Buffy Unaired Pilot

I saw it last week and can't honestly say anything good about it. It was very cheap, terrible visual effects, pathetic fight scenes, and Alyson Hannigan wasn't even in it. Now I understand why they didn't bother to air it on t.v. Anyone seen it and feel the same way?

I've only seen the first 10 minutes of it, was watching it on the net and it kept resetting itself 😡 But no I didn't really like it, some bits of dialogue you could see were directly lifted from this one to the one we've all seen, but besides this it seemed pretty bad IMO

Well, it showed potential, but remember, it was the unaired pilot, to be shown as a premise to TV executives, not to the audience at large. Changes are bound to be made.

It still contains one of the best lines ever that never made it into the show proper. "Ow! that was my favourite spine!"

It's....um, intriguing, I guess.

It does have it's moments - Cordy is probably the truest to her character and well played too. Her lines are probably the best...

Buffy's jump off the spiral staircase in the library is a definite high point but you can see why the staircase was scrapped....especially when Giles said part of his line, practically ran around the stairs to face the camera again, said his line again, ran around etc etc.

The library itself is definitely mucho cool...

Flutie is pretty funny as well although why he let Buffy see the dead body is beyond me. Cool scene beforehand though - "We almost never have dead kids in the lockers."

Some of the lines are replicated in Welcome To The Hellmouth but they're more polished - see Xander's "building a little fence" line...in WTTH he flips the stake over which makes the line better and "A shiny nickle" re: the study buddy thing. Also worth noting Giles' "They're all real," wasn't delivered as spookily in the pilot - simply stated. Much more effective in WTTH.

The staking...yes, wonderful, I could've made a cup of tea in the time it took. 😉

And Buffy's entrance to discover Willow and the vamp at the end was totally tacky.

Willow was totally flat - I think it's over the "Will you be my study buddy" line....she pauses too long and the whole joke fails. So yeah, I can see why Aly quickly replaced her.

Nice to see Johnathon waiting outside the Bronze.

Yeah, it had some nice touches but overall it was pretty dire....quite how they managed to get a series commissioned from it is beyond me but hell, I'm glad they managed it! 😉

I think the most notable thing is the lack of background music and no growling from the vamps! Darla's biting of the boy is so fake without the growl....it's just hysterical. 😛
