Buffy VS. Kendra

I agree, slayers such as Xin were interrupted. In Xin's case, she was interrupted by an explosion.

I am a veteran of watching a lot of martial arts movies, going back to Bruce Lee's ENTER THE DRAGON. I'm sorry, but the actress or stuntwoman who portrayed Xin Rong moved as if she belonged in the cast of CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN TIGER or any other martial arts movie. As good as SMG and her stuntwoman were, they would be out of place in that movie. Quite frankly, Xin Rong had the best fighting style. She died, simply because she had been distracted by an explosion. And had she faced off Buffy or any other Slayer portrayed, she would win. Period.

Buffy has also been distracted during her period as the Slayer. She was under a thrall when the Master killed her. Spike managed to get the best of her in both "School Hard" and "Out of My Mind". Joyce saved her life in the first episode, and a government chip in the second.

Buffy proved to be more long lasting than most Slayers, mainly because both Xander and later, Willow had brought her back to life. If it weren't for the Scoobies, her career as a Slayer would have lasted a little over a year.

Fighting skill alone means nothing. Just because Xin had great skill doesn't mean she could execute them well, put power behind it or even use the right moves at the right time. Buffy's faced some pretty powerful foes, including a god and a man infused with the power of the First Evil, and she won because she knows what to do.

It also appeared the Xin probably had no imagination. As a Slayer in battle, you have to have an imagination and use it in creative ways, other wise it could be your neck (pun intended). Buffy knew her surronding anytime in battle, and she used them to her advantage. And it also seemed as though Xin wasn't really that powerful, but if you look at Buffy in battle, she just oozes with strength (like Faith).

As for Buffy being alive, I think theres a higher power working in the Buffyverse. Yeah Buffy was brought back by her friends, but doesn't it seem odd that the other 3 original Scoobies would all have such unique gifts (Giles knowledge, Xander heart and Willow uberpowerful witch). I think its pretty obvious that they were all three brought together to help Buffy. Xin Rong had family who knew about her calling and even tried to avenge her death (Tales of the Slayer, I believe) but then why wasn't she brough back, I mean people knew of her calling, so surely they could have sought out a powerful socecer(sp?) or something of that sort, which leads to my hypothesis that...

The Powers that Be knew Buffy was the one Slayer who could do the things she did. She was the Slayer to kill the Master, she closed the Hellmouth, stopped the Mayor, protect Dawn and stop Glory... why, because she was the only one who could do these things. Sure there could have been another Slayer, but could they kill their true love or sacrifice themselves to save the world or work so brilliantly in battle, probably not. To do the things she did, you would have to have power and heart. All the Slayers had power, but did they all have heart? Thats something that will probably never be answered, but we do know that for some reason Buffy was brought back 3 times, thats a bit coincidental I think.

You talk about Buffy's style not being as good as Xin Rong's and that Buffy has only lived so long because of her friends. True for the most part. But isn't that Buffy's style? She's a slayer with a back up team. That kind of fighting style and technique has kept her alive longer than any other slayer. Xin Rong's fighting style was probably flawless but I bet she was unable to work with anyone else. Buffy uses her friends to her advantages. Her style of fighting allows others to get involved.

I loved the character of Kendra, she was totally kickass, and I was so glad, despite her short appearance in 3 episodes that she met Buffy, they were totally different and each learned something by meeting each other. I understand why she couldn't stick around as a Buffy groupie but I wish she could have reappeared in future episodes, but we wouldn't get the character of Faith if that happened, but she was awesome

jules, that is a very good point! the scooby gang is a part of buffys fighting.. even though she hold the slayer powers, she also has scooby power... and , like you said, that is what has made her last that long!

i also liked kendra.. avery good character.. and i'm glad we got to meet her! but still i'm glad that things happend as they did(season1 thru 7) cause they gaves us alot of momenst!!! if kendra hadden't gotten killed we wouldn't have faith(like DarksideFaith said.) but i'm glad that they included kendra in the few eps she appered! cause it was quite a character!

i pick buffy. i loved kendra, but i will pick buffy. she allowed herself to be ruled by her emotions and while it possibly made her weaker and led to many "mistakes", it made her a better slayer and a better person and probably the longest-living and most powerful slayer ever. it's what kept her alive and kept her as *buffy*. she wasn't enslaved to her calling the way kendra was, she had so much more to her than that.
i know it's hard to compare, buffy had a man she loved and who loved her, mother, friends,. watcher who was like a father to her. kendra had none of the above. and still. i choose buffy.

Of the two it has to be Buffy. I adored the character of Kendra, she was highly underused i "tink" 😉

But as for best slayer overall it's Faith all the way for me!

C
Cordelia
LOL "I tink" that's so funny!!!
Yes, she was a clean freak that Buffy, always mopping and wiping and drying... 😀

Faith was a wonderful slayer, making attempts on the slayer's life, trying to kill her friends and bring forth armageddon. What a lovely girl 🙂

i love faith. i loved that character, she was an incredible and very deep character, there was so much to dig into, so much to analyze in her, she was a mystery, a fallen angel of sorts.
yes, she screwed up, majorely, but who didn't? yes she went evil, she fell, she had weak times, who hasn't?
she wasn't buffy, she didn't have the mother, the boyfriend, the friends and the watcher (father) to hold her up and strong, she was all alone and when she was offered to be apart of something, to matter for the first time, she got scared and she turned that fear into anger. but that was a long time ago, she's been trying to make amends, she not only learned from her mistakes, but has outdone herself trying to amend for them. she she will never receive forgiveness, not from herself, she knows it. and she fights anyway.
i think she's earned at least respect and appreciation.

'Cept for the fact that Buffy not only wiped the floor with her, but also proceded to both mop and dry the floor with her!

Well if we are basing the comparisons on who Buffy could beat in a fight then this entire thread is a great big waste of time because she could beat Kendra too.

However seeing as how this is a question of who our favourite slayer is, regardless of fighting ability, we aren't keeping it to the level of who could kick who's ass.

Faith was damaged, no doubt about it, and in no way was she Buffy, but that is ultimately what made her my favourite of the slayers. I like my heroes to have a darker edge. The most interesting good guys are the ones who know what it is to be evil. Faith did all the things that Cordelia said above and yet she still managed to turn herself around. To me that means she should be applauded for her effort, not condemned for the mistakes she made.

Without a doubt Faith was the most interesting of the slayers, and this is coming from somebody who absolutely adores Buffy Summers. Have a read of what Wicca says above if you haven't already, she knows what she is talking about! 😉

Buffy all the way. I had no feelings for Kendra whatsoever to be honest, I didn't care about what happened to her, and she reeeaaly got on my nerves.

Buffy Summers is the better slayer. She easily manipulated Kendra into understanding true emotions.

Kendra also was taking a beating from Dru and her gang of vamps. Buffy would have probably beaten Drusilla in my opinion.

I just think...Buffy is more experienced and Kendra doesn't have fun, she's too wrapped up in everything.

Sorry I love Kendra but Buffy would kick her butt.

The idea with her was that she wasn't fighting with passion like Buffy.

She was doing every thing by the book in the box. Buffy would improvise and kick her but.

I did not really take to well to Kendra, i just could not warm up to her she was too distant for my liking. If i had to choose of course it would be Buffy, however having said that i also liked Faith alot too, i liked the whole wild girl. We all knew deep down Faith wasn't a bad person, i think she probably hated being in the shadows having everyone fuss over Buffy as the Slayer and noone really cared about her, so probably by turning to the dark side she thought this would get her some attention at least away from Buffy.

Neither of them are better ... I don't think anyone is better than someone else... But I think Buffy had more skill and better 'techniques' which i think made her a stronger slayer, and in a fight Buffy, I think would win. But I think Kendra was a good slayer to... and I loved her accent~

Buffy could totally kick Kendra's ass anyday...well...anyday when she was alive. You gotta admit, Buffy is the stronger slayer. Kendra totally lacked passion in her fighting. Nope, Buffy would win, no problem.

i have to be loyal, buffy would beat her ass, come on all the evil shes fought, more eperience kindof dyed 2wice.....kind of beat a god??? kind of stoped the first ???? killed kayleb?

buffy rules
