Writer David Fury stopped by the Bronze Beta and updated 'Buffy' fans on where the long-awaited "Buffy" cartoon series currently stands.

According to Fury, they're still trying to find a home for the show - which takes place in Buffy's highschool years - but the Showtime network has been rumoured.

Moviehole has also heard that if that doesn't happen - and even if it does - that the "Buffy" cartoons may find a home on DVD, be it in an episode chain or movie-length animated feature.

Within the next twelve months we should be seeing some inked-up Slayer action.

Buffy: Animated news

The cartoon adventures of Buffy could go straight to DVD.

Series writer David Fury, posting on the recognised Bronze Beta message board, has said that the production team behind the animated series are still trying to find a network to buy into it.

A showreel featuring the vocal talents of many of the original cast but not Sarah Michelle Gellar is currently being touted to the networks. According to rumours, Showtime has expressed an interest.

If the series isn't picked up, however, fans needn't worry. Fury says that there will be a DVD release, which will be either a stand-alone movie or a series.

If commissioned, the series will concentrate on Buffy's high school years.

Showtime? Hmm, doesn't seem like something that they would pick up. Speaking of, ya never hear of Showtime anymore, atleast I don't. They used to be so ground breaking but I guess HBO just overshadowed them.

I'm beginning to think that the animated series is a bad idea. I know it would be great to continue the Buffyverse, but I think it may be done in a poor light.

I mean you can't accomplish the adult themes in high school that made Buffy so great in a cartoon. And it probably won't be taken seriously, and most cartoons are notorious for not lasting long. Unless your Family Guy and give CN the best ratings its ever had then get picked up by Fox the same network that cancelled you.

I can think of a couple of adult or serious teen shows that have been transformed into cartoons and I just don't like them because there to childish. Or worse. The cartoon could be about *GASP* TEEN ANGST. And I'm a teen and I hate it. "Ohh look I'm Buffy. I used to be popular but I'm not anymore. And I have this on and off boyfriend whose a bit older. Ok well a lot. And my parents are divorced. And I fight vampires. But now I'm gonna go cry because of my teenage insecurities and break up with my boyfriend every other day."

Plus I don't think they can do certain things in cartoons and get away with it.

"Hey Willow, Angel and I went for ice cream. Rocky road which was like the best ice cream ever and then Angel got really happy over the delicious ice cream and lost his soul. So watch out if hes gonna kill ya."

Wasn't that the point of Buffy? Teenagers going through things that they normally don't or shouldn't. I mean Dawson's Creek was a typical teenage show, where Buffy was not.

Very very long post.

You've got a point Comma! Plus LMAO at the Angel and Iced Cream Comment :)
LMAO!! Angel lost his soul over Ice Cream...I get what you're saying though.

Although there are some cartoons that are for Adults Only (ie. South Park, Family Guy), I don't think that seems to be the format they were getting at.

Well if it goes to dvd hopefully it will be a series(ofcourse they will see how it sales first before making any more decisions) but comeon, its Joss we are talking abou there. Do you think that he would let the Buffyverse be ruined just because its made into a cartoon? ofcourse not. And hey if it does go to dvd than they will have less restritctions and they can make it as adult as they want.

well i'm still interested in it. sign me up for a dvd. actually, the animation's got to be stylin' or else i'd probably turn my nose up. i'm an artsy snob sometimes.

doeas anyone think the cartoon will be like the tv show but with funny little cartoon scoobies instead of the living flesh? I doubt they'll bring up such things as Buffy giving Angel a happy making him lose his soul and such. Or that they'll take an episode and just make it cartoony.
If they make an animated series of BtVS, I bet ya they'll make it a kids series and show it on some cartoon channel. They'll probably fight demons and go to school and get in trouble. But things like Willow being a lesbyaan or Buffy having all these angsty relationships with guys will probably NOT be included.
I'm looking forward to it anyway. I'm craving for new Buffyverse stuff.
