Buffy's 20th anniversary in 2017

If you could choose how the cast would celebrate Buffy's 20th anniversary next year, what would it be and why?

The likelihood is that we won't see another season, I think SMG is too busy for that, but I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility to get maybe a one-off special, showing Buffy, Willow, Xander, Giles etc 20 years on (perhaps ignoring the comics? I'm not sure what's currently going on there?) with Joss at the helm.

Ok, so maybe you'd struggle to show Angel & Spike, unless a reason can be given for them naturally ageing or CGI can be used to make them look younger. But I'd be really interested to see Buffy, late 30s, still fighting the good fight whilst being a wife and mother, for example. What would everyone else be up to? Would they all still be around each other or would they have gone their separate ways?

Surely the PTB (aka the TV execs) talking about it already? I wonder what they're discussing. Oh to be a fly on the wall.... 😉
 
I would have them to a funny parody bit on some show, like the Saved by the Bell cast and Back to the Future cast did. (SBTB on Fallon and BttF on Kimmel I think)

Then their ages wouldn't matter, it wouldn't have to be a big deal scheduling wise because it wouldn't take up that much time and I think it would be a good laugh for cast and fans alike.

Screw that. Tooker!! I expected more from you. I would want a reunion. I would want them to reboot it (for a season) when they are all still in high school. Wet Hot Sunnydale Summer.
 
I'd like to see some sort of reunion but I don't think it would be on tv, unless it's something silly like @Taake mentioned. I don't think Buffy has much respect amongst tv execs. Maybe a Netflix special.

I'm not so sure if SMG would want to acknowledge it. She used to be awfy prickly over the subject of Buffy at times, though over the last few years she's warmed to it again.

I think she would. I think she has, as you said, warmed to it again. 🙂 I don't she would've right after the show ended, but for something easy (basically not a reboot) I think she would sign up now. Not so sure about her Angel however.

She wrote about the last anniversary on Instagram (and probably Twitter as well)
 
The cast don't seem all that close to me, so maybe a documentary about the show, that they can all be a part of, but not necessarily on it together.
 
DVD Episode commentery's from the main cast members.

Get SMG, Nick Bredon, Alyson. Tony Head and everyone else to comment on all their favourite/important episodes from S1-7 (and Angel obviously), give brand new cast interviews and then re-release the box sets- a lot of people complain that the cast didn't really contribute to the DVD special features, in contrast to something like Firefly.

Like the commentary idea!
A Twitter event, where fans and those from the cast who wants to watches for example "Welcome to the Hellmouth" and "Chosen" back-to-back while at a given time. I'd love to read the reactions to the episodes now from both actors and others on the team.

That would be great. It give people a chance to learn more about the series . Plus you would get people buying them all over again . Lastly you could have them doing something like showing their aductions for the show & then having them doing it again now 😀
 
Lots of interesting ideas. I'd be happy with any of them.
They could also all be brought together by some life event that leads to an organic reunion, death, birth, wedding, or apocalyse and we get two hours to see what happens.

I haven't read the comics, but for the reunion or whatever of the show I think they should probably not bring too much of the comics into it because most people won't have read them and even the one's that have, the comics aren't anything like 20 yrs later.

There could be a show that catches up on the actors themselves, what they've done professionally, and then asking them what they liked or didn't like about playing their character, what was particularly challenging, and what THEY think would be going on in their characters life 20 yrs later...well 13 yrs later.

Or how about it the cast does some sort of SNL style show, so they can share some of their talents and interests, as well as doing some Buffy skits. James and Tony could do a musical thing. Sarah a spoof cooking show...

Other than the part where they talk about where their character would be after all those years, they could take part in the rest of it. If they did the SNL style thing it wouldn't have to matter because their skits could either reference the times before they were killed, or make some sort of joke about how people (and vampires) don't necessarily stay dead.

For other reunion ideas, like a mini movie or something, that would be way tougher, unless Anya somehow was resurrected in the land of Rashmahar, and in stead of Tara's image speaking under control of the first and being evil, she could be a ghost brought back by The Second to be good.

The Second ? I would have thought it would be called The First Good .😉
