Amber Benson: It was lovely. We had an amazing cast and crew. Sarah is just fantastic. She's a lot of fun and was very welcoming.
-My own favourite episode was The Body - how hard was that episode to make?
Amber Benson: That's a wonderful episode. Watching Kristine Sutherland walking around the set and come to lunch in her dead make-up was really unsettling. The most emotional scene for me was doing the scene with Sarah in the hospital. She was sick at the time but still put in the most amazing performance. It is a beautiful episode.
-If Sarah didn't renew her contract, what would your advice be to the production staff? Would you continue with Dawn, or Faith, or would you cancel?
Amber Benson: I would ask the network people to give everyone else their own shows - they're all so wonderful But I think that Buffy is centred around Sarah and wouldn't be the same without her. Without her, it would lose a very valuable player.
-How hard was it to act your death scene with Alyson?
Amber Benson: It was awful. It was not fun. Sarah and I were both crying at the end. It was really terrible. A really close friend of all of us at work had just passed away and it brought all of that back.

In real life Michelle and Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy) have been together for quite a while, too. The two starred on the daytime soap "All My Children" together.
When Michelle started on "Buffy", "It wasn't like 'Oh, hi nice to meet you', it was like 'Hey, how are you?' We've kept in touch," says Michelle. "... She's also very wise and very smart, and I go to her a lot for advice. Sometimes when we're doing an emotional scene, the silliest thing [will happen], like a piece of my hair will fall forward 'cause I've leaned forward. Usually we'll have to stop the take, move the hair, and start from the beginning [but] she'll, like, quickly reach out, brush the hair from my face, and we'll keep on going. We won't stop.
"It's really fun when I have a scene with Sarah. Especially an emotional scene, as sad as they are. We had one on Wednesday, and it wasn't a very long scene but it was a very sweet and sentimental scene. We really connected with each other, and we were able to give back to the cameras. It's almost easy to go off script and say what we think our characters are feeling -- but of course we say what's written -- but that's how in tune Sarah is to Buffy, and I think I'm getting there more and more with Dawn."
When Michelle's pal Sarah Michelle Gellar (can you believe that even before she was on Buffy she had cool friends like SMG?!) invited her on the set, she jumped at the chance because she had been a mega-fan of the show since it began.
I've worked with Sarah before [on All My children] so I knew how wonderful she is - it's a close family and I was welcomed with open arms, it was really comforting. Sarah is such a wonderful person and she totally thought that I would be able to do great things with Dawn, so she definitely played a role in the support system, and it just all went from there. Sarah and I have worked to create that sisterly comfort that sisters have, they know what the other one is going to do, they can almost see their next move."

Shortly after visiting her old friend Sarah Michelle Gellar on the set (they have been pals since their All My Children days), the 15-year old Trachtenberg was asked back--to audition for a role on the series. Gellar, who was raised by her mother after her parents divorced in 1984, loves to play Mom to her castmates. James Marsters recalls that during his first season playing Buffy's nemesis Spike, he wasn't given a director's chair by the show's producers. "I had to sit in the corner in the dust. It didn't feel so good," says Marsters. Gellar came to the rescue. "She told producers, 'Look, I'll buy it myself, but James has been with us long enough and he deserves a chair,' " addds Marsters. And when Trachtenberg got a case of laryngitis last season, Gellar was ready with tea, honey--even a space heater. "Sarah is very protective," says Trachtenberg.
What's it like on the set of Buffy?
It's really fun! Whenever you walk on a set, especially one that's established, you have some worries. I've worked with Sarah [Michelle Gellar] before so I knew how wonderful she is - it's a close family and I was welcomed with open arms. It was really comforting.
You're the youngest one on the set, do you find that everyone wants to look out for you?
Yeah, they're all like my family! I have a big sister of my own, but Sarah is like my big sister on the set. I've known her for seven years, since we worked on All My Children together, and Sarah's such a great girl. She always makes sure I do all my homework!

It's great! We're having so much fun. I hate giving them the publicity, but there was a B.S. story in The Star. They said that I didn't do the last episode of Buffy because I hate the show and I didn't want to spend a day with Sarah. They also said I only showed up at the Wrap party because I knew she wasn't going to be there. Sarah and I have known each other since we were eight years old, I have nothing but love and respect for her. So, yes, it's exciting to work with her again. We were even joking around that we need to do something serious together, where we can play off each other. She's so talented. It's nice when you work with people that you just know. There's no questions, no hesitation. There's nothing but trust there because I know you're gonna work as hard as I'm going to. You're gonna give me all you've got. That's really comforting.>

Question: Who's your favorite cast member of either/both shows to work with, and why James Marsters: Sarah Gellar. I love it when she kicks my butt.
He's also looking forward to working once again with Sarah Michelle Gellar. "She is so cool. She's the best. On the set if you don't have a director's chair with your name on it you end up sitting on the floor and being in everyone's way, which just causes more stress. Neither Juliet nor I had chairs. "Sarah finally went up to the producers and said, 'Look, these guys have done seven episodes so far, they are going to be in it until the end of the season, can we get them some chairs? I'll pay for them.' I thought that was so classy. She's very intelligent, very strong, very articulate. Basically, she makes 22 one-hour movies a year and she always knows her lines. She's in almost every shot. I can't say enough about her. I like her a lot as a person and as a co-worker. To some people she has a bit of a boundary because she's a big star and people will take from her as much as she's willing to give, so she protects herself because she needs to."
From lis237: How was it kissing Sarah Michelle Gellar?
James Marsters: It was very good. It was easy to go to work that day. Sarah is a great friend, and it was certainly more comfortable than kissing someone you meet two minutes before the scene. My girlfriend is sitting next to me right now, though, so I'm watching my words very carefully.
Question: What is it lke to work with Sarah?
Marsters TV: It's an absolute dream. I'm so glad you asked me this question. One of the reasons my job is so good is she sets the perfect example on set. She's always on time, she knows her lines, she's always plesant. There are a lot of shows where the leads are not so pleasant. I adore her. Plus she can cry at the drop of a hat which amazes me. She can memorize her lines with photographic memory. My only problem is she can talk to me about a movie, 2 1/2 seconds before a scene and she can flip over like that, but I have trouble.
SpikeLover: So what is it like working with Sarah Michelle Geller?
James: Brilliant. Seriously brilliant. She's gracious and kind and consummately professional, which means no one else can screw off, and we all have a fun time WORKING. But working is playing, and it's a damn good playpen they got going over there. I adore Sarah. She's always been more than kind to me, especially when I was new on the set.
"David [Boreanaz] and Sarah [Michelle Gellar] are not ego-driven as actors," he defines. "They care about the work. They don't like to screw around; they like to have fun working, which is what I like.
He's also Sarah Michelle Gellar's biggest fan and is obviously pleased when told that the woman who plays Buffy has kind words for him as well."Sarah is so good. She's surprisingly good. You don't think so, because she's real pretty," Marsters said. "The two things I like about Sarah are her acting and also the way she uses her power on the set. She uses her power to make sure everybody is working and not screwing around. She's always on time. She always knows her lines better than anybody else. She never misses work. She is always there for your off-camera stuff. She is a pro down to her last fiber. She had been mistreated before she was on 'Buffy.' She has had jobs where, maybe, the lead actor was not so nice to her. I'm not going to name names, but we all know what we're talking about."
"The leads in both cases are really good people," Marsters notes. "Both David [Boreanaz] and Sarah [Michelle Gellar] are hard workers and have a lot of fun shooting. They are not ego-driven, which makes for a very good working environment. Everyone involved is hired with the knowledge that the way you work within a group is as important as anything else you do. Sarah, in particular, is very much aware that she carries the show, but she is also smart enough to know that what's good for the show is good for her. She very much wants everyone to do well. She's not one of those people who says, 'Don't give him a scene - he's too good.' She's always saying, 'He's really good, get him in there.'"
The hardest thing for me was lip-synching. I was not that bad, but it just meant extra takes. Some people were good at lip-synching and some people weren't. I was medium. Sarah, of course, was perfect. She's perfect at everything. She buried everybody. God, it makes me crazy." Sarah. She had to whip out dance moves at the end, she had a lot of songs. I think she was incredibly brave. You guys don't know her like I do "“ she has a big work ethic but at the same time she likes control and she had to give up a lot of control to do that.>

Did you have any professional history with any of the cast and crew prior to working on Buffy?
Actually, Sarah and I both tested for the role of Kendall Hart in All My Children. It was a long time ago, but we tested together. She went first, and I was fourth; there were six of us there. When I went to work on the pilot, I told her we had tested together. I reminded her that I had short hair then, then she remembered me. Then she went back and watched the audition tape... I was really embarrassed to find that out because it was a long time ago. She was very sweet. I remember watching her test and knowing right away she was going to get it. She is really amazing: her work ethic, being as young as she is and working as hard as she does. It is really an admirable thing. I admire her. >

MaNDi asks: What is it like working with the Buffy cast members, especially Sarah Michelle Gellar? I love them. I know it sounds cliché but everyone treats me great - especially Sarah. She's really intelligent and professional, but she can be really goofy at times too - She's a lot of fun. They are all really great. >

She's like, "Don't you think you're going to need to do this from this angle, because it's not going to work with blah-blah-blah?" And the director's like, "Yeah, you're right.">

"It was a great experience," he grins. "Coming in as a guest star, everyone on set was open and welcoming. I played a character who had this jacket that was under a magic spell, and because of that, I became a love interest for all the girls. Everyone became infatuated with me, so that was pretty fun. Sarah Michelle is fabulous. She, more than anybody, can appreciate what it's like to come from soaps, so she was great to work with. We also have mutual friends, so that made it really easy. And Michelle Trachtenberg was a total joy."

Were you suprised that Buffy was brought to an end?
David: I wasn't surprised. I kind of saw it coming. The time was right. I'm sure that Sarah [Michelle Gellar] came to a very peaceful feeling inside that, "Yeah, this is the time." Of course everyone is going to bash her because they've got nothing better to do. She's going through a very strange period with that, but she's a strong girl and a really good actress, and I'm sure she'll get through it. It's a transition time for her, but she'll be fine.
You ended up guesting in the last two eps of Buffy. What was that like and why did you decide to do it?
David: It's something that, for me, was really for the story and for Sarah. Buffy is how it all started for me. I'd do anything for Sarah. Doing the show is how I got my start, as far as the character was concerned. In terms of the story, getting the two characters back together was important for the fans. They were waiting for it. I think there was another story to be told. Hopefully, Buffy will come and see Angel next season on our show. You never know where these things will lead. It would be nice to have her on Angel, so I'm just putting that idea out there.

Sarah is awesome! She knows when we're going to have a fight, and when she's talking to the wardrobe department, she'll plan for that. Sarah tries to make it extremely comfortable for us. We really appreciate that, because sometimes we might need long sleeves or clothes that are easier to hide the pads in. She's very conscientious and very caring when it comes to that.
I love working with Sarah. She's done a tone for me and I have so much gratitude towards her. And Buffy has become like a family to me. I'm loving every minute.
