BUFFY Toon Back On Track??

I don't anyone has to worry about (if rumours are true) that the Buffy animated series will be too 'kiddish'.

look at sailormoon, the first victim of american censorship. the thing was completely dubbed, disfigured from the original script with non-violent (slap scene cut out), no nudity (hello, where is the final season??!), no lesbian relationships (changed about three characters to the opposite sex so relationships were 'normal') and no harsh language. then you look at some of the newer anime's coming out. Cartoons arent' just considered for children's audience's anymore.

On Cartoon Network, they have a whole 3 hours of Adult Swim where it shows adult cartoons and anime. Cartoons have come a long way and I wouldn't be surprised if the Buffy animated series was able to be darker and more adult.
of course that completely depends on whether the rumour is true and what kind of cartoon it'll be like, anime or not.

I'd like to see it in the Xmen Evolution type style, which looks kinda of animeish and is for older audiences.

Buffy Resurrected!

Concept art by Eric Wight from the previous attempt.

It started with a piece that caught our attention on Aint It Cool News. According to a scooper there, Alyson Hannigan's mother had mentioned in the Atlanta Post-Journal that her daughter was doing voice-work for an animated version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Of course you have to take these kinds of things with a whole salt lick. A couple of years ago, there had been more than talk of doing an animated version of Joss Whedon's baby. In fact, Whedon had assembled a team to work on it, headed by comics and TV writer Jeph Loeb. When Loeb took a job working as a producer on Smallville, it was clear that the animated project had died.

But then it occurred to me to contact Loeb directly. If nothing else, he might know if the AICN scoop had any validity, even if he wouldn't be working on the project.

"The truth is true," Loeb replied.

He has spoken to Joss Whedon, and, in Loeb's words, "he'd like me to take point."

At this point, that may be all Loeb can say; we'll be talking with him later tonight, but it seemed worthwhile to all you mourning Angel fans to give you some hope: the Whedonverse is not dead.

Buffy's Voice found!

We have new -yet unconfirmed- information about the voice of Buffy Summers in the Animated Series!

Her name ist Giselle Loren and she's gonna participate the team of Tony Head, Aly Hannigan und Nick Brendon by doing this synchronizing job ;-)

She is known as the voice double of Smg, so Buffy`s voice will sound just like Sarah`s.

Click here to see her pic

Nicholas Brendon - Alexander 'Xander' Harris
Alyson Hannigan - Willow Rosenberg
Anthony Stuart Head - Rupert Giles
Giselle Loren - Buffy Summers

We want to stress that TVTome is not known to be one of the most reliable sources. Anyway we felt that we should inform you about the update since the information provided on TvTome concerning the other voices (Tony, Aly and Nick) has been confirmed by other more reliable sources.

We try to find out if this informatin is true or not.

Hey, I wanna jump back on board with you guys.

This story is starting to look like it might be for real.

It brings up an interesting issue beyond Buffy: Animated.

If actresses other than SMG are doing the voices for the game and the cartoon, does this add credibility to the idea of someone other than Sarah doing the Buffy part in any future Buffy movie that might be planned?

I believe that yes...I'd love SMG to do the voice, but as she's having so many new projects right now I'm sure she won't find time for animated series...But we have to wait to get it confirmed

Woo its the same person who did the voice for the Buffy games. She seemed to improve between the original and Chaos Bleeds, so lets hope for more improvement.

Yeah, she improved, but it's not the same...Sarah should do it IMO

Yeah..But I wouldn't count on it..I'm sure other projectsa re of greater importance for her now..and I can't blame her really

And as someone said, if they write up the scripts for the series you could record it in a day or two, surely shes not that busy.

Anyway if Sarah doesn't want to do it im glad Giselle apparently is.

What about Charisma/Coredelia and Angel/David ? Will they do the voices? Any news about this?

Charisma would probably do it hasnt it already been said in the past that she would do it?, David probably wouldnt IMO but you never know.

And what about Armin Tamsarian (sp?) (Snyder). I mean theres character art for it, but whatever happened to Flutie anywho.

He was eaten by Xanders hyena possessed buddies...they will probably have Principal Flutie for a couple episodes like in the show or will just leave him out entirely.

I just thought it took place during the first season so I was presuming it would involve Flutie but yeah im guessing they could do it post-hyenas.

And I knew what happened to Flutie, I meant in the animated series what happened to him, no signs of him.

Today was officially announced (that Buffy returns in a cartoon series) in an interview that the cartoon is most definitely happening.

The slayer returns in a cartoon series.

We don't know when. We don't know how many episodes - but it looks like a Buffy Animated Series is happening.

A series was nearly made for Fox a few years ago and then parked. The man behind it, Jeph Loeb, went off to work for Smallville. Having heard rumours that the series may be on again, we caught up with Jeph to find out what's going on.

What has happened to resurrect Buffy: Animated? Is a network backing it now?

Magic. No... honestly? We think that Fox became aware of this wonderful treasure and wanted to move forward again. As to where and when it will arrive... that part we're holding as a secret for now.

Will the project continue where it left off?

Like any great Buffy story it's all about resurrection. We have the same great crew, the same commitment from the actors and the same scripts we had in the drawer. It just needed the stake taken out of it so it could rise again.

Will you be in control of the project as before and, if so, how will this affect your Smallville role?

I return to season four of Smallville as the Supervising Producer. My role on Buffy Animated will be much as before because, as you all know, I spent a year and a half getting the show ready, it just wasn't sent into production. Animation is unique really in that production is actually the final step.

How many of the original cast are likely to be on board?

We're thrilled to have Alyson (Willow), Nick (Xander) and Tony (Giles) on board so far. There are still some surprises that we'll talk about at a later date.

After the project stalled, artist Eric Wright revealed a lot of the proposed character designs on his website. Do you still plan on using him and his team to animate the project?

Well, it was actually Eric Radomski's team (Batman Animated, Spawn) and Eric Wright did some of the key designs. Yes, much of that vision that was Radomski's continues... only it's better.

Radomski is in charge of the animation and as he proved with Batman and Spawn, Buffy will reinvent what can be done in animation again. Sometimes when you have two years away from something you can really see how to change it for the good.

buffytoon_5.jpg

I know you have some scripts, but will the Buffy writing team be involved in scripting the rest, now that they have moved to other projects?

We'll drive off that bridge when we get there. We've got quite a few in the drawer. And, of course, we'll hunt them all down again!

How involved is Joss likely to be, given that the Firefly movie begins shooting next week?

Don't you know? Joss has cloned himself so he can take care of all parts of his empire. Trust us, there ain't gonna be no Buffy Animated without Joss getting ink and paint all over his hands.

Jeph has promised to keep us informed as Buffy Animated progresses. In the meantime, you can follow the links to check out our Buffy ecomics section, or watch a recent video interview with Jeph regarding his work on Smallville.
