Buffy-transformation

I was just wondering why the first evil(I can't translate it in English hope you all know what I mean! The big bad...) could trnsform itself to Buffy when it's takling with Caleb! I always thought it could just transform into people who are already dead!
Sorry if there is allready a thread like this I just couldn't find it! If there is one please just post the link so I can read the answer there!

It can transform itself to Buffy because Buffy died... it's just "anyone who has passed," rather than "anyone currently dead." Freaky, right? And btw I always hated when it transformed into Buffy!

Isn't it because Buffy did technically die? And your translation of the First Evil is correct 🙂
