Okay the other day I was watching angel and out of nowhere it occured to me why do I love these characters(buffy-verse) so much. What is it? And that's when I got to thinking about them all and their different personalities and character strengths. Is it that I love characters like willow and fred who start out a bit shy and mousy then evolve into these wonderful people who are strong and caring but at times can be that shy and mousy person you love and respect or characters like buffy and angel who has to be the leader the champion or chosen one the person everyone comes to for help and not just because their physically strong but mentally ,but over time we get to see how vunerable and scare they can be just like the people around them and it lets us better understand and care about them. or people who are mean, harsh, and sometimes cruel who cares only about themselves like cordy and spike then over time we see them change into people who are loving, caring, and old school champions who really wants to fight the good fight so much that to help or protect the ones they love they would give their lives.

I love every single Buffy character too. They're all so "real" you know? like, they're people you can relate too. I think the only character I didn't like much was riley.

it is also due to the fact that many of us spent 7 years growing up with and getting to know these characters. there's an attachment to them much as if we knew them in real life, or even more so since we got to see everything about them, even their most private and sometimes destructive moments. we grew to know them inside and out, and in some ways as outside viewers, better than they knew themselves.

I love them because of the diversity. They're not all hero types and as already stated, they are so real. While Buffy has superhuman strength and abilities, she is flawed by, at first, her teenage personality then grows through her struggles facing adulthood. She's not wearing a cape flying way above like a "god" with us "wee little mortals".

Angel is another hero who has all these abilities yet struggles to find redemption for his past crimes.

Xander has no super-powers yet displays a powerful sense of humanity through his heart, his actions, and his words.

The evolution of different characters like Willow, Cordelia, Wesley, and Fred whom start one way and then after a few years mature yet still at times retain those past insecurities we were introduced with them. Joss Whedon and the actors whom he selects all do a wonderful job representing these enriching, realistic characters. You can never have them all figured out and you can never get tired of them.

IO always thought it was because the writers/actors etc potrayed the personal growth of each and every character so well, I mean look at cordy she went from super bitch to higher being, not many shows could pull of that kind of transformation and still have it believeable, but buffy can and thats why we love it
