I was wondering if anyone has seen this movie.Here's a discreption:

Made 5 years before the hit TV show started. The heroine of the film is Buffy, high school student from Los Angeles whose life revolves around cheerleading, shopping, gossiping and all other activities you could expect from South Californian airhead bimbo. But the destiny has chosen another path for Buffy, since she happens to be the Slayer, next in the long generation of women dedicated to rid the world of vampires. At least this is the explanation given by Merrick, mysterious stranger who wants to teach her the skills of vampire slaying. Buffy is sceptical at first, but when she meets the vampire for the first time, she grudgingly accepts her fate and starts changing her life. Her airhead friends can't fail noticing changes in her behaviour, including her relationship with young mechanic Pike, but this surprise is nothing compared with Lothos, vampire leader whose followers are going to attack partygoers at the school dance.

It was made in 1992 by Joss. I've never seen it before and I'm wondering if it's worth my money to go and rent it.

It's totally worth it as a Buffy fan to see the movie. I will warn you that it is Cheesy. The reason why Joss developed the series was because the movie didn't turn out to be what he wanted, the show did. There are some changes that have been made from the movie to the show (i.e. in the movie Buffy is a Senior, etc). I hope that helped!
 
Is it just on VHS?I know that sounds liek a stupid question, since the film was made in 1992.
 
No its on both. From my past experience of working is Music/Movie stores, they are both fairly cheap as well. Amazon is always a good place to start for good prices. I always order my BTVS and ATS seasons there.
 
It was on BBC2 a few months ago and I watched all but the last 1/2 hour because it was late and the film was boring.

Pike = Luke Perry (aka Dylan on 90210) I used to have the doll of him...hehe.

Also in the movie is David Arquette(from scream), Courtney Cox's husbad (aka Monica on Friends)

And from what I've heard, although I don't have the box the movie came in (I taped it off TV), Seth Green had a scene in the movie but was cut out, but there is still a pic of him on the back cover or so I've heard.

Did you see the Movie after you had gotten into the Show? I saw the movie when it first came out in 1992 when I was 11. I liked it at the time but after the show came out I realized how cheezy (yet still lovable) it was.
 
I was a big fan of the movie before I was a fan of the show, I saw it in theaters when I was 9 and loved it. That's what made me excited to find out the Buffy series was coming out. And yes Luke Perry is hot! I loved Pike with Buffy in the movie, it wasn't like the tv show turned out to be but it was a great romance/comedy. I also liked the Valley speak. When I rewatch it I also like to spot all the later to be famous people in it. Hilary Swank played one of Buffy's friends and she went on to win an Oscar, talk show host Ricki Lake was the waitress where Benny and Pike got their hot dog, Ben Affleck was an extra on the basketball court that got one line, something like here take the ball. The other people everyone probably recognized.

I know! I loved seeing all the familiar faces in it. I hadn't caught Ricki Lake though. Thanks for that tidbit!
 
Personally, I really did not like the movie. It was pretty cheesy IMO. Although that could be because I didn't see it till after I saw alot of the series, and I thought that the movie just didn't come close to comparing. So I'm not a fan of the movie.
 
I think that most of us who liked the movie have a nostalgic view of this movie. I'm in my mid-20's and when I saw it, I was 11. It might be that age is directly related to whether or not you liked the movie. 🙂
 
I hated this movie! IMO, it was cheesy. The only good parts were seeing Pike 😛
I missed the last 13 minutes (i had my dad tape it when it was on FX cause i had school) and ran outta tape.
 
I loved the movie! It was soooooooooo good. My fav part was when Benny was floating outside Pikes window and he goes "Let me in Im hungry."
then pike goes :
"Youre floating get away!"
(Or something like that.) 🙂
 
I love when Pee Wee Herman's character goes "I can do anything." (or something) And Buffy goes, "Okay, clap." (cause he only has one arm) lol
 
It was a period piece, and like, every other movie that tries to follow the cutting edge of teen fasion and language, was doomed to be dated in less than two years. Now, nearly a decade later, it seems antiquated, but it still had a good premise, without which Buffy the sieres would never have existed. Also, all the really good thinga in the movie were replicated in the first season, mostly in the first two episodes, so watching it after seeilng Buffy, none of it looks original.

I loved when she's talking to the principal, and while he's trying to relate to her and "be her friend", she "stakes" a fly with a pushpin. I also liked that (in Joss's original script) she killed Lothos with a pencil.

the films sucked, except for that bit. this thread is old.... yawn. Now it has moved up to number 1
 
I have the movie on DVD, and I was sooo exicted to see it. And when I did... my hopes fell. All I could think was "This can't be Joss's work!" Later it did a lot of research on the movie, finding some interesting things. The Buffy movie was not supposed to be a teen summer comedy flick. The orignal script was posted many times on the internet, and it was almos tthe same, but not. It was supposed to be a dark movie, with slight comedy. Just the the TV show. But after the movie was turned down by many production companies, a Japanese one (I'm pretty sure) took it. But she changed it. Saying that drama and horror were out. (Psssh, look now, more horror movies in the 2000s then about ever!) So Joss had to go back and keep making drafts, until it was practically changed all together.
