Xander: I don't know what I'd do without you and Will...
Buffy: Let's not find out....I love you, you know that?

bxthread-quotes.png

Buffy: Xander, you're one of my best friends. I don't want to spoil the friendship that we have.
Xander: Well, I don't want to spoil it either. But that's not the
point, is it? You either feel a thing or you don't.
Buffy: I don't. Xander, I'm, I'm sorry. I-I just don't think of you that way.
Xander: Well, try. I'll wait.
Buffy: Xander...
Xander: Nah. Forget it. I'm not him. I mean, I guess a guy's gotta be undead to make time with you.
Buffy: That's really harsh.
Xander: Look, I'm sorry. I don't handle rejection well. Funny! Considering all the practice I've had, huh?
Buffy: Xander, I'm sorry, I don't know...
Xander: You know what? Let's just not.
Prophsey Girl

Angel: You're in love with her.
Xander: Aren't you?
Prophsey Girl

Buffy: Angel.
Xander: Are you okay?
Buffy: This isn't happening. He's gonna keep coming after me.
Xander: Don't let him get to you. He's not the same
guy you knew.
Phases

Xander: I don't mean to play devil's advocate here, but are you sure you're up to this?
Buffy: It's time.
Xander: We're talking to the death.
Buffy: I can't play kid games anymore. This is how she wants it.
Xander: I just don't want to lose you.
Buffy: I won't get hurt.
Xander: That's not what I mean.
Buffy: Just get me an address.
Graduation Day Part One

Xander: Buffy, I've gone through some fairly dark times in my life, faced some scary things, among them the kitchen at 'The Fabulous Ladies Night Club.' Let me tell you something, when it's dark and I'm all alone and I'm scared or freaked out or whatever, I always think, 'What would Buffy do?' You're my hero. Ok, sometimes when it's dark and I'm all alone I think, 'What is Buffy wearing?'
Buffy: Can that be one of those things you never, ever, tell me about?
Xander: It's a deal. Let's put this bitch in the ground! What do you say?
Buffy: I think I say thank you.
The Freshman

BUFFY: That's my secret to attracting men. You know, it's simple really, you slap 'em around a bit, you torture 'em, you make their lives a living hell-
XANDER: Buff...
BUFFY: ...and sure, the nice guys, they'll run away, but every now and then you'll meet a real prince of a guy like Spike who gets off on it.
XANDER: Buffy. The problem is not you. Don't do this to yourself, please.
BUFFY: It's just ... I just wanna know that there's gonna be another good one. One that I won't chase away.
XANDER: There will be. Promise. He's out there, he could come along any minute.
BUFFY: Yeah, and the minute after that I can terrify him with my alarming strength and remarkable self-involvement.
XANDER: What? I don't think you're like that.
BUFFY: Maybe I could change. You know, I could, I could work harder. I could spend less time slaying, I could laugh at his jokes, I mean, men like that, right, the, the joke-laughing-at?
XANDER: Or maybe you could just be Buffy, he'll see your amazing heart, and he'll fall in love with you.
BUFFY: Xander, that's ... aw!

BUFFY: I mean, look at me obsessing about being with someone. It's like ... I don't need a guy right now. I need me. I need to get comfortable being alone with Buffy.
XANDER: Well, I'll say this, she's a pretty cool person to be alone with.
BUFFY: Thank you.
I Was Made to Love You

XANDER: The past few weeks...
BUFFY: I know.
XANDER: I thought I hit bottom, but ... it hurt. That you didn't trust me enough to tell me about Spike. It hurt.
BUFFY: I'm sorry. I should have told you.
XANDER: Maybe you would have, if I hadn't given you so many reasons to think I'd be an ass about it.
BUFFY: Guess we've all done a lot of things lately we're not proud of.
XANDER: I think I've got you beat.
BUFFY: Wanna compare?
XANDER: Not so much.
XANDER I don't know what I'd do ... without you and Will.
BUFFY: Let's not find out.
Xander nods. They hug.
BUFFY I love you. You know that, right?
Seeing Red

XANDER: Let me tell you something about Buffy. In fact, you should all listen to this.

XANDER: I've been through more battles with Buffy than you all can ever imagine. She's stopped everything that's ever come up against her. (Buffy and Faith walk through the front door and overhear Xander's speech) She's laid down her life—literally—to protect the people around her. This girl has died two times, and she's still standing. You're scared? That's smart. You got questions? You should. But you doubt her motives, you think Buffy's all about the kill, then you take the little bus to battle. (Buffy tears up) I've seen her heart, and this time—not literally. And I'm telling you, right now, she cares more about your lives than you will ever know. You gotta trust her. She's earned it.
Dirty Girls

XANDER: I should be at your side. That's all I'm saying.
BUFFY: You will be. You're my strength, Xander. You're the reason I made it this far. I trust you with my life. That's why I need you to do this for me.
XANDER: (getting a little misty, sentimental) OK.

BUFFY: Are we doing any good? We’ve been fighting more demons, but… but it just seems like there’s more demons to fight, and, what, is that because of us?
Xander smiles back at Buffy, his face certain in his response.
XANDER: Buffy. Turn around.
From above, we see the two of them look down castle grounds below, and the dozens of Slayers down there.
XANDER: I live with a bunch of Slayers. Dozens of girls who are… so *filled up* with purpose, with confidence they didn’t have before… the walls are vibrating with it. I can’t sleep, the place is so charged.
Buffy is leaning against the stone wall along the rampart. She is looking over at Xander, smiling fondly.
BUFFY: You really need to ask Renee out already.
XANDER: Stop changing the subject to true things. Maybe now we’re only cleaning up messes, but we’re just getting started. What you’ve created here is a lot more than just monster fighters. It’s… you know, ah…
Buffy is looking sad again.
BUFFY: Connection. Why can’t I feel it?
Xander rubs his chin as he answers.
XANDER: Maybe you don’t get to. Maybe the leader, the girl who brings it all together, is the one that has to give that up.
Down below, we see the Slayers, happily training and sparring with each other. Up in the distance, we see the shapes of Buffy and Xander watching them.
BUFFY: Yeah.
Buffy stares ahead with resignation on her face.
BUFFY: Yay me.

Oh nice thread. Well done. Sarah and Nick had an idea for Xander and Buffy in season 7, to be a couple. But Joss found it strange. Can I have you? Haha I will never forget that =)

Nice thread, sosalola. I don't 'ship them, but I love all the graphics you've posted. I love their friendship, though. Xander is her best friend - I absolutely believe that.

Who has a favorite Buffy/Xander scene we can discuss?

I really think that by the seventh season they've both evolved as people and in their relationship to a point where they could make a very nice, stable couple. Despite this I'm a little torn on whether or not I ship them in season 8 (not that it probably matters now, since they went with him getting with Dawn *crosses fingers and prays there won't be a love triangle*) because all Jossverse relationships end terribly and I desperately don't want either of them to die or for their friendship to be ruined.

Oh Joan my favourite scene is their first scene together 🙂 Can I have you?
I like their relathionship in season 1 and 5 the most.
But when he looses his eye, that period is just creepy for me when I see them together on screen :S

The Buffy and Xander moment that has always stood out for me is the scene from Into The Woods in season 5 - when Xander is trying to convince her to not let Riley go. He cares so much for her and her happiness that he's going to make sure she listens to him whether she wants to or not. Even in spite of her bad attitude and rude comments about him and Anya. It's a beautiful scene and everytime I watch it, I'm hoping she'll finally make it to that helicopter on time - and I am not a fan of Buffy and Riley together (but is anyone?). I couldn't wait for him to leave so Buffy could finally be with Spike, but this scene almost changes my mind.

I think the friendship between Buffy and Xander is more powerful and inspiring than any of the romantic relationships portrayed on the show. Friendship like that is rare and if they were to ever be anything more, that friendship would never be the same. I think it's perfect the way it is and everyone should be so lucky to have that in their lives.

I love their hug in Seeing Red.

For a moment there everything is alright and that makes me very happy.
This is of course season 6 so it ony last for about 10 seconds, but still...

Your sig rocks!
Ugh. I know what you mean Paramour. I did not even like Riley and I wanted her to get to that helicopter on time.
Anyways back to Xander and Buffy. I don't ship them but I am totally in love with all the stuff you posted Sosa! My favorite scenes with Xander and Buffy? There are too many! I'm going to have to go with the scenes in Seeing Red when he finds her on the grounds and then when they talk in the backyard. I like when he found her on the ground, because in the moment you see how much he cares for her. He first looks freaked and shocked and then looks like he wants to rip out Spike's guts. The emotions that go over his face are enough for me. And then, when they talk in the backyard I was proud of Xander, because in the past he seemed to have a hard time getting over things. This time they talked about it how they should and you could see how much he loved Buff.

I don't think I ship them, but I'm starting to like the idea of them together.

My favorite Xander/Buffy scene is the unspoken moment between them in Chosen, holding hands, squeezing, eyes locked; I can say confidently that Xander is the only core character Buffy is close to/trusts the most at that moment, and I'm proven right seeing how close Buffy and Xander became in S8. It started in S7, and is continuing in S8.

My favorite moments of them are whenever Xander goes all dad to Buffy. Like in Beer Bad, when he told her to go home and go to bed. And in Him, when he found Buffy and RJ doing stuff in a classroom, he said things like "Room service..blah blah blah. Come on Buffy, we're going home". I also love the scene in The Bronze in The Freshman. 🙂

Ooooh! I love Dad Xander moments! For a guy who was afraid about turning into his father, he sure seems to act like a good one.

I've got some Xander/Buffy related questions for you guys. 🙂

What did you think of Xander's decision to tell Dawn about Spike's attack on Buffy? Do you think this should have hurt their friendship/relationship?

Why do you think Buffy wanted Xander with Dawn both in "End of Days" and in "Chosen" (when, in "Chosen", better fighters were available)?

Which do you consider the most Xander/Buffy-centric episodes in the series (regardless of whether you like them or not)?

What did you think of Xander's decision to tell Dawn about Spike's attack on Buffy? Do you think this should have hurt their friendship/relationship?

I don't think he would have told Dawn if she didn't shove it down his throat that Spike would have done a better job saving them. With every praise Dawn was giving Spike, Xander would remember Buffy crying in the bathroom. I think he snapped when he couldn't take the Spike praise.

I think when Buffy learned about Xander spilling the beans, she was disappointed and not at all shocked. She expected Xander to tell, seeing as he hated Spike. I think it made Buffy distrust him further with her secrets.

Why do you think Buffy wanted Xander with Dawn both in "End of Days" and in "Chosen" (when, in "Chosen", better fighters were available)?

Because she trusted no one with Dawn but Xander, and because she didn't want them to get hurt.

Which do you consider the most Xander/Buffy-centric episodes in the series (regardless of whether you like them or not)?

Seeing Red. Seeing how serious Buffy wanted to patch things up with Xander, and Xander's confession that he was an ass when it came to Spuffy, the episode while filled with betrayal and heartbreak, a big part of it was about Buffy and Xander reconnecting.

I don't particularly love the Xander/Buffy ship (I guess you could say they aren't my one true pairing,) but I do like their relationship. I love how in the beginning of the series in S1, there is cute little love triangle -- Willow likes Xander, Xander likes Buffy, Buffy likes... okay, maybe not a love triangle, but you get what I mean. The status quo in the earlier episodes love-wise totally takes on a paradigm shift, hahah. I find it so hilarious how in the later seasons, one of the characters might mention Willow/Xander or Buffy/Xander in passing.

Anyway, Xander's cute with a crush on Buffy! I think that I prefer brotherly Xander or protective Xander, though, when it comes down to Xander/Buffy. His relationship with her seems to fade in the later seasons, but is still subtlety present within the other characters. Like mentioned above, Xander -- to help Buffy -- protects Dawn because he's one of the few she can confidentially trust in the job.

Now, before I answer the questions, I'd like to share what my favorite Buffy/Xander moment is.

For one, I think you all know that Xander doesn't have top slot as one of my favorite characters. There are just so many things he's done that I can't forgive him for. Yet, those comments are for another thread.

Despite the fact that I never really could warm to Xander, I love how much Buffy loves him and what he means to her. Spike was her best friend in Season 7, but in my opinion, Xander has always been the one. He's the one she relies on and has always trusted with her life. He was the one who saved her for the first time, and brought her back to life with his breath. He has stood by her side in good and in bad, and the importance of him in her life can't be stressed more.

That said, I don't oppose the Bander 'ship per say, (you all know I want her with Spike) but if they did get together I'd be fine with it, yet probably bored as I was when she was with Riley. I just want Buffy to be happy. *sigh* if that's even a possibility.

My favorite Bander scene late in Season 7 where they're in the kitchen together talking. Buffy has just asked Xander to leave and take Dawn with him so she won't be present for the final fight. Buffy calls Xander her strength and he calls her his 'hero.' It's a beautiful little scene that often gets overlooked.

This scene for me, really reminded the audience what, in the end, the show is really about. Heroes. People who dedicate their lives to the greater purpose, no matter the cost of the fight. Buffy inspires Xander to be a better person.

Second place goes to, as PrincessBuffy mentioned, their first scene in WTTH when he says, "Can I have you?" So cute. 😉

What did you think of Xander's decision to tell Dawn about Spike's attack on Buffy? Do you think this should have hurt their friendship/relationship?

Personally, I strongly didn't feel it was his business to tell Dawn. Buffy had made it clear she wanted the matter kept private. It was insensitive on Xander's part. Why was it necessary for Dawn to know, I ask? Buffy had always wanted to protect Dawn from these types of things. Xander should respect Buffy's privacy as well as her intentions regarding what sort of information Dawn is told.

Why do you think Buffy wanted Xander with Dawn both in "End of Days" and in "Chosen" (when, in "Chosen", better fighters were available)?

Because Buffy loves them both. They're her strength, the reason she keeps fighting. She couldn't bear to lose either of them, it would destroy her, as Spike pointed out back in Season 5. I also think that Buffy knows how much Xander cares for Dawn. I think Buffy felt that Dawn would be safe with him.

Which do you consider the most Xander/Buffy-centric episodes in the series (regardless of whether you like them or not)?

WTHH
Chosen
The Pack
Parts of The Zeppo
The Replacement
Helles Belles

1) What did you think of Xander's decision to tell Dawn about Spike's attack on Buffy? Do you think this should have hurt their friendship/relationship?

I'd like to think it's a slip of a tongue, like Xander's "Angel was here" in Pangs when he was told that Buffy wasn't supposed to know but he forgot or when he told Riley the mechanism of becoming Angelus. Didn't hurt their friendship then why would now?

2) Why do you think Buffy wanted Xander with Dawn both in "End of Days" and in "Chosen" (when, in "Chosen", better fighters were available)?

In End of Days clearly she wanted them both out of the fight, in Chosen the better fighters (Robin and Giles) were defending the so called primary target where the turok-han would attack (Robin was badly wounded there). So that lefts Xander better than Anya and Andrew.

3) Which do you consider the most Xander/Buffy-centric episodes in the series (regardless of whether you like them or not)?

The Prophecy Girl
Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered
Hells Bells
Him

I don't think he would have told Dawn if she didn't shove it down his throat that Spike would have done a better job saving them. With every praise Dawn was giving Spike, Xander would remember Buffy crying in the bathroom. I think he snapped when he couldn't take the Spike praise.
If so he reacted totally selfish with no consideration for Dawn's feelings (maybe also in retaliation for the Entropy events) only to make Dawn stop talking about Spike. But Xander is driven by his heart and emotions and I'm sure he didn't want to hurt her.

Put yourself in his place; a guy you don't like tries to rape your best friend, then her sister is talking non-stop about how awesome he is, I'll be pissed as well.

As you said, Xander is driven by his heart, he doesn't think, he acts upon his feelings. Dawn praising Spike after what he had done to Buffy made him upset, especially when he didn't like Spike to begin with.

He shouldn't have said anything, Buffy wanted that info to be kept a secret. But I understand why he wanted Dawn to shut up.

Joan, interesting that you mentioned parts of the Zeppo being about Buffy and Xander. I'm not sure what are these parts. Is it okay if you explain? 🙂

I think a lovely Xander and Buffy episode is I Was Made To Love You, it's filled with sweet moments between them.

I notice that some compare Buffy/Xander to Buffy/Riley, other then Xander and Riley being human, they're nothing alike. It's like calling Angel/Buffy and Spike/Buffy alike just because Angel and Spike are vampires.

Sorry for the double post, but wanted to share my favorite Buffy/Xander fics for the year 2009:

2009 has been such a good year for Buffy/Xander shippers and supporters, I'm thinking it's the influence of S8, it made many appreciate these two together. Personally it was S7 for me, but S8 made my love for them grow even more. So many fics and fanart were made for them, and it was so hard to choose only five fics of the collection I've got. But, then, here they are:

1- A Tall Ship by sam_arkand: The best Buffy/Xander fic I've read this year. The writing is so perfect, really good language and the very gradual development of Buffy and Xander's relationship makes me swoon, so gracefully moving foward. Even if you don't ship them together, you're going to enjoy this one. (It also deals with "Kick his ass" very well, this will probably get you interested, heh)

2- Following The Leader by m_mcgregor: God, how I love this fic, this works really well with Xander's development in S8; a Xander who knows his limits and is perfectly fine with following instead of leading. And we all know he doesn't mind at all following his favorite leader: Buffy.

3- Many Happy Returns by erimthar: Takes place after the TV series finale, a few months before the start of the Season 8 comics. This is Buffy's best birthday ever, thanks to Xander. Perfect voices of both Xander and Buffy.

4- Watcher Mine by peroxidepirate: Leaving Sunnydale, Buffy struggles to move on. Xander helps her deal. A fic between S7 and S8. My favorite types of fics, I really enjoy when writers try to fill in the blanks, and this fic shows how closer Buffy and Xander are getting.

5- Thanksgiving by softly_me: It doesn't really feel like Thanksgiving when you're in Scotland. I love fics set in S8, and the friendship between Xander and Buffy is the highlight of S8 for me. I love the way the author shows how close they had gotten, and I really enjoyed the past about missing Willow and not talking about her disappearance.

Awww, why am I just now seeing this thread??? AWESOME quotes and I love the graphics. This whole thing was an "AWWW"fest for me. LOL
I really really wish that Joss had let Xander and Buffy be a couple at least toward the end of the show. In the beginning, I don't think their relationship had the stability it needed to survive. But I always thought that especially in Season 6 and 7, Xander and Buffy should have been together. It makes a hell of a lot more sense than her being with Spike, that's for damn sure. But I know Joss and James are great buddies and he wanted to find a way to bring Spike back. I do really like Spike's character so I didn't mind that much, and I actually liked the way Spike and Buffy's relationship was in S7. But I love Xander and I always thought to myself "No one could be better for her than him."
