Magic had been a quite clever drug metaphor until it was completely ruined in season 6. Anyway, Buffy herself does some trance state magic in "No Place Like Home". What drug did she use? Spooky Sand and method of consumption points towards PCP but the short length of the trip suggests Ketamine.

What do you think? Would you do a spell with Buffy?

Well doesn't PCP normally make the user lose control of themselves and act very violent? From what I remember of the scene you are talking about she doesn't get violent, but merely sees though the monk's spell regarding Dawn. Based on that I'd see either Weed or some kind of Mushrooms since both have been used in religious rituals by shamans throughout history to see into the spirit world. Possibly LSD as well since it is sometimes used to a similar effect in modern times.
