This can't be right! But that's what I said when I heard UPN was thinking about poaching "Buffy" from the WB!
It is difficult to imagine that "Peach Buzz" got it wrong!

I've never submitted before so I hope I do this right. Love the site. Not sure if this is old news or not.....

In the Thurs. May 20th edition of the Atlanta Journal Constitution, in the "Peach Buzz" section where they talk about local celebrities, they interviewed Alyson Hannigan's (she's originally from Atlanta) mother Emile Posner, about an accident that happened in the audience during her performance of "When Harry Met Sally"

As a side note at the end it reads:

'Hannigan's many "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" fans, take note: According to Posner, who recently visited her daughterin London, the actress is reprising her role of Willow. While Posner was in town, Hannigan was recording some voice work for an upcoming "Buffy" animated series.'

I hope to god this doesn't happen. A Buffy cartoon would suck. It would have to lose all that adult material that made the show what it was. Would rather see UPN pick up a Spike spin-off.
 
Sure it would lose "some" of its adult material but not all, just look at shows like Gargoyles, it appeals to all ages and is very dark and not fluff.

The BUffy toon has always been on and off project, I think it will be atleast 3-5 years before we actually see it put in full development.
 
I'm not totally against the idea. As long as the buffyverse is still going it's good for me, but yes a cartoon might be streching it a bit. I don't know, I'll have to think about this for a while.
 
Yeah..I agree with Primal Slayer that we'll probably have to wait a few more years to actually see anything,but it might be interesting and I'm sure I'll watch it no matter what
 
I've been making a study of the rumours, and of all of them the animated Buffy is receiving the most buzz.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the animated Buffy come out first.

Here's some interesting points though. At one time Sarah Michelle Gellar said she wouldn't voice Buffy. ASH is still in England as far as I know. If he were to come to America to do voice work, I suspect it would be news, and we'd hear about it.

Assuming the Alyson rumour is true, Alyson appears to be doing the voice work in England while she's working on the English stage? That would allow Tony to be in the project. What about Nicholas? The new animated Buffy rumour began with him. Isn't he still in rehab in America? Will they be making this on 2 continents? The original was supposed to take place in high school. Seth Green is pretty busy. Will they use a different voice for OZ?

Speaking of rumours, what about the rumoured Joss-Charsima feud? Would they work together again?

To me this particular rumour only makes sense if only Alyson and Tony from the original cast, are providing voices at this time.
 
Well Charisma has said that she enjoyed going back to do You're Welcome and despite season four her and Joss got on, so never know.

Good thing with cartoons, the voices are all done seperatly (including conversations) so they could be anywhere as long as they get to a recording place and they could send the files over the internet or something. So ASH could remain in London, Aly could be in America and Seth could be in Antartica as long as there was recording equipment.
 
That's true, of course, yet I can't help thinking booking multiple studios, in cities spread out around the globe accompanied by multiple production staffs, seems like an exorbitant expense for what was supposed to originally be a Fox Saturday morning cartoon.

I don't know though, is that common practise?

Also with that kind of production detail happening in multiple cities, shouldn't we have heard something from someone other than Alyson's mom by now. Production people aren't good at keeping their mouths shut. That's how we get spoilers.

I just had a wild and crazy thought.

What if it was something other than the original Saturday morning cartoon Idea? What if Joss was trying to sell something like an animated Buffy movie, and he needed to create a little secret preview away from prying eyes to sell the idea. What better place than England. The organized Buffy spoiler networks would be set up in America. Alyson and Tony were already over there. In fact, weren't Joss and Sarah both over there doing interviews recently.

What a fun conspiracy that would be.
 
It would probably be all recorded in LA and just Tony's in England if he feels like it. I'm sure he'd be happy doing it from home (speaking of, where about does he live. London or does he live in the Midlands or whatever?)
 
I remember reading he lives right around wherever they filmed the Giles/Willow scenes from Same Time, Same Place, if that helps. Then again I can't remember where I read that, so don't quote me.

BTW, you did read in the posted article where it's suggested Alyson is doing her voice-work in England, right?

It is just a rumour, of course, but that is what we're discussing.

I think working on it on 2 continets might be a bit expansive,but who knows?? I'll be happy to wait for it a bit longer🙂
 
I did read it, but bad memory. I'd presume however since Aly is giving up the Sally gig she'd do the rest (if there were more to do) in America. I think Bfufy could make a could anime, which tend to be darker. There are some very dark animes out there.
 
Tony could do his voices in England as already discussed.

And I think that Alyson is finishing up her little play since isnt she being recast now? And her show didnt get picked up so she wouldnt have much to do.

Nick wont be in recovery for a long time so he would and could get out of it by next year, and even if he did do the voice over while still in it he could always leave to go to studio and come back.

They wouldnt even need Seth to do voice work at the beginning of the show since im guessing they would start either at freshmen or sophmore year which at Seths charecter wasnt even introduced. And they would probably take a year or 2 just to get done in one animated year. The only big difference would be having Dawn since Joss said that he would have Dawn in their from the beginning to see how everything changed.

And yeah they filmed STSP at ASTs house.

But the only big thing that would intrest me is that would they try to create an Angel:TheAnimated Series spin-off, but probably not since they wouldnt take Buffy and co. out of highschool for the running time of the series, but I have to say that I wouldnt be surprised if we saw some Angel charecters from the live show pop up on the Buffy Animated show if it started production.
 
I wouldn't worry about the logistical problems of having busy voice actors on multiple continents. An entire episode of lines can be recorded easily in one session. That's why a lot of other film and TV actors do cartoons on the side(even when they are busy doing their main gig). Linda Cardellini(plays Velma in the scooby doo films)was doing the voice acting for a video game(Gladius)while she was filming Scooby Doo 2 in Vancouver(I'm sure there are better examples, but I actually knew of that one cause a show I work on interviewed her at the studio). Actors dig the quick paycheque that comes with cartoons usually. It's quick and easy(you can come to work in your sweats). Voice actors can be directed over phone, and studio time costs pretty much the same anywhere you go. In fact studio time in LA is likely more expensive than most everywhere else in the world. There are also mobile recording studios, although they are a lot more expensive. Paying for someones voice talent is also a lot cheaper than paying for them to be on screen. Add that to the cheap Korean slave labour that does the in-betweening(animating all the frames in between the key frames that were done be the lead artists), and you got yourself a cartoon with star voice acting for not too hefty a price.
 
OK, I'm a skeptical guy, but you people are starting to sell me on this. I'm almost willing to take this rumour seriously. Especially when both Nicholas at a convention and Joss in an interview have let something slip suggesting some kind of animated Buffy is either in production, or about to enter it.

So what'll it be then? Originally it was supposed to be a Saturday morning cartoon. Speaking of game voices, could Alyson have been doing one of those. Like how long ago was Alyson's mom visiting London? I'm not a gamer so I don't know when Chaos Bleeds came out, but could it have fit into the time frame. Check this out:

Alyson was (rather famously) not in the Chaos Bleeds game, the voice actress they hired wasn't exactly great. Unless they are referring to a new video game, it is animated after all.
 
As I believe Ashsan said, it has been stated that the Buffy Animated Series would take place in Season 1 of Buffy. No Seth Green needed 😀
 
Angel was supposed to appear in the original though. Check out the preliminary sketches from the original proposed series.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it more probable that Alyson was doing voice-over work for this King of the Hill episode when her mother visited her in London.

What followed was most likely misinformation, gossip, and wishful thinking leading us to believe it was some kind of proof of a Buffy animated series.

I've gotta admit you guys almost had me convinced, and I'm still hoping for a Buffy animated, but I'm back in the space where until I hear something concrete, it's just a rumour.
 
I am not going to debate whether or not a Buffy cartoon is going to happen. However, people seem to believe that if it did, it would be based in the Scooby gang?s high school years. If that were true, I think that it would be taking away a huge part of what was great about Joss?s work. The best part of Buffy and Angel, for me, was the suspense. It was great to know that anything could happen, and that it would all continue next week. A cartoon that took place before the end of the original show could never achieve the same level of suspense. No major characters could be killed off, and no unexpected plot twists could occur. Also, with a movie, the plot would need to be wrapped up within the few hours of running time. I don?t think that any format other than an hour-long, continuing television show could truly do justice to the original. I will, of course, welcome anything that I can get.
 
Angel was a guest star in Season1 so he would still have a part in the atleast the first few seasons.

Just because they put it in highschool doesnt mean that the expense is gone, their are sooooo many stories that we havent had, and they wouldnt make it the same as the show, its not all going to be in continuity with the real thing, Dawn would be there already set into everyones memories so we would be able to see how things changed with her plus they would make up new monsters, some charecters wouldnt leave, some wouldnt die.

Look at The Justice League, they already had an animated series about that a long time ago and they have it agian, it has new storylines that are new and intresting, and orignal.

Even SailorMoon went from cartoon to live action with the same villans and charecters but they still changed things to make them new and intresting.

I say by the time they get to senior year they wouldnt get out for AWHILE and its doubtful if they would want to do a Collage years thing.
