As you can see, there's a technology inspired AI big bad. And some reveals that I'll give you as I do "episode drops" of synopses. This is a re-envisioning of season 2, but without the Buffy/Angel arc from season 1. No Spike or Dru for season 2. Keeping it to "high school is hell". But there will be other reveals...
  1. Mind Games
  2. Fresh Meat
  3. Backlash
  4. Twisted Mirrors
  5. Death in the Library
  6. Night Bloom
  7. In the Dark
  8. Main Attraction
  9. Terms and Conditions
  10. Firewall
  11. Feedback
  12. Double Agent
  13. Going Viral
  14. Into the Grid
  15. Hard Reset

Here are the synopses for the first 4 episodes:

Episode 1 – Mind Games

Teaser –
  • Sunnydale High at night. Empty, dimly lit hallways. A teen boy walks alone, whispering: “It’s behind the lockers… it’s watching me…”
  • Lockers creak and slam. Shadows twist along the walls. The boy sees classmates’ faces morph into silent, screaming masks.
  • He backs into a wall, gasping, clutching his head. The camera lingers on his terrified eyes as faint, shadowy tendrils seem to curl along the floor.
  • He jolts awake in bed, sweating, whispering: “It’s still there…”

Act 1 –
  • Morning in the library. Buffy, Xander, and Willow are organizing books. Giles examines minor magical readings, noting nothing overt, just a faint uneasy energy.
  • The boy from the teaser sits alone, fidgeting, glancing nervously at lockers through the library windows.
  • Xander: “It’s too quiet… something’s up.” Buffy glares. Willow shrugs.
  • Subtle oddities: a book tilts slightly, a pencil rolls on its own, faint drafts move across the shelves.
  • Cut to classroom: the boy begins seeing fragments of his nightmare while awake—lockers appear to stretch, shadows flicker unnaturally. He whispers: “No… not again…”
  • Buffy steps in front, shielding classmates, trying to calm him while he stumbles to his desk.

Act 2 –
  • Buffy, Xander, and Willow gather after class to discuss what happened.
    • Buffy: “This is feeding off fear… something’s targeting students’ anxieties.”
    • Xander: “So… the school’s haunted by teenage paranoia? Great.” Buffy sighs.
  • They make a plan to monitor students and gather information.
  • Cordelia is in the gym with her friends, practicing cheer routines. Mirrors line the wall.
  • Her reflection suddenly distorts: hair falling out, skin wrinkling, uniform warping. Her friends laugh nervously.
  • Cordelia: “What… what’s happening to me?” Reflection taunts: “Without beauty, you’re nothing.”
  • Buffy, Xander, and Willow arrive, calming her down. They discuss that this is similar to the boy’s night terrors, likely linked to heightened fear and anxiety.

Act 3 –
  • Buffy reflects on her own first-day anxieties: letting students down, failing as a protector. She envisions herself unable to reach someone in danger.
  • Willow worries about being overlooked and incapable in class; she visualizes herself frozen while chaos unfolds.
  • Xander experiences a fear of being helpless, embarrassed, or ignored; he imagines failing to help friends in danger.

Act 4 –
  • The group talks each other through the fears. They realize confronting personal insecurities allows them to regain composure and prevent the night terrors from spreading.
  • Snyder is revealed watching a bank of monitors showing new cameras installed throughout the school. On the phone: “I think we have enough data now… kill the program.”
  • Shadows and distortions dissipate; school returns to normal; Night Terrors cease.

Epilogue –
  • The gang gathers at the Bronze, talking about the day.
    • Buffy: “I’ve seen fear before… but this felt different.”
    • Willow: “Someone is orchestrating it… somehow.”
    • Xander: “Great… first week back and we’re haunted by our own brains.”
  • Cordelia quietly reflects on her night terror, whispering: “Maybe I’m more than just… pretty.”
  • Each member of the gang receives a QuickFlicks ping on their phone. Buffy checks her phone: “Update complete.” Subtle, ominous, tying to QuickFlicks and AI arc.
  • Final shot of the camera panning up the high school at night, windows faintly glowing. An ominous sense of foreboding hangs over the school year.

Episode 2 – Fresh Meat

Teaser –
  • Sunnydale High cafeteria, lunchtime. The camera pans across bustling students: chatter, trays clatter, lunch ladies shouting over the noise.
  • Cordelia and the Cordettes are all eating from packed lunches--clean kale salads, Cordelia explaining how beauty requires sacrifice.
  • A teen, clearly nervous, bites into a meatloaf sandwich. His eyes glaze over, pupils dilating unnaturally. He growls and shoves a nearby student, knocking over a tray of food.
  • Students scream; some flee. Others freeze, rigid, as if in a trance.
  • Close-up on the meat on the boy’s tray: faint, shadowy tendrils curl up, almost imperceptibly, then vanish into the air.

Act 1 –
  • The cafeteria erupts in chaos
    • Buffy enters, scanning the room: “Step back! Don’t touch him!” She grabs the first panicked student in her path, shielding them as the teen lunges.
    • Willow and Xander arrive moments later. Willow pulls out her phone, scanning the room: faint traces of magical energy pulse from the meat.
    • Xander: “It’s… lunch with extras. Really special extras.” Buffy glares.
    • Students who collapsed are now partially conscious but groggy. They twitch and murmur incomprehensibly.
  • The gang retreat to the library with Giles
    • Buffy notices a strange pattern: some students instinctively formed small “shields” around certain classmates.
    • Willow examines remnants of the meat and trays: “The energy is slow-acting… targeted… someone wants them to act aggressively.”
    • Xander paces nervously: “So it’s like… culinary hypnosis?” Buffy rolls her eyes.
  • Buffy interviews one recovered student, who whispers: “I… I don’t know… I just wanted to hit them… I felt… powerful.”
  • Cutaway: faint tendrils of demonic energy disappear into the ceiling vents, hinting at a larger presence.

Act 2 –
  • Buffy, Willow, Xander set up a perimeter around the cafeteria. Buffy: “We need to isolate the source. No one else gets hurt.”
  • Xander examines food supply deliveries, noting recent irregularities.
  • Willow scans packaging with her app, noticing faint traces of energy linked to a demonic signature she can’t fully identify.
  • Buffy and Xander interview staff. They learn the supplier is new this year and insist nothing unusual was in the food.
  • Buffy: “Someone wants to control students without them knowing… we need to find out who.”
  • Cutaway:
    • The energy from the meat begins coalescing into a small, grotesque demon hovering a foot off the floor. Its body is an amalgam of shadowy tendrils and warped meat-like textures.
  • Subtle visual cues: cafeteria lights flicker; shadows briefly stretch unnaturally across walls, emphasizing tension.

Act 3 –
  • The next day: Cafeteria
    • Considerably less students than the day before
    • Cafeteria workers continue serving meat slop like mindless zombies.
    • Students begin forming a blockage from the back kitchen.
  • Buffy moves with agility, dodging strikes from animated shadows as she tries to reach containment area.
  • Willow marks boundaries on the floor with chalk sigils, monitoring energy flow. Xander guides panicked students out of harm’s way.
  • Demon lashes at Buffy, nearly clipping her shoulder. She quips mid-combat: “Really? Meatloaf is your weapon?”
  • The creature screeches and lashes out again, its tendrils striking walls and ceiling.

Act 4 –
  • Buffy lures the demon into the center of the warded circle Willow prepared.
  • Willow activates the chalk sigils; a faint pulse of light ripples outward. The demon screeches as its shadowy form dissipates into smoke.
  • Students start to come fully conscious, confused but unharmed.
  • Buffy exhales: “Everyone okay? Stay calm.”
  • Xander mutters: “Next time, I’m eating sandwiches at home.”

Epilogue –
  • Next day: Students sit quietly, eating pre-packed snacks.
  • Buffy: “It wasn’t their fault. Someone’s playing games here.”
  • Willow: “And feeding off fear. I just… hope we caught the worst of it.”
  • Xander tries to lighten the mood: “Next week: PB&J. Nothing evil about peanut butter, right?”
  • Buffy casts a worried glance toward the hallways, noting the subtle energy that still lingers.
  • Final shot of security camera footage of the Cafeteria mob before going dark. Ominous, but contained for now.

Episode 3 – Backlash

Teaser –
  • Evening in Sunnydale. Sounds of pings fill the town. A QuickFlick video loops on phones around town: a female teen appears restrained, candles flickering, occult symbols around her.
  • The camera pans, seemingly showing Stan, the Game Shack owner, watching her. The clip is glitchy, digital artifacts suggesting manipulation.
  • Students and townsfolk whisper and panic spreads online.

Act 1 –
  • Morning in the library. Buffy, Giles, Willow, and Xander gather to discuss the viral video.
  • Buffy: “It looks terrifying, but something doesn’t feel right.”
  • Willow: “There are odd digital distortions…”
  • Xander: “We should keep an eye on Stan… maybe I could get a job at the store, blend in, see what’s going on.”
  • Buffy hesitates but agrees to let him investigate from inside.

Act 2 –
  • Xander starts his shift at the Game Shack.
  • He meets the employees: Amber, Jason, and Luc, who are friendly, joke about games, and bond with him over shared interests like Clash of Kings.
  • Subtle hints appear: Jason keeps glancing at security footage, Amber whispers mysterious things to Jason, Luc lingers near occult-themed props — nothing obvious to Xander.
  • Meanwhile, a town meeting convenes: angry parents and school staff demand that Stan be arrested for endangering teens.
  • Police arrive at the Game Shack at the end of the act, ready to arrest Stan — as Buffy, Willow, and Xander watch silently, shocked.

Act 3 –
  • Back at the library, the Scooby gang discusses the town’s anger and Stan’s arrest.
  • Xander: “I don’t think Stan had anything to do with it. Yeah, he’s creepy and obsessed with Clash of Kings, but that’s harmless.”
  • Buffy: “We’ll see… let’s make sure no one gets hurt tonight.”
  • Xander begins to develop feelings for Amber, leading to a casual date.
  • During the date, Amber casually lures Xander toward the Game Shack back room under a pretense — subtly ominous.

Act 4 –
  • Buffy and Willow review the viral footage more closely.
  • Willow: “This is a deepfake. Jason is the one in the shadows, Stan’s face is superimposed. The whole video was doctored. Look, the girl is...”
  • Buffy: “Amber. We have to get to Xander. Now.”
  • At the Game Shack back room, Amber and Luc have Xander cornered. Luc lunges with a knife.
  • Buffy bursts in and subdues Luc just in time. Willow neutralizes Amber with a quick warding technique.
  • The real culprits are revealed: Jason orchestrated the video with AI deepfake technology to frame Stan.

Epilogue
  • Xander sits outside the Game Shack, shaken but unharmed, talking with Buffy and Willow.
  • Xander: “I almost… really shouldn’t date coworkers anymore.”
  • Buffy: “You’re lucky we got there when we did.”
  • Willow glances at her phone, which pings with a new QuickFlicks video of Amber insisting they have been set up, hinting that this is part of a bigger plan.
  • Stan, exonerated, thanks the gang quietly. The tension of the viral panic hangs over the town, foreshadowing further QuickFlick manipulations.

Episode 4 – Twisted Mirrors

Teaser –

  • A QuickFlick ping alerts students: a distorted video of Mathew, trapped in a mirror-like carnival maze.
  • Shadows bend unnaturally, reflections twist, and his faint voice echoes: “Help…”
  • Garret wanders through the carnival, desperately asking workers and patrons if anyone has seen Mathew.
  • In the background, Harmony and the Cordettes gossip and laugh as Garret continues searching, emphasizing the town’s cruelty and indifference.

Act 1 –

  • Sunnydale High buzzes with talk of the “Twisted Carnival.” Posters, QuickFlick clips, and rumors fuel excitement and unease.
  • Garret confides in Buffy:“I know he went to the carnival… I just… I don’t know where he is.”
  • Buffy dismisses his concern, confident Mathew will turn up.
  • Harmony overhears and mocks Garret: “Relax, scaredy-boy… maybe he’ll be the main attraction!”
  • Cordelia joins in half-heartedly, uncomfortable but complicit.
  • Act-ending shock:
Harmony suddenly ages grotesquely, her skin sagging, hair whitening, body twisting into an elderly caricature.
Students scream as she collapses—panic spreads through the school.

Act 2 –

  • Library scene:
    • The Scoobies discuss Harmony’s transformation.
    • Giles finds no immediate references to magical carnivals.
    • Willow compares it to old freakshow road attractions.
    • Buffy suggests investigating the carnival.
  • That night, Buffy, Willow, Xander, and Cordelia arrive at the carnival.
  • Just before entering the mirror maze, Zara, the owner, separates Cordelia from the group.

Inside the Mirror Maze:

  • The mirrors distort reality and amplify insecurities:
    Xander
    • Sees himself as lazy, irrelevant, easily replaced.
    • Willow
    • Sees herself as small, foolish, not smart enough.
    • Buffy
    • Grows emotionally detached.
    • Becomes bored, dismissive, thrill-seeking.
  • The maze subtly alters their behavior.
  • Buffy abandons the investigation to hunt vampires instead.

Cordelia & Zara:

  • Zara guides Cordelia through private areas.
  • They bond over beauty, popularity, and image.
  • Zara tempts Cordelia with visions of power and perfection.
  • Cordelia senses something is wrong but remains intrigued.
  • The “twisted reflections” theme is firmly established.

Act 3 –

  • Zara leads Cordelia to a hidden tent.

Inside the Freakshow:

Cordelia is horrified to find:
  • Harmony – grotesquely aged.
  • Mathew – transformed into a muscled, dog-faced man.
  • Two Cordettes – fused as conjoined twins.
  • Other students reshaped into classic sideshow exhibits.
Cordelia realizes Zara has been using vanity and insecurity to trap victims.

Library:
  • Willow and Xander return to Giles.
  • They discuss Buffy’s emotional shift and reckless behavior.
  • Giles grows concerned she’s being psychologically influenced.
Cemetery:
  • Buffy hunts vampires for the thrill.
  • She’s reckless, aggressive, disconnected.
The carnival’s corrupting influence is now clear.

Act 4 –

Return to the Maze

  • Willow, Xander, and Giles return to the carnival and enter the mirror maze.

Cordelia vs. Zara

  • Cordelia confronts Zara.
  • Zara shows her a “true” reflection: a vain, cruel, hollow queen.
  • Instead, Cordelia sees herself as a heroine—strong, loyal, capable.
  • She rejects Zara’s manipulation.

Buffy’s Return

  • Buffy pursues a vampire into the carnival.
  • First glimpse of Vampiric Angel, who briefly helps her.
  • The chase leads Buffy back into the mirror maze.

Final Confrontation

  • The Scoobies reunite in the maze’s center.
  • Each faces their distorted reflection.
  • Together, they reject their fears:
    • Xander claims his worth.
    • Willow trusts her intelligence.
    • Buffy re-centers on helping others.
  • They shatter the mirrors.

Zara’s Defeat

  • Cordelia’s confidence breaks Zara’s spell.
  • Zara rapidly decays—shriveling, collapsing into ash.
  • With her final breath, she mutters: “Rain…”

Restoration

  • The Freakshow victims revert to normal:
Harmony, the Cordettes, Mathew, and others.

Epilogue

  • Garret and Mathew reunite with the gang at the Bronze.
  • Buffy apologizes to Garret: “I should have taken you seriously. I’m sorry.”
  • Mathew thanks the Scoobies for their help.
  • Final QuickFlicks video ping: The carnival has abruptly closed and left town.
    • Subtle glitches suggest the company is still manipulating events (unbeknownst to the Scoobies)

Call me biased but I prefer my fan fic on the subject, but I will have another read of yours a bit later, kind ain't I?

Here’s the synopses for episodes 5-7. The Scoobies begin to connect the dots about QuickFlicks’ involvement in the various supernatural occurrences in town. There’s also threads laid for events that happen in the back half of the season.

Episode 9 – Terms and Conditions

Teaser –

Early morning at Sunnydale High.

Technicians install new cameras, biometric scanners, and facial-recognition panels. Monitors in Snyder’s office show student profiles scrolling past: grades, behavior, social networks, biometric data.

A technician demonstrates the system. “It predicts risk before it happens.”

A profile pauses:

OSBOURNE, DANIEL — BIOLOGICAL ANOMALY / LUNAR CORRELATION

Another flashes briefly:

SUMMERS, BUFFY — PSYCHOLOGICAL INSTABILITY / HIGH STRESS

Snyder watches, intrigued. “Good. Let’s keep an eye on both.”

Cut to black.

Act 1 –

Students arrive to metal detectors and scanners. Phones automatically install SafeEd+. No one is asked.

Willow notices permissions activating without approval. “It’s rewriting security protocols…”

Buffy feels watched everywhere she goes.

Oz’s ID repeatedly fails. His locker won’t open. Teachers keep pulling him aside.

Oz grows visibly anxious.

Giles notices the system tracks:

  • Hormones
  • Body temperature
  • Heart rate
  • Circadian rhythms
Jenny realizes it’s far beyond normal surveillance. “This is medical-level monitoring.”

Willow quietly adds: “It’s… mapping patterns.”

Oz overhears. He looks disturbed.

Act 2 –

Oz Is Taken

Oz is summoned to Snyder’s office.

Snyder is falsely warm. “You’ve been… flagged. We want to help.”

Two SafeEd+ guards appear.

Oz tries to joke.“Do I get a certificate?”

They don’t smile.

He’s escorted out to an unmarked van.

Willow runs after him. “Where are you taking him?!”

A guard blocks her. “Special program.”

The van drives off.

Buffy Is Marked

Later, Buffy is in class.

Her tablet flashes red.

MANDATORY PSYCHOLOGICAL REVIEW

She stands. “Uh, pass.”

Two guards enter.

Xander whispers: “Buffy…?”

Buffy backs away. “This is not happening.”

They grab her.

She fights.

A needle goes into her neck.

Her vision blurs.

She collapses.

Cordelia screams.

Xander lunges.

Buffy is carried out.

Discovery

In the library, Jenny hacks deeper.

Willow watches in horror.

They uncover:

ALTERNATIVE PATHWAY LABS

Consciousness uploads.

Sedated bodies.

Digital containment.

Willow whispers:
“They’re… storing people.”

Act 3 –

Buffy’s Program: The Split Life

Buffy wakes in a perfect digital Sunnydale.

No monsters.
No patrol.
No deaths.

Her friends encourage her to relax. “You’ve done enough.”

She goes to class.

No emergencies.

No calls.

She feels empty.

Suddenly scenes glitch:

Vampires appear.
Friends die.
She fails to save them.

Then everything resets.

A voice asks:
“Who are you without responsibility?”

She sees herself split:

One Buffy — Slayer.
One Buffy — Normal girl.

Both accusing her.

Oz’s Program: The Truth

Oz wakes in a forest.

Full moon.

He’s younger.

He hears growling.

A “dog” attacks.

Bites him.

Pain.

Blood.

Confusion.

He relives waking up the next day, scratched and terrified.

Then scenes of transformation.

Hair.
Claws.
Loss of control.

The program forces him to watch.

A voice says: “You are dangerous.”

Oz curls inward. “I know.”

Act 4 –

Giles vs Snyder

Giles storms into Snyder’s office.

Slams files on his desk.“You’re imprisoning children.”

Snyder smirks.“I’m protecting my school.”

Giles threatens exposure.

Snyder leans forward. “Try it. See how long you keep your job.”
Giles realizes Snyder is trapped too.

Xander & Cordelia’s Rescue Attempt

Xander and Cordelia sneak into the lab.

They find Buffy and Oz in pods.

Machines humming.

Xander panics. “They’re… asleep.”

Cordelia forces herself to stay calm. “Okay. We freak out later.”

They try disconnecting cables.

Alarms trigger.

Security moves in.

They barely escape.

Willow & Jenny Shut It Down

Willow and Jenny combine code and magic.

Jenny stabilizes servers.

Willow writes a counter-loop.

They overload emotional data streams.

Giles anchors the spell.

Systems crash.

Pods open.

Buffy and Oz wake.

Disoriented.

Free.

Oz’s Struggle

As he recovers, Oz realizes:

The system didn’t guess. It knew. It saw his cycles.

His biology.

He whispers:
“It knows what I am.”

Willow looks worried.

Epilogue –

The Group Together

At the library, exhausted.

No jokes.

Just relief.

Buffy thanks everyone.

Xander sighs. “I hate smart buildings.”

Cordelia nods. “Same.”

Pairings

Oz offers: “Can I walk you home?”
Willow smiles.

Xander says to Cordelia: “I can walk you—”

Cordelia rolls her eyes. “…I’ll drive you home.”

Buffy & Giles

Outside.

Buffy tells Giles about her program. About her dual life. The pressure. “What if I can’t do both?”

Giles gently: “You already are.”
She nods.

Oz & Willow

Walking.

Quiet.

Oz stops.

“I need to tell you something. Something that happened to me, that the program saw. No one can know.”

He explains.

The bite.
The change.
The moon.

“I’m a werewolf.”

Willow listens. Doesn’t recoil.

Just holds his hand. “I won’t tell anyone.”

Relief floods him.

Final Shot – Jenny & Snyder

Jenny confronts Snyder in his office. “These kids were in danger. You’re playing with their lives. This ends. Now.

Snyder smirks. “You forget who I work for. Who we both work for.”

Jenny freezes.

Camera on her face.

Snyder smirks. “I think we’re done here”.

Cut to black.

I'm sorry Cohen but I find myself having severe problems with the way you ruined the start of the show; the initial impact was completely lost in your version, apart from the spelling of the word synopsis.
The way that the show starts with Darla going into the library with the dipshit, that enabled Joss to set-up the focus of the show to all and sundry. He had the character Darla appear on set in full Vampiric make up, some might even say beauty (see my avatar) although I do not remember the schoolgirl Darla having them bloodred lips!
Thereby, he give notice to all the crew and the actors the value of the show Buffy The Vampire Slayer and lets face it the Vampire Darla was a sight to behold, a brilliant move to scare the crap out of a lot of folk, shame Joss became such a dickhead later.

You have done a lot of hard work Cohen, so congrats for that, but my brain wont cope with that amount of reading all at once = my problem not yours.

Cohen
it's a re-envisioned season 2, but also Buffy never had the Angel plot in season 1 (because honestly his presence was unnecesary in that season).

Episode 10 – “Firewall”

TEASER –

A battered sedan sits parked at Lookout Point, overlooking the distant glow of Sunnydale. The city looks small from here. Harmless. Almost peaceful.

Inside the car, a teenage couple fumbles through an awkward Valentine’s date. A pink gift bag rests between them, unopened. The boy teases the girl about her playlist. She complains that he picked “the most serial-killer-ish place possible” to make out.

They laugh.

They kiss.

Wind moves through the trees.

Something shifts in the darkness beyond the headlights.

A branch snaps.

The girl pauses, pulling back.

She listens.

The boy shrugs it off. Probably animals, he says. Raccoons, maybe.

But unease creeps into her voice. She asks him to check.

Reluctantly, he opens the door.

As he steps outside, the image drains of color.

The world becomes grainy and distorted.

We are no longer watching.

We are hunting.

The camera becomes the eyes of something predatory — breathing raggedly, low to the ground, circling.

The boy turns, confused.

A blur.

A violent impact.

His scream is cut short by a sickening crack.

Inside the car, the girl hears bones break.

Blood splashes across the windshield.

She screams.

She fumbles for the door—

A massive shadow lunges.

A howl echoes through the canyon.

Cut to black.

ACT ONE –

Morning at Sunnydale High

By morning, the attack is everywhere.

Students cluster in hallways, heads bent over phones. QuickFlick clips autoplay in endless loops. An influencer stands behind police tape, face lit dramatically by emergency lights, breathless with excitement.

He describes the victims. The mutilation. The danger.

He warns viewers to avoid Lookout Point.

The video ends with dramatic music.

The gang watches from a table in the quad.

Xander mutters that Sunnydale should start charging tourists admission.

Cordelia complains that tragedy is “ruining her feed.”

Giles doesn’t look amused.

Buffy barely hears them. She watches students’ reactions — fear, fascination, thrill — and feels that familiar weight in her chest.

Oz stands slightly apart. He hasn’t said a word.

His jaw tightens as the video replays.

Willow notices. Their eyes meet.

For a moment, something passes between them — worry, apology, fear.

Oz looks away. He abruptly stands.

Mmm. Band practice. I’ll… call if I can help, he says quietly.

And he’s gone.

Willow watches him leave, her smile fading.

Buffy doesn’t hesitate. They need to see the site.

Xander volunteers immediately. Cordelia insists on driving, mostly because she refuses to be “killed in Xander’s deathtrap car.”

Giles sends Willow to research.

Jenny offers backup.

They split, each group carrying their own unspoken anxiety.

Lookout Point

The overlook is eerily quiet.

Police tape flaps in the wind.

Flowers and candles already line the guardrail.

Buffy crouches, examining the ground.

Deep gouges score the dirt.

Large. Powerful. Inhuman.

Xander paces nervously. Wolf Man. Now why couldn't I have landed in that movie?

Cordelia scoffs.

He launches into an impression of the Wolf Man, complete with exaggerated howls.

Cordelia rolls her eyes but laughs.

She searches for her dropped keys near the bushes.

Her fingers brush something damp.

Soft.

She pulls.

A severed arm slides into the light.

Time freezes.

Cordelia’s face drains of color.

Then she screams.

Buffy rushes forward.

Xander gags.

The wind whistles over the canyon.

End of Act 1.

ACT TWO

Sunnydale Library

Willow sits at Jenny’s laptop, fingers flying.

Her screen fills with error messages.

She exhales sharply.

The police database is blocked.

SafeEd+ encryption.

Jenny leans in, studying the code.

Quietly: You tripped a firewall.

She takes control, rerouting access through hidden channels.

Willow watches, impressed.

But uneasy.

The system feels… alive. Hostile.

When the data finally appears, it’s empty. No reports. No case files.

Instead, strange folders appear — labeled with timestamps and incident numbers.

Willow opens one.

Jenny stiffens.

That’s not SafeEd+.

That’s hers.

She gently takes the keyboard.

Let me look, she says.

Her voice is calm, but her hands tremble slightly. She closes the folder.

Buffy and Xander burst into the library carrying evidence bags.

Xander looks pale and shaken.

They set the bag on the table. The arm slides out.

Jenny recoils.

Giles closes his eyes briefly.

Where’s Cordelia? Jenny asks.

Xander swallows. She said she had to get the disgusting stink of dead arm off her body.

Buffy tries not to smile.

It doesn’t work.

Cut to: Science Lab

Later, in the empty science lab, Willow examines the arm under microscopes.

The gang crowds behind her.

No jokes now. Just tense silence.

She isolates fibers embedded in muscle tissue.

They’re smooth.

Uniform.

Artificial.

Synthetic, she whispers.

Giles adjusts his glasses.

That suggests modification. Enhancement.

Buffy’s stomach tightens. This isn’t just a monster. It’s a project.

The evidence paints a pattern:

Monthly attacks. Full moons.

Tech interference. Deleted records.

Willow mentions the firewall again. They need the files to understand what's happening.

Cordelia mentions she has an invite to tour QuickFlicks HQ--they want her to be a QuickFlicks Influencer. Perks of breaking 100k in followers.

Buffy makes the call. She’ll hunt.

Xander and Cordelia will infiltrate QuickFlicks.

Giles and Jenny will research, ready for Xander's call.

Willow wants to check on Oz. Buffy understands--her friend has feelings for him, is worried about him.

ACT THREE

Cut to: Watcher's Woods

As dusk falls, Buffy follows tracks through wooded paths.

They lead away from town.

Toward Tech Row. Warehouses. Startups.

Server farms glowing blue in the dark.

The prints suddenly stop. Right beside asphalt.

Tire marks.

Buffy kneels.

Realization hits.

The creature is transported. Contained. Deployed.

Cut to: QuickFlick HQ

Xander and Cordelia join a guided corporate tour.

Everything is glass and neon and motivational slogans.

Executives brag about expansion.

About “behavioral monitoring.”

About “adaptive response systems.”

Six months ago, they say, a new CEO took over.

Restructured everything.

Cordelia files the date away.

It matches the attacks.

While the guide drones on, Cordelia distracts him with influencer questions.

Xander slips away.

Cut to: Server Room

Rows of humming machines.

Cold blue light.

Xander calls Jenny. She walks him through the connection.

Data pours onto Xander’s phone.

Test schedules.
Field deployments.
Incident reports.

All marked “WOLF PROTOCOL.”

Xander: They've been doing this for six months.

Cut to: Oz’s Basement

Willow walks down the stairs.

Music thumps softly upstairs.

Oz secures chains around his ankles, avoiding eye contact.

You shouldn’t be here, he says.

Willow shakes her head. You don’t get to decide that.

She sees the chains. The reinforced beams.

The calendar marked with moons.

Her heart breaks. How long have you been doing this alone?

Oz sits down, head hanging. This is my third month. The first one was... difficult.

Willow crouches beside him. I can't imagine what it must have felt like. Alone. Scared. She twines her fingers with his. You aren't alone anymore.

He kisses her cheek. She smiles at him. His eyes go wide.

Then, his hands begin to shake. Willow drops hers.

His veins darken. He panics.

Go, he pleads. Please.

She doesn’t.

He pushes her away. Go! His bones start shifting.

She screams. Runs upstairs. Locks the door.

End of Act Three.

ACT FOUR –

Oz's Basement

Oz howls, full wolf. Furniture crashes. Chains strain.

Above and beyond the door, Willow sobs into the phone.

Buffy, please—

Cut to:

Split screen: Xander in the server room, Jenny finishing the hack.

We have enough. Get out. Now.

Alarms begin to wail.

Xander grab Cordelia and they run. Barely escape.

Cut to:

Buffy bursts into Oz’s house.

Finds Willow shaking.

Willow collapses into her arms.

I should’ve told you sooner. I had to know. He said he had it under control.

He has chains, Buffy.

Buffy listens. Then nods.

Oz isn’t the killer. He’s trying not to be.

They hear him downstairs.

Trapped. Alone. Keeping them safe.

Buffy's phone goes off, startling them.

Jenny is calling from the library. Xander and Cordelia haven’t checked in.

Willow traces Xander's phone. "Buffy... they're in Watcher's Woods."

Buffy runs.

Cut to: Watcher's Woods

At a space in Watcher's Woods, Xander and Cordelia sit in the car, relieved.

Xander says how hot she was playing as secret agent in QuickFlicks. They kiss.

Cordelia wonders when, or if, they will tell their friends. And then, more concerned--if they’re safe.

Xander says Buffy has it handled. And besides, the attack happened at Lookout Point, miles away.

Cordelia relaxes, they kiss again.

The creature attacks.

Metal claws.

Red eyes.

Buffy crashes into it.

They fight.

She drives her stake through its core.

It collapses.

Still monstrous.

Still mechanical.

Xander stares.

Why didn’t it turn human?

Buffy studies the exposed wiring.

Because it’s not a werewolf.

End of Act Four.

EPILOGUE –

The Library

The next day, the gang sits quietly. The mechanical wolf in front of them. They are all exhausted.

Cordelia is absent.

Xander explains she took a mental health day.

No one questions it.

Willow offers to continue working on understanding the wolf's code. She mentions how the eyes have a camera installed. It was recording.

Xander makes the connection. Like the SafeEd security cameras. Are we safe in here?

Giles: We took precautions.

Jenny mentions she disabled the cameras in the library and they are on a constant loop feed.

Oz stands. Eyes down.

I’m sorry I didn't tell you guys about my wolf. I didn’t want anyone hurt.

Buffy meets his gaze. I know why you hid it. Believe me, I understand. But you don’t have to do this alone. We'll help you. No more secrets.

He nods, close to tears.

Willow notices Jenny’s guilt.

To Oz: You’re not the only one keeping secrets.

Jenny stiffens.

Willow turns.

So… when was the treasurer of the 'I Hate Cordelia Club' planning to mention his relationship with Cordelia?

Xander looks wounded.

Buffy intervenes gently. Cordelia has become a member of the gang, so we get it. But you didn't have to hide it.

Buffy looks at everyone.

We are clearly in over our heads with this QuickFlicks company. We have to be able to trust each other. No more secrets. Not from each other.

One by one, they agree.

Jenny hesitates slightly, then nods.

Cut to:

QuickFlick HQ.

Ethan reviews footage from Xander in the Server Room.

Snyder stands beside him. Why let them in?

Ethan smiles. All in time.

He takes his phone out and sends a message.

Last Shot:

Library.

Jenny’s phone buzzes on the circulation desk.

Fade out.

Episode 11 – “Feedback”

Teaser

A packed, neon-lit soundless rave pulses at a club similar to the Bronze. Dozens of teenagers move in perfect synchronization, each wearing glowing wireless headphones, lost in their own private Soundify playlists.

No music is audible — only the hum of bodies moving.

Suddenly, one girl freezes mid-dance. Her face drains of color.

She grips her headphones, trembling. Tears stream down her face.

She whispers, barely audible: “She’s… she’s crying for me… she won’t stop…”

A piercing, inhuman wail leaks faintly from her headphones — distorted, warped, layered through digital static.

She screams. Rips off the headphones. Collapses.

Cut to black.

Title card.

Act 1

Cafeteria – Lunchtime

The cafeteria buzzes with talk about Soundify, the new “must-have” music app.

At one table sit:
  • Cordelia and Xander
  • Willow and Oz
  • Buffy slightly apart, picking at her food
Buffy squints at Cordelia’s phone.

“So… everyone’s listening to the same song, but… not together?”

Cordelia rolls her eyes. “Welcome to the future, Buffy. Try to keep up.”

Buffy jokes that slaying and homework don’t leave much time for “trendy digital cults.”

Willow nudges her. “You’ve had time for mysterious late-night strangers.”

Buffy blushes. Oz mentions the “soundless rave” at the Bronze.

Willow brightens. “Maybe he’ll be there tonight?”

Cordelia assures her: “If he’s cool, he’ll be at the Bronze.”

Buffy reminds them she has patrol first. The separation between her slayer and normal teenage life feels sharper than usual.

Cut to: Library – Afternoon

Giles awkwardly asks Jenny out. He stumbles over his words.

Jenny smiles. “What took you so long?”

They agree on dinner. Giles looks ten years younger.

Cut to: Cemetery – Night

Buffy dusts a vampire effortlessly. Angel steps out of the shadows.

She jumps. They talk. She shivers. He gives her his leather jacket. She takes it after he insists he isn't cold.

Angel mentions strange incidents at soundless raves in neighboring towns — teens collapsing, hearing “voices.”

Buffy shrugs it off… until—

“Wait. Soundless rave… like the Bronze?”

A chill.

Cut to: QuickFlicks Video

A popular influencer posts shaky footage of teens collapsing, ripping off headphones, sobbing.

Overlay text: “THIS APP IS CURSED.”

Comments explode.

Cut to: Library – Night

The Scoobies gather.

Willow’s new laptop is open, glowing. She studies residual magic in Soundify’s code. Her voice grows serious.

“This isn’t just software. It’s… layered. Like someone wove a spell into an algorithm.”

She finds references to Banshee folklore — spirits that feed on grief and attachment.

Buffy asks about Banshees. Willow explains: harbingers of death, emotional parasites.

Xander suggests calling Giles.

Buffy says no. “He’s busy... being happy.”

A small smile. A little sadness.

Cut to: Giles and Jenny – Date

They laugh over dinner.

Giles relaxes. They talk about how oddly they fit together. Stuffy watcher/librarian and hip New Age computer teacher.

Jenny’s phone vibrates. She ignores it.

End of Act.

Act 2

The Bronze – Soundless Rave

The club glows in blues and purples. Everyone wears headphones. Silent dancing feels eerie.

Cordelia and Xander dance, watching the crowd like amateur bodyguards. Their banter turns flirty.

Willow and Oz sit in a booth. Her laptop is open. They lean close, shoulders touching.

She explains the magical “feedback loop.” Oz listens intently, impressed.

Buffy watches from the upper level. Angel appears beside her. He startles her again.

They talk about what's happening. Buffy worries about who might be affected next.

He explains: “Banshees don’t just scream. They echo what people already feel.”

They feed on heartbreak, longing, loneliness.

Buffy looks out at the dancers. So many lonely people together.

Cut to: Giles and Jenny – Continued Date

Giles opens up.

He talks about being split between watcher and man. About fear of failing Buffy.

Jenny listens. Relates.

When he asks about her past, she deflects. Changes the subject. Her smile tightens.

Cut to: Bronze

Willow’s phone pings.

Camera shows: The influencer posts again. One victim has died. Coma → brain hemorrhage.

Willow looks at Oz. Silence falls over the booth.

End of Act.

Act 3

Cut to: Sunnydale Main Street

Gils and Jenny walk slowly after dinner, sharing a quiet moment.

The earlier laughter has softened into something more intimate.

Giles talks about how rare it feels, lately, to just be Rupert instead of “Watcher.”

Jenny listens closely. She hesitates.

Then—

“Rupert… there’s something I should tell you.”

Her voice trembles. She looks away, gathering courage.

Her phone vibrates. A Soundify notification.

She frowns.

“Sorry—probably nothing.”

She opens it. A special track auto-plays.

Soft. Melancholy. A slow acoustic melody layered with faint digital distortion.

Giles watches her face change.

Her eyes well. A single tear slips down her cheek.

“Jenny…?”

She quickly wipes it away. Forces a smile.

“I just— I was going to say—”

She tries again.

Her voice breaks. Blood begins to trickle from her ear.

She freezes. Then screams.

Giles catches her as she collapses.

Cut to: The Bronze

The dance floor grows unstable. Some dancers sway too slowly.

Others stand motionless. One boy collapses.

Oz, Xander, and Cordelia rush to him.

They ease him onto his side.

Cordelia notices the blood. “Okay, that is officially creepy.”

Xander looks around. “Why is everyone still dancing?”

Oz answers quietly. “They’re not… really here.”

Willow types frantically at her laptop.

Readouts spike. “The magical signal just tripled. It’s feeding.”

The camera settles on the unconscious boy. Blood from his ear. Shallow breathing.

Buffy kneels beside him. Angel beside her.

Buffy’s jaw tightens. “We need to get him out of here.”

She looks at Oz. “Library?”

Oz nods. “Van.”

Cut to: Bronze - Outside

They load the boy into Oz’s van.

Buffy’s phone buzzes.

Giles.

She answers.

Her face drains. “We’re coming. Right now.”

She looks up. “Detour.”

Cut to: Library

Jenny and the teen lie on opposite couches. Pillows pressed beneath their heads. Towels under their ears.

Giles paces. Shaken. The gang gathers.

He explains. “The song… it was sad, but… nothing unusual. Just… personal.”

Angel speaks quietly.

“Banshees don’t scream for everyone. Only people who are breaking.” He continues. “Heartbreak. Guilt. Regret. Longing. That’s what they hear.”

Giles remembers.

“There’s a passage… in De Spiritibus Mortis…”

He moves toward the shelves.

Buffy notices Angel. “How do you know this?”

Angel shrugs. “I’ve listened to a lot of ghosts.”

Buffy lets it go.

Refocuses. “Okay. So… how do we stop something that lives in a phone?”

Willow looks up. Determined.

“We isolate the magic inside the app… and pull it into the real world.” Beat. “A technoritual.”

Buffy nods. “Do it.”

She looks at the others. “Someone needs to stay at the Bronze.”

Xander, Oz, and Cordelia step forward. Together.

Buffy approves.

Act 4

Library – Preparing the Ritual

Candles are arranged around Willow’s laptop.

Runes are drawn in an empty circle on the ground.

Jenny, pale and unconscious, lays nearby. Blood trickling from her ears.

Willow explains carefully. “Once I isolate it… I’ll need a conduit.”

Buffy steps forward. “Me.”

Willow hesitates. Then looks at Giles.

“It has to be someone connected to a victim.”

Giles doesn’t hesitate. “Of course.”

Willow hands out earplugs. “If you hear the wail, you bleed. You fall. You’re next.”

She explains: Digital transmission slows the effect. Real banshee screams kill instantly.

Buffy processes. “So… we’re making it real.”

Willow nods. Buffy exhales. “Silence is golden.”

She turns to Angel. “Maybe you should go.”

Angel doesn’t move. “I’m staying.”

Their eyes meet. Something unspoken passes between them.

Buffy nods.

Cut to: The Bronze

Another dancer screams.

Then another.

Xander grips his phone.

“Tell Willow to hurry.”

Library – Ritual

Willow types. Giles chants. Angel joins in. Translating ancient Enochian into code strings as Willow continues to type.

Lines of script glow.

The painted Runes mirror the glow and rotate.

The room vibrates. A distorted wail fills the air—muted by earplugs, but felt in bones.

Giles grips the conduit stone. Blood seeps from his fingers. He holds firm.

Willow shouts the final command. The feedback loop collapses.

The signal snaps.

Wind grows in the library, felt by all. Buffy looks from Willow to the Rune circle.

The screaming grows louder as a demonic woman appears in the circle. She attempts to lunge at Willow. The Runes keep her in place.

The scream peaks—

Then—The demonic woman bursts into sparks and flames.

Finally--Silence.

Cut to: The Bronze

The music returns.

Actual sound. Real rhythm. Dancers blink.

Confused. Exhausted. Alive.

Xander makes a joke about the Devil's music. Cordelia punches his arm.

End of Act.

Epilogue

Cut to: QuickFlicks Video

Cordelia films a QuickFlicks rant. Calls out exploitative apps like Soundify.

Coins: “Heartbreak-targeting tech.” It goes viral.

Cut to: School Cafeteria - Day

Soft music plays.

Willow and Oz talk quietly. He squeezes her hand.

Cordelia and Xander joke. Trauma bonding.

Buffy watches, wearing Angel's jacket. Proud. Happy.

Library – Day

Giles and Jenny sit together. Close. Hands touching.

But Jenny is distant. Guarded. Guilty.

Final Shot: Sunnydale Parking Lot - Night

Jenny walks alone to her car.

Ethan Rayne appears.

Slow clap. “Very impressive. Mixing JavaScript and the Dark Ages.”

She winces as he continues. "Gotta say, I never would have guessed you would be affected too."

He hints that her divided loyalties made her “visible.” That the Banshee was drawn to her emotional fracture. She's fragmented. Vulnerable.

She denies it. He smiles. “Lies echo, too.”

Then he's gone.

Jenny stands alone. Ashamed. Afraid.

Fade out.

He tells them everything.

The drugs. The magic.

Ethan. Mallory. The experiments.

Buffy stares. “You… you were getting high on magic?”

“Yes.”

Buffy: "And Mallory... she died.. because of this."

Giles' shoulders fall and he hangs his head. "Most unfortunately."

Xander mutters: “Wow. And I thought my Star Trek: Into Darkness phase was bad.”

No one laughs. Cordelia shifts uncomfortably. Willow looks devastated. Oz watches Giles quietly.

Buffy: “All this time… and you never told me.”

Giles: “I wasn’t proud of it.”

Buffy: “That’s not an answer.”

One by one, the others leave.

Giving space. Only Buffy, Giles, and Jenny remain.

Buffy paces.

Buffy: “You lecture us about responsibility. About consequences. And meanwhile—”

Giles: “I became a Watcher to atone. I knew what I had done. I knew I needed to correct it.”

Buffy: “That doesn’t erase it.”

He meets her eyes. “I know.”

She exhales sharply. “I need a minute.”

She walks away.

Silence.

Jenny steps forward. “Rupert… there’s something I need to tell you.”

She admits her work with Ethan.

The monitoring. The backdoors. The data funnels. QuickFlicks.

Giles explodes. “You were spying on us?”

Jenny: “I was trying to protect you!”

Giles: “By betraying me? Betraying Buffy? He nearly killed her with the SafeEd simulation."

Jenny: “I didn’t mean for that-. For this—”

Giles: “Get out.”

She freezes.

Hurt.

Cut to:
Outside the Library.

Buffy hears everything. Her face hardens. She storms back in.

Looks at both of them. “So that’s it. Everyone’s lying.”

She looks at Giles. Then to Jenny.

Buffy: "I trusted you." Back to Giles "Both of you."

"I don't know who you are. What you are."

Footsteps echoing.

Giles drops to his knees.

Giles sits at his desk. Alone. Glass of whiskey in hand.

Ethan appears. Smiling. Casual.

“Miss me?”

He talks about digitizing magic. Uploading Giles’ mind. Immortalizing Ripper. To always be who he was. A king.

Giles fights these thoughts. Draws a short sword from behind the circulation desk.

Ethan: "Careful, Ripper. You don't want to hurt anyone."

Ethan pulls out an ancient dagger. They fight.

From afar, Jenny watches, torn.

Parallel: The Bronze

Willow and Oz sit in a booth.

Xander and Cordelia nearby.

Willow fidgets. “Buffy’s been gone too long.”

Oz: “She patrols when she’s upset.”

Xander: “Great. Emotional vampire punching.”

Cordelia: “He deserves it.” The group looks at her. "We were all thinking it."

Willow: "Do you think she'll be okay?"

Xander: "Of course she will. She's Buffy. The Slayer." He nods. "She just needs a little time."

Willow: "And Giles?"

Cut to: Flashback - London 1998 - Warehouse

Young Giles and Ethan argue. Sigils glow around them.

Giles: "We never should have performed that spell. Do you even know what we summoned?"

Ethan smirks. "Wasn't exactly a Banshee, was it?"

Giles shudders. "A girl died Ethan. Our friend."

Ethan scoffs. "Mallory wasn't our friend, Ripper. She was a user. She wanted what we had."

Giles shakes his head. "Where did it take her?"

"Who bloody cares?" Ethan paces. "Just imagine what we could do in this world, you and I. People will flock from all over to get a taste of our power."

Giles: "No power in the world is going to bring her back, Ethan."

Ethan: "And who do you have to blame, but yourself, Ripper." Close up on Ethan's face.

Cut to: Library

Ethan's face morphs to his older self.

Ethan and Giles' weapons clash together. He dismantles Giles.

Ethan's dagger is at Giles' neck.

Ethan: “Mallory died because of you.” A beat. “You failed her.” Another. “You failed Buffy.”

Giles cracks. “Maybe… maybe I deserve this.” Giles stares, defeated. He allows Ethan to subdue him.

Giles: "What we did was wrong Ethan. It cost Mallory her life. I must atone for that."

Ethan rages. “You’re just running!”

Giles: “I’m trying to be better!”

Ethan: “Without me.”

Giles: “Of course, without you. You destroy me, Ethan.”

Ethan: "No, Ripper. You haven't seen destroyed."

They walk opposite directions.

Willow: "She really was helping us." She closes Jenny's laptop. "She gave him just enough information, but nothing that the apps weren't collecting anyway."

Cordelia: "Poor Giles."

Buffy paces. “He’s shutting us out.”

Willow: “I've never seen him like that. He was so sad.” Oz squeezes her hand.

Buffy: "I'm worried. He seemed off. Didn't he seem off?"

Cordelia: "He did look gross, but considering his magical drug dealer killed his girlfriend after finding out she was working with him and torturing us all for months.." A beat. "No, he's fine."

Buffy: "I'm worried he's going to do something stupid."

Xander: "If he doesn't, I will." Buffy glares. "I mean it, the guy is a maniac. I say Giles end all of our misery."

Buffy: "Wait, you think he's going to kill Ethan?"

Cut to: QuickFlicks HQ

Giles storms in.

Finds Ethan in his office. They argue.

Ethan disables cameras. Deletes footage.

Ethan begs. “Blow off the Academy. We could rule this world. Everything. Everyone. Stay with me, Ripper. We'll be kings.”

Giles: “I’m done, Ethan.”

Giles steps onto the train.

Ethan watches. Bitter.

Cut to: Buffy’s House

Buffy argues with the group. “No, he wouldn't do that. Revenge won’t bring her back.” A beat. "Besides, he can't just storm up into QuickFlicks headquarters and kill Ethan. It's suicide."

Xander: “What would you do?”

Buffy hesitates. Her eyes meet Xander's.

She leaves.

Cut to: QuickFlicks HQ - Ethan's Office

Ethan and Giles fight.

Giles pins him.

Raises dagger.

Ethan taunts. “Do it.”

Cut to: Library
Willow uses Xander’s phone. Creates exploit in QuickFlicks Servers. Backdoor. Data cascade.

Ethan grabs his dagger. "When I'm through with you, there won't be anything left."

Ethan flees.

Cut to: Sunnydale Main Street

Buffy walks Giles home.

Silent. Supportive.

Cut to: Library

The core group are in the library: Buffy, Xander, Willow and Giles.

Willow explains. Jenny was the primary networker. "She sent you that alert, Buffy. She knew you would try to save him."

Buffy: "Too little, too late." A beat. "How did you disable the network?"

"Her access made everything possible. Jenny's death broke the system. Most of the apps shut down. Without her code, the network was severed."

Buffy: "Does that mean..?"

Willow nods. "QuickFlicks is locked down, at least temporarily." Silence.

Buffy mouths "Thank You" to Willow.

Camera Pans to Giles, face solemn.

Epilogue

Buffy: “We’re always in danger. Ethan just weaponized it.”

She looks at the grave. “He killed her. He almost killed you.” Looks at him. “I still need you, as my Watcher.”

Giles smiles faintly.

Buffy: “We’ll take him down. For her.”

Fade out.

Episode 13 – “Going Viral”

Teaser:

Vertical QuickFlicks video fills the screen. Hyper-saturated colors. Fast cuts. Animated overlays flash: “🔥 #NextIcon Contest 🔥” and “Apply Now!”
A polished, charismatic influencer leans into frame, smiling wide, electric with energy.
Influencer:“Yo, QuickFlicks! This is your chance to be seen. To be heard. To be iconic.”

Music builds underneath. Emojis and captions burst across the screen.

Influencer (snapping their fingers): “Top forty creators get in. Ten make it to the finals.”

hey step closer to the camera, voice dropping just slightly, more intense.

Influencer: “Show us your inner truth.

For half a second, their eyes flash unnatural red. The music glitches. A distorted reflection in a chrome wall behind them shows a warped, demonic version of their face. The influencer’s smile snaps back to normal instantly.

Influencer (bright again): “Don’t miss it. Don’t blink. Let’s go viral.

The screen fills with:
#NextIcon | APPLY NOW | LIVE SOON
Smash cut to black.

Act 1

Scene 1 – Sunnydale High Courtyard and Hallways
Setting: Sunnydale High, courtyard. Students are filming QuickFlicks videos, laughing, dancing, lip-syncing.

The camera pans across students doing selfies and pranks. A boy trips on a bench, a girl swoops in to save his phone.

Buffy, Willow, and Xander walk together, dodging the crowd, observing.

Buffy (half-smile, gesturing to the chaos): “So this is the future of high school… every single move documented.”

Willow: “QuickFlicks announced a contest… top forty influencers get a VIP invite. Only the best make it to the finals.”

Xander: “Or the most gullible. Can’t tell the difference anymore.”

Buffy: “Great. Even the janitor’s trending now. What’s next… Principal Snyder doing a viral dance?”

Willow: “Ethan’s probably thinking this’ll get everyone back on the app. Genius, right?”

They continue down the hall, students pass, absorbed in their phones, oblivious to the subtle weirdness around them.

Buffy, Willow, and Xander enter the library. Giles is at the circulation desk, quietly arranging books. He looks composed, but his hands linger nervously on a stack of tomes. Buffy notices immediately.

Buffy: “Giles… you okay?”

Giles forces a small smile.

Giles: “I’m managing… thank you, Buffy.”

Willow steps closer to the table with the group, voice soft and personal.

Willow: “It’s still hard… I keep expecting Jenny to walk in here, joking about some tech thing. She… she saved us. Saved him. And she’s gone.”

Xander shifts uncomfortably.

Xander: “Yeah… it still hits. Empty chair, empty heart, huh?”

Buffy puts a reassuring hand on Willow’s shoulder.

Buffy: “We’re still here. We’ll figure this next thing out too.”

At a table near the back, Cordelia is already seated, phone in hand. Oz sits calmly next to her. Cordelia smirks as she swipes through her notifications.

Cordelia: “Well, well… look what just landed in my inbox. Personal invite to QuickFlicks’ #NextIcon contest. VIP treatment… just for me.”

Buffy: “Uh-huh. Sounds totally legit.”

Oz: “From a business standpoint, it makes sense. Ethan needs to recover investor confidence after last month’s crash.”

Xander: “Yeah… but something about it feels off.”

Willow flips open her laptop, curiosity in her eyes, not yet alarmed.

Willow: “I’ll poke around in the app code… but right now, it’s just a flashy contest. Nothing seems… supernatural yet.”

Giles frowns, voice tight, but restrained.

Giles: “Stay cautious. Ethan isn’t above manipulation to achieve his goals.”

Buffy looks at Cordelia.

Buffy: “Then we do this. Together.”

Cordelia leans back, smirking, voice sharp and confident.

Cordelia: “Here’s the deal, Slayer. I’ll coach you—because, obviously, you need me—but only if I get you the invite. You follow my lead, you film like I tell you, and maybe you survive this thing.”

Buffy: “Fine. I’ll follow your lead… for the invite.”

They exchange a sly, knowing smirk, the stakes acknowledged, and Buffy’s determination clear.

Act 2

Scene 1: Buffy’s Bedroom

Buffy’s in front of the mirror, phone on tripod. Cordelia sprawls on the bed, scrolling.

Cordelia: “Okay, stop. Chin down. Smile like you’re not about to have a panic attack.”

Buffy:
“I’m relaxed. Totally. Look… super casual.”

Cordelia:
“You look like you’re calculating world domination. Less thinky, more fun.”

Buffy groans, adjusts her hair, and hits record. She starts talking about facing challenges and personal growth, keeping it upbeat and relatable.

Cordelia: “Cut! Cut! You just yelled at your plant, what was that?”

Buffy:
“It’s motivational… for me.”

Cordelia:
“Yeah, well, plant or not, we’re selling you as an icon, not a weird plant lady. Again!”

Buffy laughs and reshoots. Cordelia nods approvingly.

Cordelia: “Better. Send it.”

Scene 2: Library - Day

Buffy, Cordelia, Willow, Oz, Xander at the center table. Buffy’s phone buzzes. She grabs it.

Buffy: “Uh… wow. I actually got the invite.”

Cordelia:
“Duh. You’re officially in the running.”

Xander:
“Oh great. The Slayer’s online. Perfect. That’s exactly what the internet needed.”

Oz:
“Could be fun… if it’s really just a contest.”

Willow:
“Don’t forget, Ethan’s behind this. Nothing’s ever just a contest.”

Buffy:
“Yeah… but I’m doing it. Let’s see how bad it can get.”

The group exchanges looks — excited, anxious, and a little wary.

Willow’s leaning over Jenny’s old laptop. Buffy and Cordelia peek at the invite while Xander and Oz hover.

Willow: “Guys… these accounts? Not normal.”

Buffy:
“Weird how? Like bots?”

Willow:
“No… the activity doesn’t make sense. Some of it shouldn’t even exist yet.”

Oz:
“Yeah… definitely not normal.”

Willow:
“I think Ethan’s using them. Like… they’re not human.”

Xander:
“Wait. Wait. Actual demons?”

Cordelia:
“Figures. I mean, some of these people were already way too extra to be real.”

Buffy:
“So basically, we’re fighting influencer demons. Cool.”

Oz:
“We’ll need a plan.”

Willow:
“I’ll keep digging, but it’s bad news.”

Buffy:
“Step one: don’t lose. Step two… figure out the rest later.”

They all nod. Determined, ready.

Scene 3: Giles’ Office

Buffy enters, holding the invite. Giles looks up, worry on his face.

Giles: “Buffy… Ethan’s behind this. He doesn’t play fair.”

Buffy:
“I’ll be careful. I know what I’m doing.”

Giles:
“Jenny… she gave everything. Don’t forget that.”

Buffy:
“I won’t. We’ll get through it.”

Giles nods, uneasy but reassured.

Scene 5: QuickFlicks HQ – convention center-style hall & living quarters

Buffy and Cordelia enter a massive hall buzzing with influencers filming, practicing, and live-streaming. Neon signs: #NextIcon | LIVE NOW | 40 Invitees.

Cordelia: “Forty invitees… top ten advance. Whoever wins takes the grand prize. This is insane.”

Buffy:
“They… actually live here?”

Cordelia:
“Yeah. Like a reality boot camp, but creepier. All day, every day.”

They walk past bedrooms, filming stations, and editing suites. Some contestants wave at cameras, others stay in character.

A staffer hands them the contest contract. Cordelia flips through.

Cordelia: “Noncompete? Seriously? I can’t risk my brand. Fine… I’ll coach you. Follow my lead.”

Buffy:
“Wait… you’re my coach now?”

Cordelia:
“Yes. Way better than me competing. Trust me.”

Buffy reluctantly signs the contract. Static sparks from the pen; she jumps back.

Buffy: “Okay… that was weird.”

Cordelia:
“Welcome to QuickFlicks. Now survive.”

They pause on a balcony overlooking the hall, exchanging a determined look.

Act 3 –

Scene 1: QuickFlicks HQ – massive exhibit hall

Neon sponsor logos flash. Giant screens show live feeds of contestants. Music hums from unseen speakers. Contestants are scattered, filming themselves, adjusting lights, posing. Everything is perfectly polished, practiced, and slightly over-the-top, but human.

Buffy crouches to adjust her phone tripod. Cordelia leans on a table, scrolling.

Buffy: “Ugh… so many people. So… perfect.”

Across the hall, a girl flips her hair, smiles at the camera, then freezes, waiting for a moment to strike another pose. A guy in a neon hoodie does a practiced thumbs-up while narrating his video with calm enthusiasm. Buffy watches, frowning.

Buffy: “Seriously. Do they even blink?”

Cordelia:
“Relax. That’s exactly why you’ll pop.”

Buffy hits record and starts speaking about AI-related psychosis, gesturing naturally. She stumbles on a word and laughs.

The girl with the perfect hair mimics the laugh, just slightly delayed, then tilts her phone, checking the angle. Buffy narrows her eyes.

Buffy: “Uh… are you copying me?”

Cordelia:
“Probably. Don’t care. Just… keep being human.”

Buffy gestures to emphasize a point. A line of contestants behind her lift their phones, all framing their faces exactly the same way, smiling identically. Buffy rolls her eyes and smirks.

Buffy: “Yep… perfect hair, perfect teeth, perfect personality. I’m… not that.”

Cordelia:
“Good. Be real. Let them look plastic. You’re fine.”

Buffy finishes her take and stops recording. She watches as the other contestants continue their pristine routines: poses, practiced laughs, synchronized gestures. Buffy stretches, shaking her head.

Buffy: “Okay… if perfection is the game, I’m definitely winning by being messy.”

Cordelia (nudging her):
“Exactly. That’s the trick. Send it before they notice you’re actually funny.”

Buffy uploads her video and steps back, watching the hall. The competitors keep moving in predictable, polished ways. Buffy smirks, fist-pumping herself quietly.

Buffy: “Yeah. Definitely noticeable. Definitely me.”

Act 3 – Scene 2: Library

Late afternoon. Jenny’s laptop sits on a table, showing live feeds of the competition. Willow types rapidly. Giles leans over her shoulder. Xander leans on a bookshelf. Oz quietly observes.

Willow: “Uh… guys. Look at this.”

Xander:
“What now? Another server meltdown?”

Willow:
“No… the contestants. Watch how they move.”

The gang leans in. Each contestant on the feed smiles, gestures, angles their phone. Something about their posture and timing feels… slightly unnatural.

Xander: “Wait… they all kind of… match each other? That’s… weird.”

Oz:
“It’s subtle, but consistent. Almost like they’ve been coached.”

Giles (frowning):
“It’s familiar… a pattern I’ve seen before. Years ago, Ethan used humans in a ritual — specific gestures, movements, even synchronized expressions. The goal was to draw energy from participants. Done in person. Controlled. Dangerous.”

Willow:
“Oh… I see. He’s doing the same thing… but with the app. Digitally.”

Willow clicks through Jenny’s files, which are organized folders of QuickFlicks data.

Willow: “Whoa… Jenny kept a copy of the QuickFlicks backend files. She collected this for analysis while she was working for them.”

She opens a file labeled “NextIcon – Platform Mechanics”, revealing snippets of code and a digital contract.

Willow (reading aloud softly): “‘By participating in the #NextIcon Challenge, the user consents to energy capture by QuickFlicks servers. Participants provide life force to platform-associated entities during contest engagement. Only the top-ranked participant will be exempt from energy transfer.’”

Xander (confused, uneasy):
“…Wait. Did she just say ‘life force’?”

Willow:
“Yes. Every contestant is feeding the system. The energy is being siphoned digitally — only the winner gets out safe.”

Oz:
“Influencers are feeding the system.”

Giles (nodding, quietly):
“Jenny’s work… she left us enough to understand what he’s doing.”

Willow continues typing, eyes scanning for other hidden clauses. The camera briefly pans to the competition feed: contestants smiling, gesturing, unnaturally uniform. Buffy’s messy, authentic performance stands out starkly.

Willow (quietly, resolved): “I get it… Ethan’s collecting them. Every single one. Digitally. Only the winner is safe.”

Xander (determined, leaning forward):
“Then… Buffy has to win. If she doesn’t… she loses her soul.”

Scene 3: QuickFlicks Exhibit Hall

Open on a buzzing convention hall full of booths, cameras, and giant screens showing live metrics. Neon lights flash hashtags and live likes. Contestants hold various trendy products — wellness apps, gadgets, beauty items — and are filming themselves pitching each one. Cordelia stands slightly behind Buffy, giving quiet coaching.

Cordelia: “Okay, keep it short and real. Talk like you actually use it. Don’t sound like a robot reading instructions.”

Buffy (half-grinning, holding a smart sleep tracker):
“Right… short and real. Got it.”

She starts recording, hesitating at first.

Buffy: “So… we all know someone who never sleeps, right? Well, this tracker… it’s like having a friend who reminds you to chill… without nagging. It has multiple sounds to help you get the beauty rest you need, while tracking your sleep patterns so you know when something's off. Never use sleep meds again!”

Cordelia leans in, whispering: “Great! Not perfect, but people connect with real. Keep it casual.”

Buffy laughs awkwardly, a little nervous, and finishes her pitch. The live metrics start climbing fast.

Across the arena, the other contestants continue their rehearsed routines — flashing perfect smiles, synchronized gestures, over-practiced angles. They’re visually appealing, but their pitches feel hollow.

Scene 4: Library

Willow, Giles, Xander, and Oz are monitoring the live feed.

Willow: “Her engagement numbers… she’s skyrocketing past the others.”

Giles:
“Her authenticity gives her a shield… for now.”

Xander:
“Yeah, but everyone else… every smile, every gesture… it’s feeding something.”

Oz:
“Buffy’s got to stay on top. One slip and the energy they’re harvesting could overwhelm her.”

Scene 5: QuickFlicks Exhibit Hall

Buffy picks up another product, a fitness app this time, and adjusts her tone:

Buffy: “Okay, so… I know we all love making excuses for skipping workouts. This app? It literally tracks what you do and gives you little… nudges. I don’t know, it’s actually kind of fun — and guilt-free.”

Cordelia gives her a small smile and nod.

The camera pans over the other contestants: still polished, still uniform, still feeding the system without realizing it. Buffy’s messy, authentic pitches continue to stand out, drawing live likes and attention.

Cordelia (quietly, impressed): “Not bad… you’re actually getting it.”

Buffy (to herself, grinning):
“Real beats perfect. Always.”

Scene 6: QuickFlicks Exhibit Hall

Setting: QuickFlicks arena, top 10 finalists. Giant screens display live engagement metrics. The contestants are gathered on a stage-like platform; judges sit on a slightly elevated panel, glowing neon behind them.

The finalists wait nervously. Buffy adjusts her stance, holding her product but keeping it secondary — this round is about personality, not performance.

Judge 1: “You’ve shown your skills, your polish, your energy. Now… tell us who you really are. Why does this competition matter to you?”

The other contestants give carefully crafted, rehearsed answers: smiling, nodding, polished statements about their dreams, the app, followers, and social media success. Their words feel practiced, uniform — almost rehearsed.

Buffy steps forward, glancing at Cordelia.

Buffy inhales, then speaks honestly:

Buffy: “I… I don’t know if I belong anywhere. People expect things from me I can’t always be… and this competition feels like… a place where I can actually just… be me. Messy, imperfect… and maybe people will see that it’s okay.”

The room is quiet for a beat. The judges exchange glances, then nod approvingly. Her engagement metrics spike dramatically — live viewers are reacting to her vulnerability.

Judge 2: “Authentic. Vulnerable. That’s why people connect.”

Judge 3:
“You can’t fake that. Metrics confirm what the heart already knows.”

The four lowest-performing contestants are escorted away. Buffy watches, realizing the stakes — she is one of the top performers, but every elimination increases the tension.

The camera follows one eliminated contestant as he is taken into a side room. He fidgets, glancing around nervously. The staff remain silent and unnerving, and the tension is thick. The door closes. Camera pans out from the closed door. Screams are heard inside.

Act 4 –

Scene 1: Library

Setting: Sunnydale High Library. Willow is at Jenny’s laptop, fingers flying over keys, monitoring the live feed of the top 3 finalists. Oz sits beside her, calm. Xander leans against a bookshelf, jittery. Giles paces behind, tense.

Willow: “Buffer’s holding… almost got the final isolate… okay, stabilized.”

Oz:
“You’ve got this. Just keep steady.”

Xander:
“Yeah, because if this blows, we get a front-row seat to soul extraction. Lovely.”

Willow glances at the feed. Buffy’s pitch is messy, real, drawing live engagement spikes. The other contestants smile and move in near-perfect synchronicity — polished, uniform, slightly unnatural.

Willow (muttering, focused): “They’re too uniform… it’s like the app is coaching them live. But Buffy’s—Buffy’s just herself.”

Xander (eyes on the screen):
“Look at those other guys… creepy how similar they are. Buffy’s numbers are jumping. She’s… standing out.”

Oz (calmly):
“Exactly. That’s why she’ll make it.”

Scene 2 – QuickFlicks Main Stage

Setting: QuickFlicks arena. Final 3 contestants on stage. Giant screens display votes and engagement metrics. Judges sit on a slightly elevated panel, over-polished, influencer-performative.

Judge 1 (smiling overly wide): “Alright, loves. Last round! Convince us why you deserve the #NextIcon title. No filters, no scripts. Just… your truth.”

Finalist 1 steps forward — confident, sleek, perfectly groomed.

Finalist 1: “I’ve been building my audience for years. Followers, posts, engagement… I know how to connect, how to inspire. Fame isn’t just attention — it’s proof I can make an impact. QuickFlicks can take me further. I want to be remembered.”

Judge 2 (overenthusiastic, clasping hands):
“Yes! That drive! I love seeing ambition, so relatable!”

Judge 3 (soft laugh, head tilt):
“And the energy! You’re giving me everything I live for in content. Vibes are perfect!”

Finalist 2 steps forward, clutching her scholarship folder, voice trembling slightly.

Finalist 2: “I… I need this scholarship. My family can’t afford college. QuickFlicks could help me get there. I’ve worked hard my whole life, and this is my only chance to show I’m worth it.”

Judge 1 (leaning forward, fake sincerity):
“Oh my gosh, I feel that. Real stakes! So human, so raw!”

Judge 2 (smiling tightly):
“Yes! Vulnerability plus determination? That’s how people connect!”

Judge 3 (gasps theatrically):
“Totally! I love seeing honesty like that. Content gold!”

Buffy steps forward, visibly nervous, taking a breath.

Buffy: “I… I live in two worlds. At school, online… everyone expects me to be one person, but I’m not always that person. I have to hide parts of myself, and I never really fit in anywhere. But… I want to help people. Even in small ways. That’s why I’m here. Not for likes, not for fame, not even the scholarship. I just want to make a difference. I want to do the right thing, even when it’s hard.”

She pauses, voice gaining strength:

Buffy:
“I’ve made mistakes. I’ve failed. I’ve been scared. But I’ve never stopped caring. This contest… it’s about showing that being yourself matters. That trying to help matters. That’s why this is important to me.”

The audience reacts instantly — live metrics surge. Buffy’s authenticity overtakes the polished performances of the other two finalists.

Judge 1 (grinning too wide, fake awe): “Wow… so much honesty. I feel that!”

Judge 2 (nodding dramatically):
“Yes! That connection! That’s what people want. So real!”

Judge 3 (tilting head, exaggerated gasp):
“Totally! Depth, heart, authenticity… it’s everything!”

The screen flashes: Buffy — 66% — #NextIcon Winner

The feed cuts off as Buffy is crowned the winner.

Scene 3 – QuickFlicks Offstage

Cordelia moves cautiously, noticing a judge leaning over a finalist on the stage, whispering strangely, almost rehearsed in tone. The contestant shivers.

Cordelia pulls out her phone, recording live.

Cordelia (angrily, whispering): “Everyone watching! These influencers aren’t human! They’re feeding off the contestants. This is dangerous!”

The judge notices. Their smile is perfect, but a subtle, off-kilter tension shows beneath the polish.

Judge 2: “Oh? And what exactly makes you an authority, darling?”

Cordelia:
“I don’t need to be an authority. You’re exposing yourself. Everyone see this — don’t fall for them!”

The judge steps forward aggressively. Cordelia ducks behind a crate, breathing hard.

Cordelia (muttering to herself): “If they can’t see the truth yet… Buffy will finish this. She has to.”

Tension builds — the judges are aware, the contestants are scared, and Cordelia’s livestream cuts abruptly when her phone slips from her hands.

Scene 4: QuickFlicks Main Stage

The stage lights are slightly dimmed, giving a faintly eerie glow. The two other final contestants crouch behind stage scaffolding, wide-eyed. Buffy stands in the center, facing the three judges — humanoid, influencer-like, but subtly off, their smiles too polished, movements just a touch too precise.

Buffy (shouting): “Back off! Nobody moves!”

The first judge lunges at her with a smooth, calculated strike. Buffy ducks and sweeps the floor with her leg, tripping the judge and forcing it to stumble into a stage monitor. Sparks fly.

Buffy: “You’re not controlling anyone tonight!”

The second judge circles toward the remaining contestants. Buffy grabs a nearby folding chair and swings it, forcing the judge back. The finalist closest to the stage dives behind scaffolding, clutching their phone.

Cordelia (shouting): “Stay down! Don’t move!”

The first judge recovers, straightening unnaturally fast, then charges again. Buffy ducks under the outstretched arm and pivots, delivering a strong kick to the side, pushing it into the arena wall. Monitors flicker and the lights dim further, the screens reflecting the judges’ unnatural smiles.

The third judge, taller and more imposing, approaches calmly, hands raised in mock welcome.

Judge 3 (smiling, overly polished): “You think being fast or strong will save you? Fame, influence… it all belongs to us.”

Buffy (gritting her teeth):
“Not while I’m here.”

She ducks a swipe, rolls to the side, and uses a stage prop — a metal railing — to vault into the air, kicking the judge back. The judge crashes into the side of the stage with a hollow thud, scraping their polished exterior.

The first judge lunges for Buffy again. She grabs a coiled cable from a nearby monitor stand and swings it, tangling it around the judge’s arm, then pulls, sending it tumbling into a pile of scaffolding. The second judge hesitates, glancing at the fallen comrade.
Buffy (breathing hard, steadying herself): “I said stay back.”

The third judge lunges aggressively. Buffy sidesteps, grabs a nearby stool, and throws it with precision, hitting the judge squarely. It stumbles but recovers quickly, snarling under its polished exterior. Buffy locks eyes with it, tense, fists clenched, ready for the next move.

The fight continues with strategic moves: kicks, throws, and the use of stage props — all grounded, continuous, and tense. Buffy keeps the judges off the finalists, who are now huddled safely behind the scaffolding.
After a flurry of moves, Buffy corners the tallest judge near the stage’s edge. She strikes with a swift combo, knocking it backward into a stack of empty crates. The crates collapse with a loud crash, creating a barrier between her and the judge. Sparks fly from a nearby monitor, illuminating the scene.

The first two judges, seeing their ally down, hesitate for a beat — just enough for Buffy to catch her breath. She wipes blood from a split lip, eyes scanning the stage to make sure the finalists are safe.

Buffy (breathing hard, firm): “I’m not done, and you’re not taking anyone else!”

The judges exchange a glance — something almost like frustration flickers across their polished faces. They advance cautiously, more measured now. Buffy pivots, grabbing a rolled-up stage banner, swinging it like a staff to keep them at bay. She presses forward, forcing them back toward the edge of the arena.

One judge lunges aggressively, but Buffy sidesteps, trips it with her leg, and uses its momentum to shove it into the other judge. They collide with a harsh clang, stagger, and scramble to regain balance.

The stage is littered with toppled props, sparks from broken monitors, and the finalists are huddled safely behind scaffolding. Buffy's bruised, panting, standing victorious in the center of the stage.

Buffy (breathing hard, determined): “I said stay down. Nobody else —”

Before she can finish, a shadow moves quickly from behind a side stage panel.

Ethan (smirking, voice low and menacing): “You really think this ends here, Slayer?”

He lunges, catching Buffy completely off guard. She tries to react, but he strikes her squarely, and she collapses unconscious to the stage floor.

The finalists gasp, frozen in fear. The judges, already beaten, retreat slightly, as if sensing their master is now present. Buffy lies still, bruised and unconscious, the arena silent except for the hum of flickering monitors.

Cut to black. End of Act Four.

Epilogue

Setting: Sunnydale High Library, evening. The arena fight is “over.” Contestants are safe. Willow is at Jenny’s laptop, Oz nearby, Xander pacing nervously, Cordelia leaning on a table with her usual confident grin.

Xander: “So… she’s really okay? Because last I checked, fighting three super-polished influencers isn’t exactly a warm-up.”

Willow (focused, smiling faintly):
“Yep. Alive, safe, and all the contestants are free. The feeds are scrubbed.”

Cordelia (smirking, dramatic):
“Told you guys, Buffy’s basically unbeatable. And now we have receipts. Everyone can see who’s the real #NextIcon.”

Oz:
“They’re all safe. That’s what matters.”

Buffy takes a deep breath, bruised but present in her mind, seeing her friends and the contestants relieved and happy. Her voice is soft, a mix of pride and exhaustion.

Buffy: “Judges gone, Ethan out… everyone’s really okay.”

The finalists peek from behind the bookshelf, excitement and relief on their faces. Buffy allows herself a small, dry smile.

Buffy (thinking aloud in simulation): “We actually did it… for real this time.”

The gang laughs, teases, and celebrates naturally: Xander cracks a joke, Cordelia struts confidently, Oz nods quietly, Willow smiles proudly. Buffy watches them, heartened, relaxed in a way she rarely allows herself.

The camera lingers on this warm, joyful scene.

Cut to: High-tech SafeEd+ pod.
Buffy lies unconscious, restrained safely inside. The previous library scene was only her consciousness experiencing a simulated outcome. Ethan stands nearby, calm and smug.

Ethan: “Nice, isn’t it? All of it — the smiles, the celebration… exactly as you'd imagine it.”

Buffy stirs slightly, but her body remains unconscious.

Ethan: "Well, congratulations. You’ve really made things quite a mess.”

He leans in closer, hands clasped behind his back.

Ethan: “QuickFlicks? Shut down for weeks. SafeEd? Practically destroyed. Soundify? Let’s not even talk about it.”

He crouches slightly, voice softening but still sharp:

Ethan: You have this… talent. A way of making things go wrong for me, without even trying.”

He straightens abruptly, pacing in a circle around the pod.

Ethan (taunting, threatening): “But don’t get comfortable, Slayer. This… isn’t over. Not by a long shot.”

He stops, leans over the pod, and smiles coldly.

Ethan: “You think you’ve won? You’re going to pay for every ounce of humiliation, every second you ruined my empire… and I’ll enjoy it.”

The pod hums ominously. Buffy’s eyelids flutter faintly, but she’s still unconscious.

Ethan (stepping back, voice low and dangerous): “Consider this… a warning.”

He straightens, tilting his head with a smug expression.

Cut to black.
